07.05.2022 Edit: all filled thank you! It’s National volunteer week! Come and see why these ladies are smiling so much. We still need 2 marshals, a token support person and a photographer for this week. All are super easy roles, just need your phone for marshalling and photographer. We’d love to see a few new faces down there so if you haven’t volunteered for a while or before this is your week!

25.01.2022 Today, we would have been celebrating 8 years of Sandgate parkrun - here’s a photo of our very first day back in November 2012! Instead, we hope you all enjoyed your last Saturday sleep in as we prepare to return next week! We can’t wait to be back, see you then

23.01.2022 Thanks to our friends at Baaia for the warm welcome ahead of our return on Saturday!

23.01.2022 As You Were If you go down to the front today You shouldn’t get a surprise If you come down to the park today... Just as the sun begins to rise For nearly every runner that ever there was Will gather there today because Today’s the day we bring back parkrun See more

23.01.2022 New photos are up. There are 3 photo posts from today!! Tried to capture as many people as possible. Sorry if we missed you. Mini Vollie and her Mum tried their best... and had a lot of fun with this volunteer position

22.01.2022 You all ready for this? It’s coming back It's coming back It's coming... parkrun’s coming back Just one week to go, parkies, one short week, and we’ll see just how Covid has treated us all. We will update you during the week with the measures that will need to be followed. Please allow extra time next Saturday to get to the start line. And please be patient with us as we introduce the new measures, and frankly, try to remember everything we have to do anyway. And when you’re there, have a look at the vollie roster. It’s gonna need feeding with some names. Be excited, stay safe.

21.01.2022 Too hot to run, but still want to get your parkrun fix? Summer is a great time to get your volunteer credits up. Whilst we understand that everyone is keen to run to make up for the Covid break, we cannot run without volunteers. To enable parkrun to happen this week, we need to fill the following roles:... Timekeeper Finish Tokens 1 x Marshal 3 x Barcode Scanners Photographer Please respond to this post if you can help. If you can't help this week, please consider putting your name down for following weeks, as there are heaps of spots available. Thanks Sandgate Team

19.01.2022 Can you believe we’re finally back tomorrow?! It’s been a long 8 months apart! Just a couple of quick reminders for tomorrow: - you’ll be required to check in: you can do it before you leave using the pic below, when you get home, or at the park (we will have several physical QR codes on hand) - first timer’s briefing at 6:50am if you’ve never come along before... - no spitting or high-fiving - the path will be BUSY!!! Please stay left at all times - don’t forget your printed barcode! Dig it out tonight so you’re prepared - no barcode, no time. - we’ll take care of the rest! Volunteer vests are washed, tokens are cleaned & sorted, we are raring to go! See you before 7am See more

19.01.2022 Hi parkrunners, Following guidance provided by Queensland Government, all events in the Greater Brisbane area will be cancelled this weekend - that includes Sandgate parkrun. Please respect the lockdown restrictions, safety comes first and we hope to return next week!

16.01.2022 The Good News: HQ has given us the green light to go ahead this Saturday 16th January! The Bad News: our vounteer roster is almost completely empty!!! We can't go ahead unless we fill each position - so please comment below if you can help out, especially if it's been a while since you last volunteered. If we all have a go every so often, then we won't have any problems filling the spots.... Thanks in advance!

16.01.2022 Hi team, We're needing 2-3 more barcode scanners for this Saturday. Please let us know if you can help out. No worries if you've never done it before, it's easy and fun! You just need to download the parkrun volunteer app and bring it along on the day, we'll show you the rest. Thanks! The Sandgate Parkrun team

15.01.2022 WE'RE BACK! Following extensive discussions with the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation, parkrun Australia have approval to reopen all 107 parkrun and junior parkrun events in Queensland on 28 November. When events reopen in Queensland they will each be required to display a unique QR code for contact tracing purposes and we will be strongly encouraging all participants to sign in. This system currently exists for parkruns in New Zealand and the ACT and is working ...effectively. Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks. TAG YOUR RUNNING FRIENDS!

13.01.2022 That’s a wrap for event #400! Thanks to all our volunteers and a special call out to Gabe (one of our Run Directors) for celebrating her 200th run.

