22.01.2022 Dulcero this afternoon having some targeted strength training using the Equiband and walking over poles. The Equiband system has been designed following extensive research into core stability training in the horse by Equicore Concepts. Unlike traditional training systems, many of which have attachments onto the bridle and encourage the horse's head to come down with pressure, the Equiband system stimulates activation of the abdominal and hindquarter muscles. A recent study in... the use of the Equiband system suggests that it has a positive effect on dynamic stabilisation of the spine. While the Equiband is a amazing tool for Rehabilitation and for activation of abdominal and hindquarters it should be with the support of a trained therapist. Using the Equiband along with Pole work exercises can; * Increase the horses strength and flexibility. * Improve the horses ability to engage the hindquarters. * Develops core muscles and stability. * Helpful in rehabilitation from injury or strengthening targeted muscle groups. * Improved proprioception. * The benefits of working horses over poles without a rider are that it allows the horse to move more through his back and core. * Walk is the most effective pace to perform polework in as there is no moment of suspension, so all movement is performed through muscular effort.

21.01.2022 The fundamental reason that we shoe our horses is to improve their wellbeing and usefulness. Each hoof is in a continuous state of change through deformation, ...growth and wear, and to counteract these actions, we can upon the skill of farrier to redress the hoof’s balance with the aim of creating a conditional equilibrium. - FARRIERY: The whole horse concept (David Gill) See more

19.01.2022 High Low hoof conformation and it’s knock on effect. Recently I posted about how high-low hooves affected the symmetry of the shoulders and it was questioned w...hether the high or low side would have a larger shoulder. So I did a small cohort case study. Here we have 5 horses with high-low hooves and there shoulders are asymmetrical to varying degrees, but as a rule the low foot produces the fuller shoulder. I also noticed some curvature to the spine and will look into this further. This conformation has implications on saddle fit as is obviously evident as well as biomechanical implications throughout the entire musculoskeletal system and whole body kinetic chains. Dr Ridgeway has produced studies and articles on this subject and some have been referenced in my following articles which go into more depth on the considerations. . https://www.theequinedocumentalist.com//high-low-hoof-conf . https://www.theequinedocumentalist.com//the-hoof-the-begin
