24.01.2022 Today is the World Day of Vocations. Pope Francis tells us: There can be no greater joy than to risk one’s life for the Lord! I would like to say this especially to you, the young. Do not be deaf to the Lord’s call. If he calls you to follow this path, do not pull your oars into the boat, but trust him. Let us pray for the young people in our community, and in our families and circle of friends. May ... our prayers help them to be open to the Lord’s call to consecrated life or priesthood. 24.01.2022 Good Friday . Today we pause to reflect on the Cross and the symbol of sacrifice and love it is for all of us. The cross is a promise to us that we are loved so much that Jesus died for us. . Take some time to think about that today. You are loved by God that much. ... . Today’s photo features a Cathedral parishioner carrying a cross while Fr Shibu leads the Stations of the Cross this morning. See more

24.01.2022 This month, we have been praying especially for the souls of our faithful departed and are reminded of our call to become saints. In our final week of November and beyond, we invite you to share stories of people in your lives who are doing little acts of great love who are images of our saints of today. #EverydaySaints

23.01.2022 It's R U OK? Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say after R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK? ... Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to the R U Ok? website for ideas and advice about how to have these conversations. www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

22.01.2022 The Easter Vigil- the conclusion of the Easter Triduum which began on Holy Thursday. . Let there be Light!!! The inspiration for our theme for 2021 came from the Easter Vigil, where we begin in darkness with only candles to light our way as we listen to readings from the Old Testament. As we prepare to read the Gospel of Jesus’ resurrection, the lights are turned on for the remainder of the celebration. .... In the photo we see Bishop Shane and Fr Brian with the altar crew outside the Cathedral waiting to bless the fire and light the Paschal Candle (sometimes called the Easter Candle) that reminds us all of the light of Christ’s resurrection. . May this flame be found still burning by the Morning Star: the one Morning Star who never sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from death’s domain, has shed his peaceful light on humanity, and lives and reigns for ever and ever. (From the Exultet) See more

22.01.2022 Each saint teaches us in different ways how we can act out our faith in our daily lives. Today we remember St Elizabeth of Hungary who lived a simple life and showed a great love for the poor. May her profound gift of hospitality teach us to expand our hearts to love everyone without judgement or discrimination. #EverydaySaints

21.01.2022 Sorry Day is the day we acknowledge the injustices experienced by Stolen Generation. Thanks to St Joseph’s College, Echuca, for inviting Ruth to attend your Sorry Day Liturgy and also speak about Youth Ministry at your Assembly. 21.01.2022 Meet our new Sandhurst Youth Ministry team member Kristian Joy SandhurstYouth!!! And afterwards, if you have any follow up questions send them through.

21.01.2022 Holy Thursday . The Gospel read every year on Holy Thursday comes from the Gospel of John. The focus is not on the Eucharist as you would expect but rather focuses on what it means to be a Eucharistic Church. Our faith demands more of us than to show up on Sunday for communion. We are to be servant leaders in our communities, going o and washing the feet (or serving in other ways) of others. Jesus led by example by washing the feet of his disciples and expects we do the same.... . There are many ways of washing the feet of others. One small example is, if sharing a meal, to wait until last to get your food ensuring everyone else at the table has what they need before seeing to your own. . We’d love you to share different ways we can act as Servant Leaders and people of the Eucharist in our own communities. . In the image you can see Bishop Shane washing the feet of a family of 4 front when Cathedral Parish. See more

20.01.2022 "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them." ... The Ode, fourth stanza of the poem For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon #ANZACday#DevenishSiloArt

20.01.2022 It’s awesome when we’re reminded that our beautiful Sacred Heart Cathedral is appreciated by more than just the Catholics in town! It has been a key part of the Bendigo skyline for some time and is iconic!!! Anyone else looking forward to when it reopens?

20.01.2022 Throughout this month, we have been thinking and praying especially for those who have died and reflecting on the #EverydaySaints in our lives. Is there a book that you haven't been able to put down during the COVID-lockdown or any other time for that matter? There must have been a protagonist that captivated your heart in some way. We'd love to hear about how that character illustrates a way we can live out our faith. #EverydaySaints

16.01.2022 Consumerism, brothers and sisters, has stolen Christmas. Consumerism is not found in the manger in Bethlehem: there is reality, poverty, love. Let us prepare our hearts to be like Mary’s: free from evil, welcoming, ready to receive God. - Pope Francis

