24.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared a total fire ban this Friday for all municipalities in the southern region. This is because high temperatures are expected to... push the fire danger rating into Very High and Severe in several areas. The declaration of a Total Fire Ban means it is illegal to light or cause a fire in the open air, including incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The total fire ban will be in force in the following municipalities from 2am Friday 20 December until 2am Saturday 21 December: Brighton, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Sorell, Southern Midlands, and Tasman. More information on Total Fire Bans and incidents in your area can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au or by listening to ABC Local Radio.

22.01.2022 Recently many brigades in the North West Bay group have been attending daytime structure fires. Their efforts have minimalised property loss and kept the community safe. This is an example of our professionalism and dedication to the job we do as volunteers. A powerful moment that was captured at one of those incidents......photo by Ron Moss

15.01.2022 It was a great day fundraising for our Brigade and chatting with the community. Thanks to the members for giving up their Saturday and the community for their great support

15.01.2022 Weather permitting, the Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Sunday 15th November at Thieving Hill, Pelham, as part of the sta...te-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities. The total area of this burn will be approximately 110 hectares, and is likely to take 1-2 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites: http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth//air/bushfire_smoke https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke. Current air quality information is also available via the Environment Protection Authority website https://epa.tas.gov.au//real-time-air-quality-data-for-tas Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Parks and Wildlife Service on phone 61654053. A map of planned burns is available on the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow

13.01.2022 TFS strongly recommends that landholders in parts of the Midlands and South East hold off on burning and lighting campfires on Friday and Saturday ahead of fore...cast high temperatures and strong winds on Saturday. The conditions will increase the likelihood of burns escaping. This advice applied to people in the Huon Valley (eastern side), Clarence, Sorell, Derwent Valley, Southern Midlands, Central Highlands and Kingborough local government areas. In preparation for the conditions, TFS will double the brigade response to any vegetation fires in the southern region on Saturday, and have aircraft and incident management teams on standby. Keeping fire in the landscape to a minimum and reducing the risk of uncontrolled bushfires will allow our dedicated volunteers to spend an uninterrupted Easter break with their families. Landholders must also remember that they are responsible for any fire they light on their property, and for keeping it contained to their own land. This responsibility extends to ensuring that any fires that have been lit in recent days and weeks are monitored over the weekend to ensure they don’t flare up and escape.

10.01.2022 The weather at this time of the year is fickle. One day the weather can be perfect for burning and a couple of days later it's warmer and the wind picks up, ca...using those burns to escape. TFS has seen an increase in escaped burns on private property over the last couple of weeks. We encourage property owners to use favourable weather conditions to burn and reduce fuels to mitigate their bushfire risk, but this must be done safely . If you're planning to burn on your property you must be adequately prepared for the size of the burn and for the weather conditions you are burning in. You should also keep checking it in the days after it's been extinguished.

10.01.2022 Do you have a bushfire plan? With the bushfire season at our doorstep, if you live in or near the bush (which is pretty much all Tasmanians), you need one. With... our new online tool, it's never been simpler or quicker! In five minutes you can run through a simple questionnaire to plan out what you will do to keep yourself and everyone in your household safe in the event of bushfire. To complete your 5 minute bushfire plan visit www.fire.tas.gov.au and click on the 'Bushfire - Why Risk It?" tab on the homepage. #bushfireready #bushfirewhyriskit #bushfires #beprepared
