24.01.2022 It is probably no surprise that we are cancelling our meeting scheduled for this Wednesday evening (25th March) due to the COVID-19 risk. Our board are investigating options with regard to when or how we may hold the meeting in the future, so we'll write again when we have a decision. Meanwhile, we'd encourage all current members to renew their membership, and invite new members to apply.... If you wish to pay your Sanctuary membership, this is $30 per individual, $45 per family (or institutions), or $15 for concession card holders. Bank Account Payments: Account Name: Sanctuary Northern Rivers Financial Institution: Summerland Credit Union BSB: 728-728 Account: 25806710 Please include your name as an identifier on the payment, as we will not know who the payment is from otherwise. It is always best to also advise us of your payment via email to [email protected] so that the treasurer can identify your payment with a specific person. Existing members need not submit an application form, but new members need to also complete and send the application form that can be downloaded here. https://www.sanctuary.asn.au//SNR_Membership_Application_F Existing members, please advise via email of any change to contact details since last year. Thanks everyone, and please stay safe during this difficult time, Ian Phillips President, Sanctuary Northern Rivers

07.01.2022 Great to see 2 specific reunions happening this week that we and our project partners have been working on for the last while. Seeing families put back together or formed after the destructive affects of war and persecution, is such a reward of its own. Thanks to our Sanctuary team, and to the team at Visa Assist (Nathan and Sandie Willis) If you'd like to help with a tax deductible gift for either of these families including children, please use this form.... (these reunions are in a locality away from Northern Rivers, but connected to families who first settled in Lismore) https://www.givenow.com.au/sanctuarynorthernrivers
07.01.2022 Thanks to Byron Bay High and their SRC for their support. A lovely gift of non-perishable food items that will help a family who will arrive in Australia in the next few weeks.
05.01.2022 A project we previously undertook was the distribution of banners to schools, printed with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This project has not had coordinator (or 2) for several years now, and so we are wondering if there may be people in our Sanctuary Community who would like to undertake this volunteer project. Previously the coordinator contacted schools individually to offer the banner for public display in an area of the school, and many local schools took up... the offer at the time. The banners represent an opportunity for the schools to engage in the history and background of this remarkable declaration that was formulated post World War 2. There is some information on our website (which also needs work :-) ) here: Please contact us here or email [email protected] if you are interested in coordinating this project https://www.sanctuary.asn.au/universal-/what-is-the-project

02.01.2022 Next Sanctuary Board Meeting 18th Nov 2020 5.30pm at Lismore Workers Club
01.01.2022 Dear Sanctuary Supporters Our regular board meeting is being held this Wednesday night at 5.30pm at the Lismore Workers Club. We offer any member of Sanctuary this invitation if they wish to attend along with our elected board. Of particular interest this time is a visit to our meeting by Marilyn Leek, who is a member of the Ballina Region for Refugees committee (BR4R) who will speak to their engagement and hopes with the Community Refugee Sponsorship Programme initiative. Th...is will be for up to 30 minutes at the beginning of the meeting which will start at 5.30pm. Main aspects of the further agenda include reports from a sub-committee looking at fundraising options and plans, as well as a report from a sub-committee looking at Sanctuary's policy connected to the Australian Government's external conduct standards (money raised by Sanctuary destined for use in other countries). Normal reports will also be considered, our AGM date will be discussed, plus some other matters. The public session of the meeting will then conclude, as the elected committee consider loans and loan requests (ie confidential matters). Looking forward to catching up, for those who can make it.
