Repost from @perfectingredient - Having spent today on the east side of KI today, driving from Island beach, Kingscote, Emu bay, Cygnet River we have visited quite a few businesses like the Emu Bay lavender farm and KI Spirits. The vibe here is amazing, united, given the current fires, not to mention appreciative of tourists supporting their businesses! . . Lou and I @perfectingredient would like to call on anyone who would like to donate their time next week to make read...y-made-meals from our kitchen for those affected by the fires and CFS crew. . . Having spoken to KI contacts, I have organised with local Tiff Turner, to deliver from our warehouse in WELLAND along with any other donations people wish to contribute. Eg. Clothing, blankets, food, water, shoes, toiletries that you wish to donate to those who have lost in the fires. Ive been told there are circa 200 displaced households. . . I have contacts for anyone wishing to contribute to the wildlife community support group on KI as well. . . Starting from Monday 13th January we will be cooking in our kitchen at 16-20 Hindmarsh Ave, WELLAND. If you have time, feel free to help and/or donate if you can. . . Join us on the Australia Day long weekend for a dinner with all proceeds going to the St Vincent de Paul Society and SAVEM. The St Vincent de Paul Society passes 100% of donations directly to affected locals and SAVEM is an organisation who assists affected animals on Kangaroo Island, not an easy task to offer medical support to thousands of koalas, wallabies, birds and of course sheep. We will also be auctioning products and packages from affected businesses so that you can have the ability to directly help individual businesses get back up and running. With the support of local producers and the team here at Maxwell we want to give back to the island that has given us so much.The vineyard that has provided us our Kangaroo Island Shiraz has been destroyed. Our connection to the island runs deeper from relationships with mead producers, restaurant owners and to some of our staff who previously worked at Southern Ocean Lodge. Our aim is to help all areas of the island. From the people to the animals. Help us reach our $15,000 goal.
