24.01.2022 Have a good weekend folks and keep those windscreens clear! Im not sure which is funnier, the video or the commentary. Either way, its always good to finish the week with a laugh.

24.01.2022 Firing The Parts Cannon. Have you ever had your car in a repair shop and had this scenario? Your car has broken down or isnt running right. You get the car into a workshop and wait for the phone call telling you what the problem is, and how much it will cost. ... " Hi Mr Smith, weve diagnosed your cars problem, and the crankshaft sensor is faulty. It will cost $$ to fix the problem, would you like us to go ahead and replace the faulty sensor?" "Um, ok Mr Mechanic, youre the expert, please go ahead with the job." 2 hours later, your phone rings, " Hi Mr Smith, we have replaced the crankshaft sensor, but the car still has a problem. The camshaft sensor requires replacement also. The cost will be $$$ extra." "Hmmm, ok, I must have bad luck with this car huh? Please go ahead and fix it." A while later, the phone rings again, " Weve replaced the sensor, but there is still a problem. We need to replace the throttle body. Cost $$$$." " But how can there be so many problems with my car???" " I think, Mr Smith, you just have a bit of a lemon of a car. This model is notorious for electronic faults." And on it goes. Phone call after phone call, until eventually the tell you its fixed after having changed a myriad of parts, costing you thousands of dollars. This is known as "Firing The Parts Cannon". The mechanic isnt sure what the problem is, doesnt take the time to properly diagnose the fault, has a guess, and starts replacing parts willy nilly until its fixed. Naturally, he expects you to pay for everything, even if it wasnt faulty. At SanCo, we use modern diagnostic equipment along with the correct technical data, and take the time to properly diagnose what is causing the fault with your car, and only replace parts that we can prove to be faulty. If you want a mechanic who takes the time to be sure about what is wrong with your car, Call SanCo today! 0417181465

23.01.2022 27 hours, $21,000 and 16 sump plugs to change the engine oil and filters on a Bugatti Veyron! Now thats an expensive service! But I guess if you can afford the US$3,000,000+ price tag to buy one, $21,000 for a service is chump change.

23.01.2022 A very wise investment! We were recommended to a young bloke to have a pre purchase inspection done on a vehicle he wanted to buy. As it turned out, it was a very wise move. We found quite a few issues with the vehicle, wth a rough estimate of $4000 - $5000 needing to be spent to bring it up to a reasonable standard, which was about the value of the vehicle! Needless to say, the gent passed on buying it!... If you want peace of mind when buying a second hand car, call SanCo to give any car your thinking of buying a thorough inspection before you hand over your hard earned dollars! 18.01.2022 Part of SanCos major service is a full wheels off brake inspection. The owner of this 80 series Landcruiser booked his car in for a major service. When he dropped it off this morning, he mentioned that the brakes were ok, but didnt seem as good as they used to be. When you look at the pic below of the left and right rear brake discs, youll notice that they dont look the same. ... The shiny working surface of the right side is far less than the left side. This tells us that the right side brake isnt performing as it should. There was a problem with the right hand brake calliper which meant the force being applied to the brake pads wasnt enough to actually operate the brake. If your brakes seem a little off, book in for a major service and get a full brake inspection to make sure your car stops when you want it to! Www.sancomechanical.com.au

18.01.2022 Hey folks, this airbag recall is a serious issue and should not be ignored! In short, if you have a vehicle with a faulty air bag and have a serious enough crash to deploy the airbags, it will be like getting a shotgun blast to the face at point blank range. This recall affects a huge number of cars dating back to the late 90s, so please, if you havent checked to see if your car is affected, contact a dealer and check to see if your car is on the list.... The dealers will replace the air bags free of charge if required. .

18.01.2022 Can you stop in time? Heres a great little interactive reaction tester from the Road Safety Commission. It will show you your reaction times and distances as well as braking distances at different speeds and different road conditions when a hazard jumps out in front of you. See if you can avoid hitting the cow at 110 Km/h on the country road!

12.01.2022 A frustrating day for both us and our customer today. Our customer dropped their car off today for a straight forward timing belt replacement today and its turned out be a real headache, with additional costs, due a cheaprepair job being done previously by another workshop, and a poor maintenance history. Please folks, when it comes to having your car serviced or repaired and you get an absolute bargain of a price be very wary because I promise you, the quality of workmanship just wont be there and it will likely come back to haunt you.

11.01.2022 GET IT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! The one thing more important than being able to make your car go is to make sure it will stop! This beautiful, high performance Mercedes CLS500 once again graced our workshop today.... The cars computer monitoring system was telling the owner that the brake disc pads required replacement. But what the system couldnt tell is what condition the brake discs themselves were in. An inspection of the brake discs quickly revealed that the discs were worn and needed some attention. Taking some measurements with a micrometer told us that these discs were still within the maximum wear limits, so a quality disc skim was all thats needed to bring the discs back to a high standard of serviceability. The Merc is now back on the road, driving like a beast AND stopping on a dime! At SanCo, our mantra is There are no shortcuts to happiness!, which means we wont take any shortcuts when repairing your car! So if you want to make sure your cars brakes are repaired to the highest standard, go to www.sancomechanical.com.au and book your car in today.

