23.01.2022 Training + Recovery = Training Effect Just think on the above line for a moment, really take that in. This fact in itself negates the belief that more is always better. What’s the least amount you can train for the most amount of result (training effect)? Within your general training/sport preparation, how many recovery weeks do you have? If you train continuously week after week with no end in sight I can guarantee you won’t fulfil your potential. There is always a cost, if ...you train at high intensity for 8-10 weeks straight your nervous system is going to be pretty fried. If this is your approach and you’re trying to peak at the end of that timeframe then all your hard work will not show come game day, your body can’t physically do it. The answer is to plan your recovery and track your fatigue from day to day, the decisions you make today will affect you tomorrow, next week and the coming months and years. Tiafimo has the world at his feet after dethroning Vasyl Lomachenko in a fight that I did not see him winning and yet the power of presence was witnessed again with a young warrior whom did not buy into opinion nor belief yet trusted in what he knew to be true. And what he knew to be true was that his strength, ability and want to defeat Loma would secure the win. . . .
12.01.2022 Non-Specific Specific Flexibility Strength Speed Endurance GPP SPP... The above Specificity continuum is an Ian King innovation. The potential in respecting this is career changing when applied to the athlete in an appropriate manner. The bottom line is this, if you don’t take time away from playing the sport to complete a GPP to focus solely on the non specific injury prevention qualities (Flexibility and Strength) then the athlete WILL get injured and WILL NOT fulfil their potential in sport and will most likely face an early retirement. Forget the insecurities surrounding I’m gonna get worse at my sport with a break or I’m not fit enough bullshit, that’s a fairy tale. Once you’ve completed a smart, rationalised GPP for 8-12 weeks you then you go back into your SPP for 6-10 weeks or so where you work on the specific qualities (Speed and Endurance) in which after about 3 weeks your endurance comes back and all the childlike whinging and whining about fitness ceases to happen because ya know what? Your GPP made your body function more efficiently therefore you acquired your skills, speed and endurance faster allowing you to progress faster!! What do ya know! You just got better at your sport!! Imagine doing this consistently over 10-15 years!! So basically in all sports globally we see athletes that actually never take time away from the specific qualities and playing the sport and therefore their imbalances worsen over the years creating surgery and an early retirement. On top of this they perform poor strength training programs that magnify their existing imbalances from the sport and they wonder why the athlete can’t keep competing. And further than that the athletes can’t touch their toes because their flexibility training is not respected as training and doesn’t really exist and what do ya know! The coach can’t touch their toes either, funny that! Example Preparation GPP January & February 8 weeks (Flexibility and Strength) Injury Prevention/Performance Enhancement March & April 8 weeks (Speed and Endurance) Play the sport!! Maintain what you acquired in the GPP (remember this is maintenance) Half of May 2weeks Transition Phase Rest!!
