24.01.2022 It's no secret that we love McLaren Vale - its extraordinary landscape, people and wines - and it's wonderful to see it through the eyes of our visitors. Check out the great article below from Sarah Ahmed (aka The Wine Detective) who recently spent some time here for the McLaren Vale Wine Show, and took the time to join us for lunch - Samuel's Gorge style. And a huge congratulations to Richard and Malcolm at Hither & Yon on being crowned 2019 Bushing monarchs for their 2018 Nero D'Avola. A cracking wine!

21.01.2022 Well, isnt that a treat? McLaren Vale gets a gong in Vogue Australia as one of the Aussie towns to visit that rivals Byron Bay...check it out! Along with a seriously awesome photo of our little barn on the hill by our mate, Anthony Anderson

20.01.2022 EPISODE 3: SG 2018 MOURVÈDRE **Jesss breathy back garden review** This variety may not be as immediately recognisable in its individual state as others, but our Mourvèdre stands confidently amongst the Samuels Gorge range.... Medium-bodied and complex, it commands attention. Its fresh and elegant; the scent of blackberries, wild violets and plum is ambrosial. Coiled with notes of smoky spice and Szechuan pepper that are typical of this variety, it exudes both power and finesse. A gentle guiding hand in the winery gives rise to a truly beautiful wine. The 2018 Mourvèdre is a delicate balance of the ethereal and earthly. A wine to be both savoured and shared. Serve alongside slow-braised lamb neck with labneh and pomegranate or take inspiration from renowned chef Lennox Hastie of Firedoor and pair with NT barramundi cooked over coals, black bean and karkalla. 14.5% Alcohol 20% Whole bunch fermentation 15 months in old French oak, 5% new Time in Tomb: 10+ years #mourvedre #monastrell #mataro #mclarenvale #2018 #samuelsgorge Just 2 days left to win a 3L Jeroboam of Samuels Gorge 2018 Shiraz (RRP $400)! 19.01.2022 Woot! Come in and try over the weekend ;)
17.01.2022 THE 2017 RESERVES HAVE ARRIVED.
17.01.2022 EPISODE 2: SG 2019 TEMPRANILLO **Mikeys back yard review** A dry year meant the estates rocky, windswept vineyard, sitting atop an escarpment of shattered shale and limestone, provided wine of great concentration with fine yet prominent tannins.... The 2019 vintage initially appears savoury before charming aromas of plump black cherries and caraway fill the nostrils, luring you in with roasted coffee beans and Liquorice Allsorts. This Tempranillo sits wide across the palate with vivid acidity balancing delicately on the soft, dark tar-like fennel characters and long white peppery finish. This wine has age written all over it. If you have the patience and the space, load up and let this baby sit for years to come. You will most certainly reap the benefits over time. Wondering what to serve with this beast? Try braised rabbit pithivier with butternut pumpkin, charred leek and grilled mushrooms. Magnifique! 13.5% Alcohol 10 months in old French oak, 5% new Time in Tomb: 12+ years #tempranillo #mclarenvale #primarily #estategrown #2019 #samuelsgorge #moustacheboy Just 3 days left to win a 3L Jeroboam of Samuels Gorge 2018 Shiraz (RRP $400)! 16.01.2022 AUTUMN WINDFALL Purchase 5 wines from our current range and we'll send you a 6th bottle of 2018 Shiraz Autumn is a time of vivid change in the landscape. Leaves turn to shades of yellow, burnt orange and red; reminiscent of the smouldering fires lit to ward off the chill in the air. Tree boughs are heavy under the weight of their bounty, so the wind sends fruit tumbling to the ground. It is a time to gather and share.... We're going to send you a bottle of 2018 Samuel's Gorge Shiraz with every 5 bottles you purchase from our current range, and we'll ship it anywhere in Australia at no extra charge. Something to toast the changing seasons; to accompany the cooler nights and mild days that this time of the year brings. From us to you https://www.gorge.com.au/Wines/Our-range

