25.01.2022 Michael also joined the event team in 2019, after starting his parkrun career in 2016. Now with 147 runs in 25 locations, including 5 of the 9 parkruns that lie in the northern quarter of Tasmania, and one each in Canada, Singapore and New Zealand. He loves getting out for longer runs on the trails, but he's also very nifty over a speedy 5km parkrun. Michael has a pretty great record of 12 PBs! Can he make it 13 after we return?

24.01.2022 Yesterday we brought you Cherie of "Cherie and David". Today we bring you David. Cherie and David were both Run Directors in their own right - they essentially doubled the commitment their household made to RD-ing for our event, which is a massive commitment. David's stats are similar to Cherie's - 214 runs (snap!), 77 volunteers (he's got a few more volunteers than Cherie so they could reach their milestone runs together ) and 39 different locations. We're glad he's still running because this photo evidences he still has much room for improvement in his jump shots. We're so glad that he's still around when they're not off exploring a new parkrun event.

23.01.2022 You'll never complain about a parkrun 'hill' ever again! [We know you will though]

23.01.2022 We wish everyone a wonderful Christmas. Boxing Day - SATURDAY morning 8am we are back in business, our scenic 5Km course awaits, rain, hail or shine. For all who intend rocking up please be aware we have a slight change in format to accommodate the Covid framework, notably:... - QR codes which we encourage all to scan before the run, available on site and on Facebook - a separate first timers/tourist briefing at 7:50 - a very short 2 minutes max (please keep me to this) briefing - milestones can be celebrated after the run (self service) - please display your barcode and token for scanning, scanners will direct you to drop the token into a bucket. - no hi-fives and no spitting during the run - please observe NSW Health guidelines relating to social distancing before and after the run. Let's all just have fun. Thank you & see you Saturday morning.

23.01.2022 Now to the last of the trio who became Run Directors at the same time in 2019 - Simon. Simon got tantalisingly close to reaching 200 runs before the pandemic, landing on 198 runs. On the way, Simon has an impressive streak of not missing a single weekend between 7/11/2015 to 25/2/2017 - that's 69 consecutive parkrun weekends, all except one of which were at Sandon Poin. The one at Parramatta was before a wedding and still remains to be his fastest ever parkrun time. In more recent times, Simon is often seen out there with his family, either running with his daughter, or talking the whole family into tail walking on a very wet day! All this considered, despite the pained face he usually has at the finish line, we're pretty sure Simon loves parkrun.

23.01.2022 A reminder that there is no parkrun tomorrow, Saturday 3rd July. Please do not meet at Sandon Point parkrun. The great thing about running and walking is that you can step out of your door, put another foot in front, then repeat and away you go!

23.01.2022 What did you do this morning to cope with the temporary loss of our beloved Sandon Point parkrun? RD Amy ran to an orange tree she discovered the other day Keep an eye out on this Facebook page for an update during the week regarding next weekend. If we are able to go ahead (pending changes to the restrictions), it is out Kids Take Over week! https://www.facebook.com/events/314519893665133... We will still need some more volunteers, so please email us at [email protected] if you have an under 18 year old who wants to be part of the team in charge. We'd like to ensure the volunteer roster is ready to go in case we receive a very last-minute green light.

21.01.2022 You might have already assumed it, but we can confirm we will not be parkrunning this weekend, 3rd July. We know you will be sad, we know there might be tears; But remember we coped for months and months in 2020; This is only one or two weeks, not years and years.... Please do not congregate at Sandon Point this weekend, Tempting as it may be; Explore your local streets with a friend, You never know what you might see.

18.01.2022 Has anyone tried Strava art around the Wollongong region yet? We'd love to see what creations you can come up with! https://blog.parkrun.com/au/2020/07/30/our-strava-art-star/

18.01.2022 Remember to check-in before you come or at the event

18.01.2022 Event#361 We welcomed back 221 very happy participants to Sandon Point this morning after some 9 months hiatus. Many thanks parkrun global, national & local for getting us back operating, we truly appreciate all the behind the scenes work. The communications and energy during the 9 months was impressive.... Thankyou to our outstanding vollies this morning & thankyou to all the participants who respected the new processes and recommendations we instigated for health reasons. If anybody wishes to volunteer for next week please email in. Check out the photos posted this week.

