21.01.2022 FIRE PERMITS WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED ON THE MID NORTH COAST FROM SUNDAY The Rural Fire Service has ended the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period for all coun...cil areas from the MidCoast to the Queensland border a month early due to the milder conditions. Although fire permits are no longer required, property owners must still exercise caution and follow guidelines regarding the use of fire, said District Manager, Superintendent Kam Baker. Residents must notify neighbouring land owners and their local fire authority at least 24 hours before burning, as well as taking appropriate action to ensure containment and control of fire so it doesn’t escape and cause damage." Penalties still apply for failing to notify neighbours that you are lighting a fire and for allowing fires to escape." RFS photo

17.01.2022 There are a few things you can do that will help us greatly in the event you ever find your property under threat of fire particularly in rural areas. - Ensure your street number is clearly identifiable from the road. If possible use relective numbers as they will be visible at night time. - Ensure entrances to your property are wide enough for a truck to fit through and ensure it is clear of low hanging branches etc. ... - If you have a pool, dam or water tank on your property, consider placing a static water supply (SWS) sign at the entrance of your property. This will let us know there is a water supply nearby that we can access if required. While we hope you never need us to come to your aid, These simple steps can save us precious minutes which can make all the difference.
11.01.2022 We have just returned to station after attending this incident in the early hours of this morning, along with Lake Innes Rural Fire Brigade, Camden Haven RFB and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 492 Wauchope. Praise be to the coffee lord today as we head off to our day jobs.

If you have a permit you are required to follow all conditions of the permit including notifications to be given to the NSW RFS, and adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours prior to the fire being lit. To obtain a permit please contact the local fire control centre on 02 6588 9000 and they will put you in touch with a permit officer.

06.01.2022 A big shout out to Maxwell Hillier and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for capturing the good sides of our models in this mural dedicated to the 19-20 Bushfire Season. This mural is erected outside the Rollands Plains Reserve, and we think you will agree it looks fantastic!
06.01.2022 Hard to believe it's been just over a year since this kicked off! We, amongst nearly every brigade in the district spent many days and nights babysitting this and trying to keep it contained to the dried out swamp it kept creeping along in It was finally declared 'out' in February after many attempts to escape containment after substantial rainfall finally penetrated the ground enough to smother it.... It has a habit of only burning once every 20 years or so when we go through a period of extended drought, here's hoping its even longer this time
03.01.2022 Ever wondered how the big planes you see dumping retardant on fires are co-ordinated and how they work out where to put the lines? Here's a bit of behind the scenes footage of the management of the airspace above a fireground.
03.01.2022 It has been a very busy time for our Brigade training team. We are currently running 4 training sessions a week, 3 of which are dedicated to getting all our new firefighting recruits through their Bush Firefighter course. Tonight our Senior Deputy Captain Sarah took our trainees through various aspects of communications. It was a fun, practical and hands on session that taught our recruits the fundemantals of radio communications within the NSW Rural Fire Service.
