23.01.2022 Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting at the Women in Mining and Resources Leaders Summit on preventative mental health initiatives that extend beyond R U ok day and #mentalhealth training. It’s all about focussing on workplace factors that prevent people from getting harmed in the first place. It’s called #psychosocial risks. This is the bread and butter of organisational psychologists. We focus on the organisation, team and individual levels and the integration of all three. If you’re interested to know more, let’s do coffee. 2021 is looking pretty clear for a few soy flat whites although I’m quite liking oat milk too. Picture: Of the event but that’s not me at the front, because I’m taking the picture, at the back

21.01.2022 Asking for help isn’t giving up, it’s refusing to give up. It’s knowing that it’s important enough to enlist all the support you can muster because it matters, because you matter, for them and for you. #selfcare #notalone #seekstrength #seekhelp

20.01.2022 People who know me know I'm a fan of podcasts and my new favourite is the excellent and much needed Psych Health and Safety Podcast from FlourishDx. Needless to say, I was a little stoked to be asked to contribute next week on episode #9. Listen and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts. Thank you to Jason van Schie and Joelle Mitchell for having me on and allowing me to share my perspectives on psychological health and safety in the FIFO industry.

20.01.2022 Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of facilitating a #helpinghands Program for the #riotinto #peersupport network, where 60 people changed 14 lives. There is nothing more rewarding than giving your teams a mental health boost by making a difference together. Comments received included that was through the roof, best thing I’ve ever done THAT was amazing. So if you want to combine team building with changing lives, get in touch. In a year that has been tumultuous to ...say the least, ending it with activities that contribute to something bigger than ourselves, provides priceless perspective. Thank you #mentalhealthmatters #team #inspiration #teamwork #giveback #thankyou #gratitude

17.01.2022 Returning from site, one of the biggest tips I would give people who are not their best self up there is to expand their perspectives. Of course, each and every person I spoke to experienced something real, raw and unique and there is no magic solution but perspective was a big factor in unblocking their journey. Change perspectives on what you can control and only focus on things you can. Change perspectives on what you are expecting of yourself and be self compassio...nate. It’s ok to feel sad and to miss loved ones. Change perspectives on what you expect of the FIFO life and learn that these phases are normal and with the right help and habits, you can get through it all. Change perspectives on what you deserve because if you don’t like who you are changing in to, you are probably not in the right supportive environment. Change your perspective about whether you should seek help because people like us are there for you. So why not take advantage of that? #fifolife #fiforelfections #fifomentalhealth #fifopsychologist

14.01.2022 I will be joining the faculty of speakers at the 2nd Annual Women in Mining & Resources Leadership Summit, which will be held in Perth from 30 November to 2 December 2020. Will I see you there? There will be a range of topics covered so I’m excited to learn from others and to share what I know about preventative mental health, strategies to improve wellbeing in the workplace, and responding to the DMIRS Code of Practice.

13.01.2022 I love this phrase. I can’t remember who said it but it’s a great reminder that we shouldn’t limit our perspectives and therefore new experiences, based on a fixed belief. It’s liberating to not be trapped in the ridiculous pursuit of perfection. #letitgo #learningeveryday #growth #resilience #rethinkeverything #authenticpsychologist

12.01.2022 Thank you to all the attendees of the mental health first aid course this week! The feedback received was excellent. If you know any FIFO organisations who want to top up their number of mental health first aiders, or want to test whether it’s training they’d consider rolling out to site, please send them our way. We are running our final course for the year on the 9-10 December. Spaces are limited for improved interactions and learning so it will be first in best dressed.

06.01.2022 At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we forget.

03.01.2022 Gosh life can get messy and when this happens, it’s so easy to be overwhelmed. Where do you start? What do you do? We find that a good way to ground yourself is through a reminder of your purpose and also knowing your strengths. It was nice to see the intensity of thinking that participants displayed on the training last week. It’s awesome when we remember our character strengths when the going gets tough. #valuesinaction #reflections #stressandresilience #authenticpsychologist #coaching

03.01.2022 Such a good day. Glad to be spending our Friday listening, learning, connecting and collaborating

01.01.2022 What if we saw happiness differently? Like something more real, achievable and sustainable? Rather than seeing happiness as the way a dictionary defines it (a state of pleasure and contentment, which is an ever moving beast), we can choose to see it as being on the journey towards our objectives and purpose in life. And with this, comes pleasure and pain. Both of which are necessary, in the same way that it takes both sunshine and rain to make a rainbow. Thanks Dr Russ Harris. #happiness #ponderings #letgo #authenticpsychologist