18.01.2022 Sandon Point #386 Congratulations to all who braved the conditions this morning - 93 parkrunners and an amazing 16 volunteers. We had one tough first timer and two people who must love strong winds who managed PBs today. At least the rain held off for us! Please keep those volunteer offers coming in for the next few weeks - we really can't do it without you

17.01.2022 In the lead-up to our 7th Anniversary, we've taken a tour of the Run Directors who have been part of Sandon Point parkrun since its birth. But of course, they are only one person (separately). They contribute an incredible amount to parkrun, but couldn't do it without the ever-present and passionate commitment of the 573 people who have ever volunteered their time at our event. We love the cheers and the high fives. You're there on nice sunny days, but you also stick it out o...n the horrible windy and wet days. Each and every one of you is appreciated immensely. Thank you. thank you, thank you

17.01.2022 Hello fellow parkrunners. We have lots of space on the volunteer roster for this coming Saturday (19th June) - which means that we need loads more volunteers - for just about every position (except tail walker). Please respond to this post if you would like to help out. We look forward to helping you towards that lovely purple volunteer shirt!

16.01.2022 Renowned for his bunny suit, ex-Run and Event Director Tom was a crucial part of the Sandon Point team from 2014-2019. He reached a neat 200 runs at Sandon Point with a total of 253 runs across 38 unique parkrun locations and 68 recorded volunteer occasions before COVID-19. Never shying away from an opportunity to dress up (including in his wife's leather jacket), but outstripping his 250 run sign, we are very appreciative of his leadership and patience in training up new recruit RDs.

16.01.2022 Next up in our Run Director Spotlight we have Adam. Adam was also there from the early days in 2013, stepping down from the RD role in 2016. It took him a while, but he finally reached his 100th run milestone only 2 events before COVID-19 caused parkrun to be cancelled. Phew! Just in time. We all love our parkrun family but setting up his own family might rightly have taking priority along the way.... Thanks for everything you've done, including at least a half century of volunteer occasions!

16.01.2022 How did you go with RD Michael's parkrun name anagrams this week? RD Amy stormed through #3 but has had trouble reaching the finish line on any of the others! Check out the other fun and games (parkrun Quiz, School of parkrun) in your weekly email, or by following parkrun Australia on their socials

16.01.2022 Congratulations to the 249 parkrunners and especially to the 13 volunteers who braved the wet and soggy conditions this morning. We had 26 first timers today, and 34 PBs so the conditions must have suited some! There are no participant photos today as we didn't have a photographer - but check out these guys with our lovely new map. We are already looking good for volunteers for next week (though there are still a couple of vacancies) but there is plenty of room in the weeks ...after that for more. See you next week.

16.01.2022 Boxing day 2020, we are back.

13.01.2022 Are you finding it hard knowing what day of the week it is without having parkrunday as a marker? That's not the only thing that is scrambled! A little known fact about our RD Michael is that he's a word puzzle creator extraordinaire. Check out the parkrun name anagram puzzles at the bottom of this week's newsletter from parkrun Australia. How many can you unscramble (no Googling allowed!)

11.01.2022 Happy 7th Birthday to us! We hope you got out for a run or walk around your neighbourhood this morning, remembering to keep left your dog on a short leash and to return your finish token While we couldn't celebrate it with you in the usual fashion, we've enjoyed looking back over the years and remembering the friendships formed.... We'd love to hear your "parkrun moment". Comment below with a fond memory or a favourite photo that tells the story of why you love Sandon Point parkrun

09.01.2022 We're all set to go tomorrow for parkrun. We have a full volunteer roster and what is forecast to be a perfect sunny Saturday morning. * Just a reminder to have a read through the COVID-19 Walker & Runner Code posted above, and to scan in with the Service NSW app when you're there. * There will be a first-timers and visitors briefing at 7:50am near the map banner at the finishing line, followed by the main briefing at 7:55am, and a parkrun start at 8am. Be sure to bring y...our 'printed' barcode as well to get your result. See you all tomorrow.