16.01.2022 Be like Susi and grab yourself a copy of the latest issue of Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine, flick to page 24 and absorb some beautifully words from the talented Katie Spain. Perfectly paired with some brilliant images captured by some of our photographer friends Anthony Anderson, Ben MacMahon and Andy Nowell.
14.01.2022 In case you missed it... we just released our 2019 Capisce Carignan, and for the very first time its available by the half dozen for $110. Click to view products, to get yours before it sells out! ------------ CARIGNANs origins lie in the picturesque, sun-drenched Priorat region of north-eastern Spain. Here in McLaren Vale the late ripening Carignan is well and truly at home under our blue sky. It was really only a matter of time before it found its way back to the little ...old barn on the hill. Floral and lifted, the aroma of ripe bramble fruit rises with caraway, cinnamon and dried herbs. The wine delivers with juicy blackberries bursting in unison with bright acid and crunchy tannins followed by pepper and allspice. The wine finishes curiously savoury after the initial flurry of fruit, deserving of a food pairing from its Spanish roots: tortilla de patatas by Chef Brad Sappas at Comida Hahndorf - a potato and onion omelette, rumoured to have been originally created by a poor farm wife, to feed an unannounced guest. ------------ Order yours online before it's all gone! Or if youd prefer to taste through the range, why not drop in between 11am & 5pm? But you'd better make it quick... Were back open 7 days a week. Bookings encouraged. To secure your tasting experience, please visit us at: https://www.gorge.com.au/Cellar-Door/Tasting-Reservations

06.01.2022 Grenache has been the heartbeat of Samuels Gorge since the winerys inception in 2003. It began as Justins passion project, yet evolved into an integral part of who we are at Samuel's Gorge. Now, 17 years on, Grenache is welcomed and respected as a single varietal wine. Gone are the days of heavy-handed tannin and excessive oak of the 1990s; making room for lighter, fruit forward styles. They are both a staple on our dinner tables and wines that stand the test of time. The 2...018 Samuels Gorge Grenache will be included in a stellar lineup of South Australian wines, hosted by esteemed wine writer, Huon Hooke, in The Real Review LIVE: Grenache & Blends. This free event will take you through a range of Grenache and Rhone-style blends while sharing stories and insights about the wineries. If you would like to use "learning" as an excuse for cracking open a bottle of our 2018 Grenache, please tune in, pour a glass and taste along! 02.01.2022 EPISODE 4: SG 2018 SHIRAZ **Izzys alfresco review** Shiraz is endlessly fascinating; there are many interpretations of this great grape from region to region, producer to producer. The endless blue skies, bright, white light and ancient soils of McLaren Vale provide us with the ideal platform to create this harmoniously complete wine.... The aromatics have what is now a trademark Samuels Gorge spectrum at its core. While black bramble fruits immediately engage you; it is essentially savoury, with hints of black pepper, worn leather and dried sage that weave their way through the olfactory like the curling tendrils of the wild sweet pea that adorns the winery garden in the cooler months. Detailed flavours mirror the aromatics, giving rise to plump dark fruit and baking spice. The mid-palate weight is beautiful, and the tannin is fine and mouth-filling. Layers of texture, freshness and intrigue - beautifully stitched together into a silky cloak of flavour. Enjoy with kangaroo fillet or oxtail ragu, broad beans and heirloom carrots with caraway. 14.5% Alcohol 15% Carbonic maceration 18 months in old French oak, 20% new Time in Tomb: 12+ years #shiraz #mclarenvale #2018 #samuelsgorge Just 1 day left to win a 3L Jeroboam of this wonderful wine: the 2018 Samuels Gorge Shiraz (RRP $400)! 01.01.2022 EPISODE 1: SG 2018 GRENACHE Susis at home review** The primary portion of our Grenache hails from the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs within the heart of McLaren Vale; where gnarly old bush vines yield tight bunches of small berries with calm power, concentration and complexity.... The 2018 vintage is elegant yet serious. Its bright, red berry vibrancy and wafts of jasmine on a warm summers evening lure you in with implied playfulness only to surprise you with something somehow dark and broody. Take a sip and youll soon discover despite its elegance this wine is no wallflower; blueberries, cola and sweet spices immediately evolve and dance on the palate, as if theyre popping in a hot pan. Fine, silky tannins fan out, filling the mouth before finishing with a balanced fresh acidity. This wine lingers, leaving you eager for the next sip. Enjoy with a wild mushroom risotto, or freshly caught Garfish wrapped in vine leaf and brik pastry. 14.5% Alcohol 15% Carbonic Maceration 12 months in old French oak Time in Tomb:12+ years #samuelsgorge #supportlocalmv Just 4 days left to win a 3L Jeroboam of Samuels Gorge 2018 Shiraz (RRP $400)!
