21.01.2022 It's Tuesday so it's time for us to put some spotlight on road safety with our weekly #TACTUESDAY This week we are focusing on Drink Driving. In the 5 years before 1987, more than 110 drivers and motorcycle riders who lost their lives each year had a BAC greater than 0.05g/100ml. This has reduced to an average of 28 drivers and riders who lost their lives each year with a BAC greater than 0.05g/100ml from 2011-2015. In 2016, there were 34 drivers and riders who lost their l...ives with a BAC greater than 0.05g/100ml. The proportion of drivers and motorcycle riders who lost their lives with a BAC greater than 0.05g/100ml has declined from 38% in 1987 to 19% in 2016. Since 1997, Victoria Police have breath tested more than 24 million drivers and riders from Booze Bus operations, catching more than 75,000 drivers and riders with an illegal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) during this period. The vast majority (99.7%) of drivers tested do not exceed their legal blood alcohol levels, however, in the last 5 years, close to 1 in 5 drivers and riders who lost their lives had a BAC greater than 0.05. Head to https://www.tac.vic.gov.au//summa/drink-driving-statistics to see more information and statistics about Drink Driving. Lets help and get towards Zero and remember if you drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot. Transport Accident Commission (TAC) AFL Victoria

01.01.2022 RECOVERY TIP - Follow R.I.C.E to quickly and effectively manage your acute injuries. 1) REST - immobilize the injured area. This reduces the amount of small ve...ssel bleeding, tissue damage and allows quicker recovery. 2) ICE - apply to the injured area for 20min, every 2hours for 48-72 hours. This reduces blood flow, swelling, pain, muscle spasm and prevents any secondary damage to the area. 3) COMPRESS - apply a firm wide compression bandage including above and below the injured part. Keep on at all times, except when icing. This causes blood vessel constriction reducing bleeding and swelling. 4) ELEVATE - Where possible, it is important to elevate the injured limb above the level of the heart at all times. This reduces the swelling and small vessel bleeding in the area. When in doubt, speak with your Physioworks physio to ensure you are taking the right precautions to get back to your best!