13.01.2022 It's great to be back out in the community! Special thanks to Yvonne for capturing this momentous morning!

13.01.2022 We can't wait to be back out at Sandgate parkrun again on November 28! Thanks for your patience & excitement as we all work towards returning in a Covid-safe way. We will soon be putting out the call for volunteers for the first few weeks, so stay turned for that. We will also be communicating how things might be a little different to before - around things like checking in, social distancing in the pre-run brief and covid-safe barcode scanning - but don't worry, it's still the same parkrun we know and love! In the meantime, get training and block out 7am Saturdays in your diaries once again! We can't wait to see you soon.

11.01.2022 1 more sleep until parkrun day! We have the green light to run our event tomorrow, we are an outdoors event so masks are not generally needed to be worn, however we will ask our volunteers to wear a mask to help ensure we keep this great event going. See you all at 6.50am for 7am start.

10.01.2022 It’s a beautiful day on the bay! See you soon!

09.01.2022 ust 5 days until we return! Thankyou to the many who have already been in touch about volunteering - we have already filled this Saturday! As you can see, there are still plenty of vacant spots over the next few weeks, so please get in touch if you want to help out. A couple of quick notes: - we will be using more runners to help with barcode scanners, after they complete their 5km, so that we can avoid large crowds gathering in the park. We will provide more info on this o...n the day. - FYI token sorting is no longer a role completed at the event. All tokens will be taken home to be disinfected, dried and then sorted. We will keep that role within our Run Director team for the first few weeks. The roster can be viewed here - https://www.parkrun.com.au/sandgate/futureroster/ Can't wait to see you soon!

09.01.2022 Not long to our return! Just a few extra guidelines to follow...

08.01.2022 It’s happening...we’re back! See you just before 7, don’t forget your barcode!

07.01.2022 Morning parkies We’ve been chatting about what we might put into a Covid-safe plan. So far we’ve got: Instead of saying we’re going for a run, let’s say we’re all going to watch a football match. ... May whatever team you want to win this weekend wins. Stay safe parkies.

06.01.2022 One of the minor changes you'll notice at parkrun this week is that we are asking you to check in via QR code for contact tracing purposes. This is part of our agreement with the Queensland Government for our return. The code below is for any time you come to Sandgate parkrun - each event has their own unique code. You can check in before or after parkrun, and we will have several printed copies scattered around Arthur Davis Park on Saturday. Thanks for your co-operation! We have a full roster this week, except for photographer. Please let us know if you can help out by documenting our return with some happy snaps! We do have a camera in the kit if you need to borrow one. Please let us know if you can help out!

06.01.2022 Parkies of Sandgate #5 Sarajane Youels isn’t your typical parkrunner. Don’t get me wrong, she has a respectable pb of 33:56 which means she can do the business on the foreshore. Where most of us struggle to get up on a Saturday morning, find something quick to eat, open our running gear draw and pull out whatever is on top, Sarajayne will have considered her outfit the night before and have it laid out, colour coordinated. ... When SJ gets up, after getting dressed she then considers her make-up, with a SF-50 built in. SJ will match the colour of her lipstick with her running kit, before stepping out serenely to the parkrun start. Such a shy, demure person, she chooses to run with friends than to sweat it out with the rabbits up front. Although you can always pick her out on the course with her cheery smile. And after the run has been done, you’ll find Sarajayne in any one of the fine coffee shops in the village. Say hello to Sarajayne when pr starts again, her cheerio on the path will pick up your day. Stay safe, parkies. Just three weeks to go if we all hold steady.

05.01.2022 It’s so good to have parkrun back We're asking all parkrunners to check-in using a QR code at all events in Queensland. Look out for the laminated QR code at the Sandgate start/finish area. It's easy and you can even do it before or after you've been to parkrun by using the QR code below. ... #loveparkrun

02.01.2022 So good to be back!! Thanks to the almost 400 runners & walkers who joined us for our first week back. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who made the morning run so smoothly.... Thanks to the community for the ongoing support. Thanks for everyone’s patience for the minor changes we’ve made to run a Covid-safe event. Results have been processed & photos will be uploaded later today. Same place, same time next week - see you then!

02.01.2022 Only two weeks to go, parkies. Stay safe. Meanwhile, here at Sandgate parkrun HQ we've been hearing the chatter about the Aussie National Anthem in the news and it got us thinking. Why not throw them out and choose a different one altogether. Imagine what it would be like if one of our speedy young parkies - Mitchell, Jessica, Ruben - made the Olympics and they got their medal to our new anthem AC/DC's Thunderstruck.

01.01.2022 Thanks Savannah for the great photos!