08.01.2022 Hello parkrunners. As far as we know, we are still on for this Saturday (2nd Jan) - we haven't heard anything to the contrary! However, we still need a few more marshalls and one more barcode scanner. Please let us know if you can help out.

08.01.2022 With 10 days until our 7th Anniversary, we're sending a "cheers" to past Run Director, Megan. Megan was well known for her passion for dressing up, not only against the cold but also in costumes that would bring a smile to your dial. With a tidy 140 runs and 24 volunteer occasions under her belt, we haven't seen Megan at a parkrun for at least a couple of years now after the allure of the trails captured her, but we trust she's still out there putting one foot in front of the other. We doff our hats (or crazy clown wigs) to you, Megan.

08.01.2022 What a wonderful community we have! Thank you to all those who volunteered today. The roster is now full . This fantastic event could not happen without all of us making it happen. Please let our volunteers know your appreciation on the day.

08.01.2022 Flashback Friday and it's time for the next spotlight on a past Run Director. Since starting parkrun in 2014, Cherie has an amazing 214 runs across and 72 recorded volunteer occasions. Since passing the RD baton onto our new recruits in 2019, Cherie (and David) have been embracing the chance to travel to many other locations, having completed 38 different courses. Behind the scenes, Cherie dedicated much time to parkrun, including sewing custom design bags for the equipment in our kit (and fabulous themed costumes), and learning many of the parkrun rules and guidelines. Cherie is never too out of breath to give each and every volunteer a sincere thank you. But today, thanks from all of us goes to you, Cherie.

07.01.2022 @parkrun is releasing a series of great little videos on the different volunteers roles you can participate in on Saturday mornings. First up is barcode scanning. Show of hands if you like this role https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsvIKmBZwpc

06.01.2022 Natalie was one of the new recruits that came on board when Tom, Cherie and David stepped out the of the Run Director role in 2019. She's completed 155 parkruns in 24 different locations including the tongue-twisters of Pakapakanthi and Futakotamagawa! Always a huge fan of the dress ups, Natalie must have a room in her house entirely dedicated to crazy hats (we really should have included a photo of her in these crazy hats). Thanks, Natalie - and can't wait to have you back on board when we're up and running again.

06.01.2022 Hello parkrunners. Please read this entire post as it contains important information. parkrun is still all systems go this weekend. We need three more volunteers for barcode scanning, and another 2-3 marshals. Please write to us at [email protected] if that is you. COVID information: ... 1. Please remember it is most important that you stay away if you are not feeling well. Get tested and stay at home. parkrun will always be there next weekend when you are feeling better! 2. As per the NSW Government's requirements, except for when participating in strenuous physical exercise, a person MUST WEAR A MASK over both the person’s nose and mouth while attending a COVID-safe outdoor gathering. 3. Point #2 about masks also applies to volunteers. 4. Observe travel restrictions. 5. Don't forget to check in using the QR codes before, at, or after the event.

06.01.2022 Inhale, release...breathe. We're sad to say it will be another week without parkrun, BUT you can do it! Remember, grab a friend and explore somewhere new. There is lots to see when you move at a slower pace through somewhere you might drive. Pick a direction and follow streets you've never gone on before - do some pretend real estate shopping. Wave at a stranger as you pass by. Smile.... Inhale, release...breathe. This also means we will be postponing our 'Kids Take Over parkrun' event that was meant to happen this weekend. You will be sure to hear about it when we settle on a new date.

