23.01.2022 This Saturday morning an amazing repatriation journey is set to begin... For 22 days, a groove stone will be transported in a 'rockshaw' for 500km from Brisbane to Iman Country. The support so far has been incredible from walkers, supporters and donors, however the team is still looking for fit, single-day walkers, especially from the 5th to the 9th of July. So if you'd like to walk this important Iman Cultural Heritage home to Country along the scenic Brisbane Valley Rail... Trails, head to www.staroftaroom.com.au to sign on. Of course everyone is invited to come out to Taroom on the 24th of July and walk the final 4-5km from the racetrack into town. The walk will culminate with the @staroftaroom's ceremonial welcome home to Iman Country and the opening of the new Wardingarri Keeping Place at the @taroommuseum. Afterwards the Iman Elders and Taroom Community are hosting a huge NAIDOC celebration of cultural activities, tucker, music and stalls. 22.01.2022 Did you know that Wowan takes its name from the Aboriginal word meaning bush turkey? This statue of a bush turkey, also known as a scrub turkey or brush turkey, can be found at the Wowan Museum, which also houses hundreds of artefacts from a time when Wowan was the dairy capital of the region! Wowan is on the Leichhardt Highway south west of Rockhampton and the museum is open by appointment. The heritage-listed Greycliffe Homestead is the closest reminder the region has to home life on a pastoral station in the 1870's. Beautiful Betsy, a WWII Liberator bomber vanished on a routine flight between Darwin and Brisbane in 1945. The fate of the bomber and the eight lives on board was not known until a park ranger spotted the wreckage in 1994.
