25.01.2022 10 years ago today, history was made in Australia ... the National Apology helped healed a lot of heartache for our Elders and Ancestors. 10 years ago, my dad told me about his journey as a young boy and his connection with the National Apology. My heart was heavy as he showed me the government letters and documents, its a secret he kept for over 70 years. Out of respect for his mum and older sister, he waited until the time was right to tell his only child ... this happened 2 weeks before the National Apology. I cannot start to imagine the anxiety he would of gone through to tell me what had happened to him, his brothers and sisters and parents. I am so sorry you experienced this deplorable act Dad, I love you and miss you. God Bless. Always A Proud Quandamooka Man.

22.01.2022 I have to say I am overwhelmed by the phone calls, text messages, FB messages, emails and social media comments on this years 10th anniversary of the Black Bold and Beautiful Womens Luncheon and for the support of BBB to continue. Our community have the most inspiring and empowering women who need to be acknowledged and congratulated on their achievements which at times, did not come easy and that is what BBB is about acknowledging, engaging, empowering and informing. The s...upport and love from my family from the start of BBB in 2009 is everything to me, but for those who are behind the scenes your support has been immeasurable and I cant thank you enough. You know I love you and appreciate the time you have given freely to see BBB presented to the community our way thank you Mandy Tedeschi, Sharon Dale, Annie Lea, Roberta Monaghan and Robyn Lea. There is also one lady who helped lift BBB to another level and that woman is Elaine Chambers who did the amazing artwork and graphic design on all my calendars, audition and luncheon posters. Thank you to our sponsors, #IUIH #DATSIP, Positive Social Solutions, Department Child Safety, Youth and Women, Brisbane City Council and the support and partnership with #IBA. Thank you to all our exhibitors. #VirginAustralia #QLDAntiDiscrimination #2018WOWfestivalbrisbane #QLDOfficeforWomen #LynAlDesigns #Jarawee #Paperbarkwoman #Blakdance #CulturalEdgeDesigns #PositiveSocialSolutions #BrisbaneCityCouncil #IUIH #IndigenousBusinessAustralia #ToniPhillipsPetersen See more

21.01.2022 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander News Readers on mainstream television, where are you? The need to see more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander newsreaders on mainstream television is so important, for they are at the forefront of changing attitudes and perceptions of our people daily. Conversations/debates on mainstream television rely on non-indigenous personalities to discuss what is right for us, why is that so, are they scared to have an Indigenous person discuss ...the topic of the day or issues of importance to.us. Why dont we see more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reading the nightly or morning news? What is the problem? QLDs first Indigenous newsreader on mainstream television is Rubena Colbey/Anderson Rubena is one of our guest speakers at the 2018 Black Bold & Beautiful Womens Luncheon, Brisbane, 7th March 2018. Tickets on sale, Qtix.com.au or Phone 136 246. See more

15.01.2022 BACK IN THE DAY. Just put together a little snippet of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander models from the 90s who were known as the entertainers of the catwalk/runway. The fashions were from Yurundaili Aboriginal Creations and we were at the opening of the 2nd largest cotton warehouse in the world known as Collyfarms in the mid 90s. I had to change the perceptions of our models and our fashions back then by presenting entertaining fashion parades. The models were so deadly and stylish even when they were dancing and walking to the fast beat of the music.

10.01.2022 Being interviewed on TV is so hard for me, especially with being a stutterer. Look closer and you will see my head tilt to the left to control my breathing as I was about to stutter. This time was extra difficult as the taxi I travelled in, drove off with my briefcase with all my fashion parade info!! The Darling Harbour staff rang the company while I did the interview and when I finished my briefcase was there!!! Apologies to my Torres Strait Islander family/friends as this was back in the 90s. Go the curls Sandra!!! These guys were just brilliant and they had style to boot.

05.01.2022 If you are unsure about modelling in the Black Bold & Beautiful Fashion Parades ... do not worry. I had 8 girls model in last years parade who had no experience and I do like to have girls who are shy and reserved because the parade is about lifting the spirits of our models and community. Here are some of them and they did a fantastic job.

04.01.2022 Since I was a teenager (70s) ... nude or skin tone makeup and underwear has always been an issue with me. I forever and ever had to say to the shop assistants my skin tone and the look on their faces was always priceless!
