23.01.2022 Epilepsy can have a serious impact on social inclusion, psychological wellbeing, education and employment prospects, but did you know it has an economic impact ...too? The Economic Burden of Epilepsy Report calculates the cost in Australia at $12.3 billionand thats just for this financial year. Reduced workforce participation, healthcare costs and absenteeism all affect people living with epilepsy, and they affect the economy too. Intervention at each life stage can help reduce this impact and make lives better for people living with epilepsy. Help us ensure no one with epilepsy has to go it alone. It is als...o used today as an insect repellent. 11.01.2022 Breaking news out of the NDIS this afternoon ... You will remember back in June Disability Ministers from all around the country finally agreed which health sup...ports could be included in an NDIS plan. These changes are due to be introduced on October 1. Today the NDIA released more information about what is included and how the changes will work. People will be able to purchase some health related supports and equipment if: the person is eligible for the NDIS and has an NDIS plan and the need for the supports "relates to their functional impairment, is ongoing and is best provided by the NDIS". (Yep we know - that is a mouthful) The NDIS website has information broken down for: participants providers the health sector You can find the information here - https://www.ndis.gov.au//disability-related-health-supports There is an easy read (with no pictures?) here - https://www.ndis.gov.au//disability-related-health-support These changes have meant the price guide has also been updated. You can find the new guide here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/provid/price-guides-and-information We are still working our way through the material - and will bring you more shortly. In the meantime if you spot anything drop us a line and let us know. We know people have been waiting for these changes for a LONG time so it is great to see we are one step closer ... #NDISMakeItWork (Image description: A red rectangle with the words "Breaking News" in white capital letters)

10.01.2022 This is a powerful story about compassion and taking the time to help someone in need. Writer Erynn Brook was riding the subway when she was approached by an ...18-year-old girl living with epilepsy who was about to have a seizure. She then tweeted the experience to raise awareness of how basic humanity and kindness to each other can make a world of difference. In this article, Erynn gives the following advice: Listen to people and take a basic first aid course if you can. Follow more diverse voices on social media, and if you can, get involved at a local level and work your way up. This month is #SeizureSmartSeptember here at Epilepsy Queensland. We would like at least one person from every household to know seizure first aid. For more information, you can visit here: http://bit.ly/EQISeizureFirstAid
