23.01.2022 The start of our 2020 harvest today, bringing in our Sauvignon Blanc. We are grateful for the good fortune that has spared the Bendigo region the agony of fire and smoke this summer. Our thoughts are with our fellow vignerons in regions less fortunate.

21.01.2022 With the last of our grapes the Nebbiolo off the vine, the 2020 harvest is now a wrap. The small crop actually worked well this year: we only needed a small crew, and could practice social distancing. Plus, it will make for some great wine! We’re postponing our annual pizza-for-pickers night till we get through this, but want to send out a big thank you to everyone who helped us this year. Stay safe, all!

17.01.2022 Can't wait to see all our Melbourne friends back here!

17.01.2022 Happy September! Welcome Spring! The wattle is in bloom, and George has finished pruning. Now we just wait for good spring rains (which are predicted) and no frosts.

15.01.2022 If you're thinking that you might be quarantined at home for the period of two weeks, your essential supplies to stock up on should be good wine and good books.

08.01.2022 What a weekend! We're back and open for business across the Bendigo wine region, and you've come out and supported our wineries and enjoyed our cellar doors. We... say THANKS and we'll keep doing our best to offer you great wine experiences during these times. Here's Paul from Sandhurst Ridge Winery #BendigoWine

07.01.2022 And then there's been the planting of vines. George Greblo is taking advantage of this year's good rainfall to replace a few vines we, unfortunately, lost in the last few years of drought.

07.01.2022 Still time to be a spectator and tune in to this Friday evening's session of Bendigo Heritage Uncorked. We will be presenting our Nebbiolo at Bendigo's celebrated Chinese Museum. Join us, and Ken from GilGraves Wines and David from @Black Wallaby Wines to learn about our wines. Check out what is happening over the next few Fridays! #Bendigowine https://www.bendigoregion.com.au/.../bendigo-heritage...

04.01.2022 Nourishment for home isolation from us! Minestrone alla Famiglia Greblo When the first cool days of autumn arrive, we look for the appearance of bacon bones and ham hocks in the stores so we can make our favourite soup. It’s a very basic, and forgiving, recipe, one that can be adjusted according to your taste or available ingredients. For example, you don’t really need two types of lentils; we like the green ones for their firmness and the red ones for colour. And if you have... more mouths to feed, just add more water and more of lentils, barley or vegetables. If you have some good chicken stock on hand, that would be far better than water + chicken stock granules. But the main secret ingredient in this family soup, and one we never omit, is the sauerkraut. Our family came from Trieste, in northern Italy, an area which had been part of the Austro-Hungarian empire until the end of the first World War. Cabbage appeared often on the tables there (and in another traditional soup from the region, Jota). Sour cabbage, or sauerkraut, is what gives this minestrone a special zing. Ingredients 2 Tbspn olive (or vegetable) oil C barley 1 large onion, diced 1 clove garlic 2 stalks celery, diced 2 T chicken stock granules (if not using real stock) 1 large or 2 small carrots, diced 2 bay leaves 1 small parsnip, diced 2 T tomato paste 1 potato, diced 1 400gm can Italian diced tomatoes 1 ham hock or kilo bacon bones 1 C sauerkraut C green lentils Salt & pepper to taste C red lentils Preparation 1. In a large soup pot, heat olive oil and briefly sauté the diced vegetables (onion, celery, carrots, parsnip, and potato). 2. Add 4 - 5 litres of water (or chicken stock) and ham hock (or bacon bones). Bring to a boil. 3. Add brown and red lentils, barley, bay leaf, garlic, and (if using water rather than your own chicken stock) add chicken stock granules. 4. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, and salt & pepper to taste. 5. Turn heat down to a simmer, and let simmer for at least two hours. 6. Turn off the heat and allow the soup to cool a bit. Remove the ham hock/bacon bones. 7. When the hock/bones are cool, remove the meat from the bones and add just the meat to the soup. 8. Bring the soup back to near the boiling point, add the sauerkraut, and allow to simmer another 15 minutes or so. Yield: 8-10 servings. Serve with crusty bread, grated parmesan cheese, and enjoy with a glass of Sandhurst Ridge Nebbiolo. Order here! https://www.sandhurstridge.com.au/wines Share your pics and tasting notes with us!