09.01.2022 Did you know that there are around 4.2 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation? One thing that we have learned through the COVID-19 pandemic is that practising good hygiene is very important to our health, so let's keep helping each other stay safe in this way. Today is World Toilet Day in which we celebrate toilets and a chance for us to start giving a 'crap' about the global sanitation crisis and our efforts in creating a sustainable future ...for our environment. In the Holy Father's encyclical letter, Laudato si', Pope Francis encourages us to take action to care for our common home in God's creation. http://www.vatican.va//papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-l What can you begin doing today to make a difference? Check out this link for more info and for some ideas: www.worldtoiletday.org #WorldToiletDay

07.01.2022 Did you know that 1 in 3 women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, most frequently by an intimate partner? This is one of many alarming figures surrounding violations against human rights. Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which raises awareness in the global fight for women's empowerment in education, economical, social and human rights, as well as an end to sexual violence and harassment, human trafficki...ng, child marriage, and other physical, sexual and psychological forms of violence against women and girls. Let's stand in solidarity in defending the dignity of all people, praying for peace and justice in our world today and in the future. 06.01.2022 The 3.8 metre high pilgrim cross, built for the Holy Year in 1983, was entrusted to the young people on Palm Sunday of the following year by John Paul II, to be... carried around the world. Since then, the pilgrimage of the wooden pilgrim cross has already taken it to five continents and almost 90 countries. It has been seen as a true sign of faith. It has been carried on foot, by boat and even by unusual means such as sledges, cranes and tractors. It has been through the jungle, visited churches, juvenile detention centres, prisons, schools, universities, hospitals, monuments and shopping centres. It has also encountered many obstacles on its journey: from air strikes to transport difficulties, such as being unable to travel since it would not fit into any of the available planes. In 1985, it was in Prague, the current Czech Republic, at the time when Europe was divided by the iron curtain, and represented communion with the Pope. Shortly after 9/11, it travelled to Ground Zero in New York, where the terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 people had taken place. It also went to Rwanda in 2006, after the country had been plagued by civil war. The icon of Our Lady Salus Populi Romani was also introduced by Pope John Paul II as a symbol of Mary’s presence among young people. Standing 1.20 metres high and 80 centimetres wide, the icon of Our Lady Salus Populi Romani is associated with one of the most popular Marian devotions in Italy. Continuing an old tradition, it is carried in a procession through the streets of Rome, to ward off dangers and misfortunes or to put an end to plagues. The original icon is housed in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maior, in Rome, and is visited by Pope Francis who goes there to pray and to leave a bouquet of flowers prior to and upon return from each apostolic journey.

05.01.2022 It’s been really awesome working on Ablaze this year with Catholic Education Sandhurst and FRG Ministry over the last few months. It may not look like it has over the last couple of years but we’re all pretty proud of our efforts!!! If you’re in one of our Catholic School make sure you wait to watch it with your class to get the full experience!!!

05.01.2022 Are you interested in being part of the conversation about the future of the Church in Australia? We’s love to see some of our young people represented in the conversations!!! Email [email protected] to register

03.01.2022 Instead of complaining in these difficult times about what the pandemic prevents us from doing, let us do something for someone who has less: not the umpteenth gift for ourselves and our friends, but for a person in need whom no-one thinks of! - Pope Francis

02.01.2022 More than a Word. Reconciliation takes Action. . As Reconciliation Week begins, Sandhurst Youth Ministry wishes to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of all the lands on which we live and works We pay our respect to the Elders past, present, and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across the nation.... We acknowledge the deep spiritual attachment and relationship of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to this country and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation. #morethanaword #NRW2021 Photos from Catholic Education Sandhurst's Reconciliation Week Mass.

02.01.2022 Did you know that St Clare of Assisi was the first to experience 'televised' Masses? It was reported that when she was very ill, she was able to see and hear the Holy Mass on her bedroom wall. How slow were we to get with the program! Who knew that a 13th century nun would become a patron saint of TVs and no doubt has interceded in our prayers to help us remain in spiritual communion and virtually connected with the Catholic Church especially during the 'coronatide'. World television day celebrates the growing influence of TV in our ever changing world, offering us a means of communication, education and entertainment. Let's use it better to share both the Good News and good news! #TV #GoodNews

01.01.2022 Continuing on from yesterday's Social Justice Sunday, today we're sharing some more resources made available by the Australian Catholic Bishops' Office for Social Justice. The main statement is available as a PDF and as a Podcast for easy listening! Episodes 1-3 cover the 3 sections of the statement and are all 20 minutes or less, so perfect for listening to as you go for a quick walk to break up your day! Further episodes expand on what is written in the statement, starting... with a conversation about young people and mental health. What are your thoughts on the statement? Did anything jump out at you? https://socialjustice.catholic.org.au//social-justice-sta/