06.01.2022 It seems the riddle on the weekend may have been a bit too challenging so we'll give you a massive hint. In less than two weeks now, Sandon Point parkrun has its 7th anniversary! We're very sad that we won't be able to celebrate that with you by running our stunning course, so in the lead-up we're going to give a shout-out to those who have dedicated many hours behind the scenes to make every one of our 360 events possible. Kicking off where it all began, with Nikki Mccarthy ...Hicks. Back on the 1st June 2013, Nikki was one of three volunteers who recorded 39 runners coming across the finish line. Nikki has slowly ticked off 139 parkruns in various locations, and has 172 official volunteer occasions registered. Wow! Beck Costelloe was there with Nikki from year 1, but we couldn't find any photos of her from the archives. Perhaps because she only has one recorded run, but an impressive 76 volunteer occasions. Thanks to the two of them for planting the seed that has grown into something wonderful at Sandon Point. See more

06.01.2022 What did you do this morning on #notparkrunday? A) B)

05.01.2022 Amy first started her parkrun life back in September 2014. As a young(er) and single lady, she was convinced it would be a great place to meet young fit guys. Imagine her surprise when she turned up that first week to find a dearth of young fit guys and lots of "dads" and mums with prams. And she hasn't looked back since! She loves every aspect of it. Amy became a Run Director in 2016 and accepted the invitation to follow in Tom's shoes as Event Director when he stepped down... in 2019. She's got 185 runs and 74 volunteers occasions under her belt and couldn't imagine any better way to start a weekend. Known for cycling to and from Sandon Point to get to parkrun in gale-force winds and pouring rain, it might be fair to say she's addicted. Not only to the running, but to the community. Accepted despite her questionable passion for dressing up in silly costumes, and trusted enough to steal other people's kids in their prams. Look, I'm going to break protocol and switch into first person here. I wanted to thank everyone who is part of our Sandon Point parkrun family. Everyone plays their part. It doesn't matter if you are a runner, a walker or a volunteer, or some combination of all those. Without any one of them, parkrun wouldn't be parkrun. I want to extend even greater thanks to the Run Directors we've reflected on over the past week. The current event team make my role as Event Director a literal walk in the park. We don't have to put effort into Sandon Point - it simplyis. I'm sure this time apart from what had become our Saturday morning ritual has made us appreciate it even more. But even though we can't meet for an 8am trot around our scenic course, I've still been crossing paths with so many familiar faces and it makes me feel grounded and a real part of the Wollongong community. I can't wait to see you all again at the hut for the ringing of the cowbell.

04.01.2022 What do these three things have in common? We trust you've been enjoying the quizzes, puzzles, emoji tests and School of parkrun from parkrun Australia. Now we have a riddle of our own for you, exclusive to Sandon Point parkrun. Do you know what links these three images?

04.01.2022 What a difference from last week Hoping you laced up those sneakers and got out there for some sunshine and now kicking back catching up on The Great Big parkrun Quiz, the School of parkrun, or a phone call coffee date with a parkrunbuddy.

03.01.2022 The Run Director countdown has now brought us to a point where we are up to the current event team. First off the ranks is Kevin. Kevin began parkrunning at event #9, and took to the RD role in 2017. With 198 runs and 65 volunteer occasions, he's been there through it all - the sunny days, and the worst weather conditions remembered at our 3rd Anniversary. Always forward thinking and cool as a cucumber, Kevin was fundamental to training up the batch of new RD recruits in 2019. We admire the dedication of not only Kevin, but often his family members who get enlisted as part of his volunteer crew, seemingly on days that often end up wet and windy.

03.01.2022 (not)parkrun is here! Make sure you check out this week's email newsletter or the link here to read all about it.

02.01.2022 You might recognise the location, and perhaps some of the faces but this was no ordinary running occasion at Sandon Point. On the weekend, a [what you might call crazy, but we prefer the term "passionate"] group of runners participated in the informal "Longest Run" event. This involved 5km runs following the parkrun courses (or slight adaptations) at 7 locations: Campbelltown, Camden, Picton, Bowral, Shellharbour, North Wollongong and finishing off at Sandon Point... Well done to those who participated and massive round of applause to anyone who did all 35kms!
