22.01.2022 Tips for a Healthy Diet: Foods high in sugar are a particularly common cause of tooth decay. Making these foods a treat rather than a staple will help protect your teeth. To maintain a balanced diet, eat a variety of foods from each of the five major food groups.... When choosing a snack, go for nutritious foods such as cheese, raw vegetables, plain yogurt or a piece of fruit.

21.01.2022 TOOTH EXTRACTION Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, your dentist will try to fix with a filling, crown, root canal treatment or other treatment. Sometimes, there is too much damage for the tooth to be repaired. In this case, the tooth needs to be extracted.... Here are tips for pain management after you get that tooth removed... You can put ice packs on your face to reduce swelling. Alternate 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Eat soft and cool foods for a few days. Starting 24 hours after surgery, swish with warm salt water. Use one-half teaspoon of salt in a cup of water. You should not smoke, use a straw or spit after surgery. These actions can pull the blood clot out of the hole where the tooth was. Take any medications prescribed by your Dentist. If the pain continues even after two days of tooth extraction and bleeding starts then you should consult your Dentist.

21.01.2022 Be sure to brush twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste & spit not rinse.

19.01.2022 VENEERS Veneers are customised made shells that are designed to permanently bond to the front surfaces of your teeth. They are made of thin layers of either porcelain or a strong composite resin. Veneers correct dental problems such as dental gaps, discoloration, worn enamel, uneven teeth, cracked and chipped teeth. Porcelain or Composite veneers , which are better?... Porcelain Veneers: They are created to match the shape and color of your natural teeth.Porcelain veneers look very natural and its hard to tell which teeth have veneers and which do not have. They are strong, long lasting and stain resistant.Depending on Individual circumstances, porcelain veneers may cost more than composite veneers. Composite Veneers: Composite resin is a less expensive material that is also tooth colored and frequently used for veneers. This kind of veneer require less preparation, cost less and are easier to repair than porcelain veneers. They can be installed in a single appointment, whilst porcelain veneers require a longer process. However they have a shorter lifespan and wear down more easily than porcelain. Veneers are a permanent commitment, so make sure that you are fully informed about your options before deciding what material is best for you. By working closely with your Dentist, you can determine if you are a good candidate for veneers and find the best way to improve the appearance of your smile.

16.01.2022 DENTURES Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth.Your dentures will last longer and fit better if you take proper care of them. Denture care is also important for the health of your mouth. Here are some tips for denture care... Clean dentures daily: Brush and rinse your dentures daily, but not with toothpaste.Toothpaste is abrasive and creates microscopic scratches where food and plaque can build up, instead use a soft bristle brush and water to brush all surfac...es of the dentures. Be careful not to bend any attachments when brushing. Rinse your dentures with water after each meal. Brush your gums, tongue, palate and also your remaining teeth every morning before you insert dentures. Treat Dentures Right When handling dentures stand over a folded towel or basin of water, so you dont break your dentures if they fall. Dentures are delicate and may break if dropped. When you are not wearing your dentures, let them soak in cool water or a denture cleaning solution to keep them from drying out. Remove your dentures (full or partial) every night. This allows the gum tissue beneath them a chance to rest. See your Dentist if dentures break, chip, crack or become loose. Do not be tempted to adjust them yourself, this can damage them beyond repair.

08.01.2022 Happy Friday Everyone... weve got that Friday FILLING.

07.01.2022 DENTAL FILLINGS A filling is a way to restore a damaged tooth to normal shape and function. The dentist prepares the affected tooth by cleaning off an infected / decayed area or smoothing a fractured rough surface so that a filling may be placed comfortably. Fillings close off spaces where bacteria can enter the tooth, a filling also helps prevent further decay. There are four common ways in which fillings can be done:... 1.Dental composite Tooth colored material that can be molded to blend with the rest of the tooth in a way that covers conceals the defect. 2.Glass ionomer composite (GIC) Tooth colored material which has an antibacterial and tooth strengthening activity in the mouth. 3.Precast fillings (on-lays and inlays), These are laboratory or machine manufactured fillings which are milled to precision using either tooth colored or precious metal (gold) blocks. 4 Dental amalgam (silver metallic fillings) Which are less popular and most modern dentists are no longer using them due to aesthetic concerns. Five common questions I get about fillings are, "How much is a filling ?" ..."Which material is best"..."Are fillings painful ?" ..."Will it last forever ?" ... "Can all damaged teeth be filled?" Well, prices are material specific and case specific. There is no one best filling for every person, its all depends on your tolerance, allergies, affording, decay risk and extent of tooth damage. Also material and cost will depend on what you agree upon with your dentist for the best aesthetic results for your teeth.Filling shouldnt be painful since it is done under local anesthesia (numbing), also there shouldnt be pain or discomfort after the filling is done, slight sensitivity may be experienced a day or two after some deep fillings but shouldnt be disrupting and anything disrupting your quality of life should be revisited by the dentist for correction. Nothing lasts forever, but when you keep your mouth clean and healthy, your well placed filling will surely last long. Not all damaged teeth can be filled, some need extraction some need crowns/caps and some may need root canal treatment before placement of a filling or crown, we will discuss these treatments in future posts.

01.01.2022 ROOT CANAL TREATMENT A tooth consists of a crown and a root. The crown is mainly above the gum, while the roots are below it.The roots attach the tooth to the jawbone. Root canal is the hollow section of a tooth that contains nerve tissue, blood vessels and other cells, also known as pulp. A root canal treatment is a procedure that repairs and saves a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During root canal procedure the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of ...the tooth is cleaned and filled with an inorganic substance. There are many clinical reasons for needing root canal treatment, but there are also countless practical reasons why saving the natural tooth is a wise choice. It helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. Efficient and Cost Effective Tooth extraction can take longer than root canal treatment due to follow-up appointments required for a denture, bridge or implant. Root canal treatment costs vary, but it can be a less costly option than having a tooth removed and replaced. Visually appealing Result Crowns not only function like natural teeth, they look great too. Improve your smile and laugh out loud again with root canal treatment.
