14.01.2022 A massive shout out to all who helped us bring a little more joy and a little less suffering to SANDBAG clients this year, including women and children who are experiencing or have escaped domestic violence/abuse. This email came from one survivor (with consent to share): ‘I am writing to thank you for the wonderful bag of 'goodies' I received. It was such a lovely surprise and I was touched that there are people that care so much and take the time to pack such beautiful gift...s. Due to DV I left home with just a suitcase. I haven't been able to afford some of life’s basic items. There was a time when I stood in an aisle at a supermarket deciding whether to buy toothpaste or shampoo because I couldn't afford both. I felt like a child on Christmas day unpacking these beautiful and thoughtful gifts. Leaving a DV situation can be a lonely and stressful time as you leave everything you know and is familiar. The gifts were not just practical but so very lovely. It is hard to find the words to express my joy in receiving these gifts.’ So, thank YOU for your support and huge thanks to: Share the Dignity and Rochelle Courtenay for handbags with personal care items Bridgeman Baptist Community Church for Christmas food hampers Bracken Ridge Sewing group for the stunning handmade bathroom bags with goodies A very generous donor who coordinated a collection of foods, personal care items and Christmas presents for women and children Without your support, we would have nothing to offer those needing a helping hand. You have made a huge difference

06.01.2022 It's R U OK?Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say after R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK?... Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