11.01.2022 Love it when the working week finishes with a good news story! One of our good customers brought his Mercedes into our shop a couple of weeks ago and asked us to check on a warning message that came up on his dash panel. We were able to diagnose the problem on the spot with our computer scanning equipment, but it wasnt good news. This model Merc has a very advanced, computer controlled fly by wire braking system, and the fault laid within the software of one of the related c...omponents. The software programming can be reworked using Mercedes Benz factory equipment, but it is very expensive gear and leasing the required software alone costs thousands of dollars annually. The only repair option that we could offer to fix the fault was to replace the affected component, which would have cost around $3200.00! BUT, we did have another option for him. We suggested that he should take it to a specialist Mercedes workshop nearby, who would have the required factory service equipment, and see what they could do for our customer. Our customer popped in to see us today to let us know that the problem had been fixed by the Mercedes specialist, with their factory service equipment. They reset the problem software while he waited, checked to make sure all was in order with the system and gave the cars fly by wire braking system a clean bill of health. The cost was just $165.00, saving our customer over $3000! So while we could have sold the repair for $3200.00 to our customer who would have been none the wiser about other options, at SanCo we pride ourselves on our honesty and integrity, and thats just not the way we like to do business. Looking for a mechanic that you can trust? SanCo are the workshop for you! 10.01.2022 Heres a tip for those of you who own a late model diesel vehicle with Euro 5 spec emission control systems. When your vehicle carries out a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration to clean the exhaust particulate filter, temperatures can reach around 500 degrees, which will easily set dry grass on fire. Please make sure that when your car tells you it is going to do a DPF regeneration, you car isnt parked over any flammable material! Read your owners manual for information regarding DPF regeneration safety.

10.01.2022 THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS TO HAPPINESS! Car repairs, nobody really wants the expense of having their car repaired. But when you do, you want to be sure that its done right! We had a customer who had recently bought a second hand car. The car looked great and drove nicely, so they bought the car and were happy with their purchase.... But then after a couple of months, the car began overheating. The car was brought into our workshop and we diagnosed a blown head gasket. The car was still under warranty, so customer took the car back to the used car dealer. The dealer then rang us to discuss what faults we had found, and asked us if we would like to quote on repairing the car. We happily quoted on the repair, but we advised the dealer that our quote was based on repairing the car to a high standard, and we would not take short cuts to to do a "cheap" repair. We werent surprised when the dealer told us that they could get the job done cheaper elsewhere. That was fine with us. We werent going to compromise our reputation and standards just to land a job. The car was repaired elsewhere, and our customer was back on the road. Fast forward 6 weeks, and we get a call from the same customer. The car has traveled 1300 Km since the head gasket was repaired and the car is leaking coolant, overheating again, and the car is now out of warranty. We checked the car for why it was overheating, and sure enough we found short cuts had been taken to keep the cost down when the head gasket fault was repaired, which resulted in the coolant leaks. At SanCo, we know that there are no short cuts when repairing your car correctly. Sure, it may cost a little more to have the job done right, but when a car leaves our workshop, our customers drive away knowing the job has been done to the highest standard and their car will perform as it should and not break down again due to a "cheap" repair. If you want to be sure your car is repaired to a high standard and not just a "cheap" price, go to www.sancomechanical.com.au or call us on 0417 181 465 and book your car for the best repair possible.

07.01.2022 Can you trust SanCo to be an honest automotive repair centre? You bet you can! Good news this week for a customer who hasnt used SanCo before. Earlier this week we followed up on a lead from a local Facebook group.... The owner had recently purchased a second hand car during winter from a second hand car dealer, and now that the weather is warming up, they have found out that the air con doesnt work. She contacted the car yard and they told her that a cars air con isnt covered by the used car statutory warranty ( which is correct ) and that they were not required to repair it under warranty. The cars owner asked us how much it would cost to repair her cars air con. We explained to her that we would need to diagnose where the fault lies, and then we could give her a quote to repair. She brought the car into our shop and we had found the problem within 10 minutes. The refrigerant had leaked out, and we were able to identify where the leak was coming from. The repair quote came in at just over $1000. Naturally the owner wasnt thrilled at the cost involved, but she needed the air con to be fixed and had resigned herself to the idea that she was going to have to pay for it out of her own pocket. But wait! We did have some potentially good news for her. The car was built in early 2016, so we checked her warranty booklet. Her car came with a 3 year factory warranty. Now, although the car was built in early 2016 and we are now in September 2019, a new car warranty starts from the date of first registration, not the build date. The actual sale / registration date had not been written in the warranty booklet, so we advised the owner that she should contact Mazda and find out the warranty status of the car. Yesterday she called us to let us know that she had contacted a Mazda dealer and they told her they would repair it under the new car warranty! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! A great way to finish the week. If your looking for a mechanic that you can trust, look no further than SanCo. Call us on 0417181465 or go to www.sancomechanical.com.au today!
