24.01.2022 Exploring our letters with the use of playdough and letter moulds with rollers and cutters on hand also. incorporating letters and intentional teaching into our everyday play #makelearningfun #learnthroughplay #playdoughfun
24.01.2022 We have been reading some stories to share with our children of Natural Beginnings whom havnt not been able to attend of late... I thought I might share a couple on our public page for those whom may be interested. (Please ignore the messy hair, isolating with 3 children, whilst home schooling, studying my bachelor at university distance and working from home for my other job) I am going crazy one day at a time
22.01.2022 Explore foods and drinks that make happy or sad teeth. Using a mix of clipart images and real life catalogues allows children to make recognisable connections between the items they seen in shops, lunchboxes and home with the clipart images we teach and see in a play scenario. Teachable moments and connections between reality and play make life skills that are genuine for the children
21.01.2022 Our outside art board is defintly a hit with the children this week... The children are constantly going back and forth from the painting as a an open ended experience using the brushes provided, hands and body parts and also sticks, flowers and plants they find in the yard.
21.01.2022 Looking around my empty daycare, no children playing, no laughter going through and no one coming or going. Missing my children but hoping they are all staying safe and can't wait to see them again when this is all over.
20.01.2022 Storyline with the library without leaving the confines of your own home... love this initiative everyone is taking to provide services for parents and carers to access https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=TtbFC4HBWDw
19.01.2022 Exploring light and heavy with the scales #naturalbeginningsfdc #learningthroughplay
19.01.2022 A wonderful play at the school to finish off the school day
19.01.2022 Enjoying this beautiful weather with some outdoor painting. A great way to kick start our spring adventures at Natural Beginnings... through outdoor painting on a large scale we learn to use our larger arm movements with a slow steady hand eye coordination. This painting on a vertical surface also helps our minds and bodies work through cross coordination and getting both sides of our brain working at the same time. ... #naturalbeginningsfdc #paintingfun #learnthroughplay
18.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all our special people in our lives... Mum's and those in the role of mum
16.01.2022 We are doing the woolworths earn and learn promotion again this year.... it is due to start at the begonning of May 2019. I am putting a call out to ask all friends and family to help us collect. Last year we reached 2090 and this yesr we have a goal of 2500. We would love to upgrade some new indoor and outdoor resources for the children.
16.01.2022 A warm overcast day calls for water painting... quite literally painting the fences, the house, the cubbyhouse and even the slide with good old water Activities do not need costly resources and hours of set up. It needs initiative and knowledge of your children's interests. These guys love large body experiences outside where they can engage and just keep going in their own space so a few buckets, formula tins and brushes makes for a fun afternoon.
16.01.2022 Scissor cutting at natural beginnings fdc today. Although it may not produce the most picture perfect teacher replicated artform that you wish to proudly display on your fridge, but the during this time of practise, conversation and socialisation the children are also gaining benefits such as: Independent movements of each finger... Strengthens hand muscles Bilateral coordination skills (two-handed coordination) Visual motor skills (eye-hand coordination) Visual perceptual tasks (directionality) Fine motor skills (separation of hand, finger dexterity) Promotes grasp pattern Focus and attention Cutting gives young children independent movements of each finger. Cutting with scissors works on the separation of two sides of the hand and strengthens hand muscles. Bilateral coordination is also addressed when they have to hold the scissors in one hand and paper in the other. Often, you will see kids with their elbow all the way out to the side and the scissors upside down when they are cutting. An easy fix for this is to have them hold a piece of paper or a manilla folder between their arm and side to help them to stabilize their arm and bring their shoulder down. Then, they can hold the scissors correctly. The other thing I do is draw eyeballs on the scissors to cue them to the right position. Cutting on a line and switching directions are great visual motor activities. The positioning of the scissors in a child's hand also starts to work on the tripod grasp. It is important to educate your administrators as to why scissors are so important in kindergarten and preschool as it is a precursor for handwriting. Cutting, along with coloring, also help with focus and attention. If I have a child that does not want to write, I let them do some coloring and cutting activities, and they are able to calm themselves. #naturalbeginningsfdc #scissorskills #learningthroughplay List of benefits copied and extracted from https://www.continued.com//what-benefits-cutting-with-scis
15.01.2022 Cars are an invaluable resource in my service.. They can be so much more than just driving cars seen here yestersay they were lined up along the roads to make patterns. They can be used for counting, colour recognition, pattern making, gravity when sided with ramps and tracks, mechanical awareness, road safety introduction, introduction of road signs and rules and much more. #naturalbeginningsfdc #learningthroughplay #matchboxcarsforlife

10.01.2022 Some new artwork which is still a work in progress for Natural Beginnings FDC...
10.01.2022 School children all had peices of artwork displayed in the assembly art gallery. During one afternoon pick up they eagerly took me to the hallway to show me their art work. Children take pride in their work and the pride they ask to share with me reflect the relationships we form and their relationship with themselves
10.01.2022 So much to explore and discuss with just one photo... Collecting, mixing, pouring, measurements, imagination, Are they a chef making some food, are they a scientist mixing in a lab, are they a witch making a potion or are they just children exploring their natural elements? ... So many questions, and so many quality conversations to engage in. #naturalbeginningsfdc #outdoorplay #learningthroughplay

08.01.2022 As well as the introduction to new procedures i have also completed the COVID19 training and refreshed the basics hand washing techniques with all children. A basic summary of the new procedures are below. No unnecessary visitors to enter the home or FDC environment ... Everyone whom enters will sanitise their hands parents/carers ect (children whom are staying will procedure straight to the bathroom to wash hands and then sanitise) Parents whom are dropping off and picking up will remain outside the environment and only entering the front door non regirestered area Those whom live in the house are only entering and leaving when absolutely necessary to reduce the risks towards the home and FDC environment.

03.01.2022 I am sure we all feel this sometimes
02.01.2022 During the last 2 weeks there has been alot of uncertainty for children. During care we have taken those times to introduce a little bit of schooling into our daily routines and make the transition from.cho to home a smooth one. We have done a little worksheet style learning but lots of games and learning through play. ... Counting and money games, dice games, memory and problem solving and then arts and craft to keep the fun going. So much of our learning can be done through play and its a great way to transition from school to home without adding additional and unnecessary stress to children and parents.
02.01.2022 Its a cars kind of day... H. built a leg car and then decided to balance some small blocks on the car and try to balance whilst driving. I decided to add a road inspiration on the floor with tape for the children to drive a course whilst balancing the blocks. This has been a great experience to slow the children down to go slow, concentrate, think about the position of the blocks and placement of stacking them and also how fast to drive. It also began to dictate the route they took as they avoided corners as corners made them crash their blocks. This was a spontaneous experience with educator extended on childrens play
