24.01.2022 Something about our Point Danger you didn't already know Amazing views are to be seen at the headland of Point Danger, which sits between Coolangatta and Tweed Heads, marking the border between Queensland and New South Wales. The views span from both ways along the coast, and you can use it as a starting point or picnic end to several coastal walks. The brutalist concrete tower that marks the spot (and the cardinal directions) is, despite its sculptural aspirations, a work...ing lighthouse. Once a laser, it's now a tried-and-true electric beacon. Captain James Cook, upon encountering the eastern Australian coast and naming Rame Head (Victoria), then sailed up the coast to the famous Botany Bay. Continuing North from there, at about 5 pm on 16 May 1770 he encountered the reefs that run 3 nautical miles east from Fingal Head and Cook Island. To avoid these reefs, formed by a lava flow from Mount Warning, Cook was forced to change his course to the east. Cook's log indicates his ship was "about 5 miles from the land". However having to pull away to the east to avoid the reefs, that we now know only run 3 nautical miles to sea from Cook Island, would indicate Cook was much closer to the point he named Point Danger. The next morning,"James Cook, although much further out to sea, recorded the location of the reefs and named the point off which the island and reefs lie - Point Danger. He wrote: "We now saw the breakers again they lay two Leagues from a point under which is a small Island, their situation may always be found by the peaked mountain before mentioned from them this mountain or hill, and on this account I have named Mount Warning it lies 7 or 8 Leagues inland the land is high and hilly about it, but it is conspicuous enough to be distinguished from everything else. The point off which these shoals lay I have named Point Danger."

20.01.2022 What a place we live! A mumma whale, her calf, a pod of dolphins plus beautiful Mount Warning in the backdrop... WOW Tweed Coast Scoop

17.01.2022 Hiking Mount Warning Everything you need to know Mount Warning is the highest peak in the Northern NSW region. The hike is best described as strenuous, but worth it for the view. I have hiked Mount Warning a few times now and it never disappoints. The Trail to Mount Warning... 9km round trip 2-5 hours return The trail starts from the top of the car park, kicking straight into a steep series of stairs. As you pass the stairs, the trail levels out to a consistent incline of long switchbacks. A canopy of dense ancient trees and greenery covers the first section of the trail. It is hard to stop looking up, but necessary as the path can be uneven, so watch your step! The trail is a total of 4.5 km, the first 4km being stairs and switchbacks, followed by a final rock climb to the summit. The rock climb is steep, so if you are afraid of height I would choose another hike, such as the Minyon Falls Trail. For the adventurers, you will love it. There is a chain to use to assist you with the climb (photo below). My friend and I went without and scaled the rocks with our hands and feet. I loved it! The view from the top is unreal with 360-degree views of northern NSW all the way up to Tweed Heads and the Gold Coast region. You will be looking down on other mountain tops which is surreal and possibly one of my favourite feelings. e smashed the hike out in 1 hour 15 minutes up and 1 hour back! Location Mount Warning is easily accessible from the Gold Coast (approx 45 minutes) and Byron Bay (1 hour). The closest town to Mount Warning is Murwillumbah. I have embedded a map for you below and suggest using Google maps to find your way. Other Tips for hiking Mount Warning Leave early it is a full day adventure Don’t forget water If you take rubbish in with you, take it home with you. Be aware of snakes, they are in the area. Mount Warning is the first place the sun hits in the morning, making it a popular sunrise hike for those willing to wake up at 2 pm. Book a tour of Mount Warning From Byron Bay, you can book a tour to Mount Warning, which is a great option if you are travelling alone without a car. You have three options: Mount Warning Sunrise Hike People love to hike Mount warning for sunrise as it is the first place that gets light in the morning. For all the early birds out there, this one is for you. Mount Warning Day Hike For the not so early birds, the day hike option is just as beautiful. Ocean to Summit Adventure Why not combine a kayaking adventure with a sunrise hike of Mount Warning. This also includes a night camping under the stars. This would be the option I would go for.

14.01.2022 How to support the Gold Coast's Bushfire affected communities The people of the Gold Coast are a proud, community-loving bunch. We love our city, the people within it and we’re all about lending a hand when someone else is in need. Which more than ever before, is now. Our beautiful Gold Coast hinterland, along with many other areas of Queensland, are currently experiencing devastating bushfires (as you’re no doubt aware) and there have been many homes and businesses lost.... We’ve compiled a list of ways we, as a community, can support those affected in terms of monetary, goods and time donations. The Queensland Fire Service and local fire stations have asked that all donations be taken to the designated spots so as not to hinder fire-fighting efforts. The Coomera Valley Rural Fire Brigade are accepting donations of food, water and toiletries. They open from 10am until late at 639 Reserve Road, Upper Coomera. The Mudgeeraba Rural Fire Brigade are accepting donations from 11am until 11pm at 415 Gold Coast Springbrook Rd, Mudgeeraba. Donations of goods and cash (via bank deposit) can be taken by Canungra Op Shop. If you have non-perishable food or other items you would like to donate, they will accept those ready for distribution. If you’d like to donate money please transfer to the below account: Lighthouse Community Services BSB: 064793 Account: 10073085 Reference: Bushfire Appeal For bank transfers, please also email the details of your gift so receipts can be issued and donations tracked [email protected] (donations are tax deductible). ALL money donated will be used for those affected by the crisis. Donations of cash for feed for livestock, wildlife and pets can be taken to Canungra Hardware phone 07 5543 4780. The Beechmont Fire Station are taking donations of food time, should you wish to volunteer email [email protected] with anything you’re willing to donate and they’ll respond with a scheduled time to assist. Funds can be donated at GIVIT here. Let’s not forget the animals also affected by the fires Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and Wildcare are both taking donations to help pay for medication and food. You can also donate to Koala Rescue Queensland (for medicine and food for all animals) here. Donate money for hay bales for horses here. If you’re aware of any other ways to donate, please contact us ASAP. Let’s stand together through this crisis, our community needs every single one of us. 06.01.2022 Check the list: Top things to do on the Coast When I ask just about anyone where they want to travel, Australia is almost always, at least part, of their answer. There is something about the foreignness or the isolation of this huge country and its range of unique experiences and animals. I was lucky enough to visit Australia as a child and have put together a list of things to do with kids on the Gold Coast as it is somewhere that I am often asked for advice on! https:/.../carpediemourway.com//things-with-kids-gold-coast-/ Carpe Diem Our Way Travel

05.01.2022 Quite obviously the Gold Coast is home to a growing number of epic eateries that will keep your Instagram feed filled for the rest of time. However, sometimes it’s nice to step outside your comfort zone and taste something slightly further afield. Upon investigation, it seems there are plenty of epic eateries just outside our pretty city that are guaranteed to knock your socks off (should you be wearing socks during the hottest summer of all time). Also, how fun are road trip...Continue reading
