19.01.2022 State Cross-Country Championships The Victorian State Government recently announced a further easing of COVID-19 restrictions from the 22nd June, paving the way for the resumption of childrens sporting competition. LAVic is currently waiting on further detailed advice from Sport & Recreation Victoria on this. In the meantime, LAVic is pleased to announce that the State Cross-Country Championships will be now be held on Saturday 22nd August at Lake Dewar Lodge, Myrniong. The ...qualification will be by direct entry, and the event will also include a Virtual State Cross-Country Relay. All other details, inclusive of the registration portal, will be released in coming days. 16.01.2022 In times where we are all dealing with relentless changing environments and uncertainties - we wanted to share some genuinely good news... "we are getting a new athletics track!". The Bayside City Council recently approved and announced the successful community submission to redevelop the track at Glamis Avenue. The current track was built in 1997 and is a significant asset to the Bayside Community. It is highly utilised by all ages from varying community groups and in great... need of an overhaul to continue supporting the health and well-being of its users, as well as benefit our community growth and experience. We are extremely excited with this announcement and would like to thank the many contributors and supporters from the community as part of the submission process. In addition, we would also like to acknowledge and thank the team from the Bayside City Council in particularly Mayor Clarke Martin, Deputy Mayor Rob Grinter along with Damien Van Trier Manager Open Space, Recreation & Wellbeing for their leadership and collaborative support throughout the process. The project is well underway and construction is hopeful to commence later in the year. As we wait for further clarification regarding the upcoming season in the interium we will continue to operate at Glamis Avenue until construction begins and then we will relocate temporarily to a neighbouring club. The Club will continue to keep you updated with all developments as information comes to hand via our newsletters. 06.01.2022 On Saturday, we had our last competition at the Centre for the year. There is State relays next week and no competition at Sandringham. We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we hope that you have learned through the first part of the season, made some friends and look forward to improving those PBs come January 18 at Dendy Park as we compete with our friends from Brighton LAC. If you are in the Under 9 to 16 and are interested in the State Multi Event Championships, please head to the LA Vic website to enter (closes 14th January, 11.59pm).

Congratulations to Kelsey Lee-Barber, new World Champion in Javelin and to all our team including Sandringham Athletics Clubs own Henry Smith who competed in the LJ. Great news yesterday about Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia joining to build One Athletics in a joint venture to... bring the sport together. A quick well done to one of our Under 16 athletes, Tom Marriott and one Under 15 athletes Jake Donaldson, who joined several of their fellow Victorians at the AIS this week for a camp to continue to improve their skills.
