25.01.2022 Dear SBIS families, I am thrilled to announce that I have been notified today by Learning Services that I was the successful nominee in the recent selection process for the role of Acting Principal of Sandy Bay Infant School for 2021. Thank you all for your support and kindness throughout 2020. We have flourished as a result of working together and looking after each other. I am so looking forward to working alongside you all and our amazing staff again in 2021 to help our ...children wonder, learn and grow at our small school by the sea. Happy holidays, Michelle De Paoli See more

24.01.2022 Technology is wonderful and when used for its intended purpose, it is to be celebrated. We promote and model safe and responsible use of technology at our infant school. Please click on the link for an excellent resource published by The Office of the eSafety Commissioner.

24.01.2022 Today we say a heartfelt farewell to some very special families. You will always be a part of our small school by the sea family. See you all in sunglasses for the guard of honour this afternoon.

22.01.2022 Thank you Ruth and Gina for our Grade 1/2 incursion from Hydro Tasmania on the water cycle, sources of electricity and sustainability to deepen our inquiry understanding. We are already seeing across the school actions being taken as a result of our learning. A huge thank you.

22.01.2022 As the curtain closes on the most amazing week of musicals...we say thank you to all our performers for being absolute stars. Miss J, Selina and Heather, Greg, Claire...a brilliant finale. Thank you.

22.01.2022 Congratulations to the kinder team on their first foray into the land of musicals with a very cute matinee performance today. Followed by an evening performance from Prep who shone brightly as they moved, grooved, sung and spoke beautifully on stage. We continue to be moved by the confidence the students show and the skills and sense of belonging they develop through our whole school musical and sustainability inquiry. Rach, Melissa, Megan, Melanie.... thank you. Thank you to all our families who supported us tonight. Grade 1... only one more sleep.

17.01.2022 Our partnership with Lipscombe Child Care is very important to us. Today we were thrilled that the Nutgrove children could attend a live performance of our musical Eddie the Penguin . What an attentive and appreciative audience they were. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to Musical week. Our cast and crew are ready to wow audiences this week.

17.01.2022 Who would have imagined some boxes and crates in the playground would turn into a home for cougars and stimulated the most imaginative dramatic role play. Our prep students can tell you how. We are so proud of the way they can all explain their SBIS Learner Assets as they play together.

17.01.2022 Our kindergarten students are impressive self managers in Term 4! We couldn’t help but smile as they carried out their most amazing box creations, with one student carrying the box for another student as he retrieved his scooter from the bike rack. The imaginative play, caring attitudes and collaborative play is just beautiful. So much personal growth to celebrate. Well done Rach, Heather and Melanie and our parents/ families for supporting our kinder children to flourish in 2020.

17.01.2022 Our teachers love learning and are huge Ron Ritchart fans so they didn’t need convincing to pop into school for an early meeting yesterday to think about thinking. Our inquiry approach can only be enriched by learning more about how we can explicitly teach the language of cognition and meta cognition. Our SBIS Learner Assets are a fabulous example of our teachers embracing this key practice. The vocabulary our students are building each day is to be celebrated. Did you know the word ‘think’ is the 12th most commonly used verbs in English. Our staff brainstormed alternative words for think and created a word cloud. We had great fun learning alongside each other.

17.01.2022 Wishing our grade 1 and 1/2 teams the best time on their excursions today to TMAG and the Botanical Gardens as they dig deeper into their inquiry. Enjoy the wonderful freedom we have to explore Hobart. Don’t forget our SunSmart policy and bring your hats. Thank you to our staff for their attention to detail in organising this wonderful learning opportunity.

17.01.2022 Congratulations Grade 1/2 on the premiere of Eddie Saves the World Multi Modal Musical 2020. Tash, Megan and their super talented, courageous and joyous performers...we are all so proud of you. Thank you to AJ , Claire and Greg for being the best crew tonight. We can’t wait to see more smiling faces tomorrow at the kinder and prep performances. We are so grateful for all the visitors completing their health checks in advance and being so incredibly respectful of the physical distancing rules, it made the night run like a dream. THANK YOU.

12.01.2022 Life is better when we find something to look forward to. Find ways to stay hopeful and focus on what matters during #OptimisticOctober. Here are some suggestions for each day via Action for Happiness...

12.01.2022 Today is Indigenous Literacy Day and this year, due to COVID-19 everyone can attend their virtual event on their YouTube channel https://bit.ly/2X8Hytq We lov...e supporting literacy and include books in all our clothing bundles, toy packs and nappy bags anywhere we can sneak them in! Right now we are low on baby board books but thankfully very well stocked for other reading ages.

12.01.2022 The stage is set, projector up, new big screen installed, location shoots and filming complete...and the final edits are being made to our 2020 movie musical by film director Greg. It has been an absolute joy watching our students develop in confidence as they practice their songs and lines alongside our dedicated staff. We look forward to welcoming our families to our Covid safe multi media musical performances next week.

12.01.2022 As our staff devour the books that were growing dusty on their bedside tables this holidays we are also curious about next term's book week celebration. What wild and curious book characters have inspired you or was it the setting or storyline that you thought was wild? What will you dress up in? We look forward to celebrating our love of reading, sharing all the Early Childhood and Younger Readers shortlisted titles with you and having fun dressing up for our dress up day o...n Wednesday 21st October 2020. Parents are welcome to form (@1.5m) a line along the driveway at Dance and Drop to welcome all the characters (students) along with staff who will all be at Dance and Drop...however, you may not recognise them. Let's use our Learner Assets of researcher, thinker, communicator and connector to make our 2020 Book Week another whole school celebration to remember. Remember our whole school value of Respect- respect for the environment, if you can be creative and sustainable we will have even more reason to celebrate.

11.01.2022 Thank you Ben for organising a successful meeting for our Taroona Coalition Administration staff. We are so grateful for the additional work the departments admin staff have done during 2020 and the respectful and calm way you have handled uncertainty. Ben you are a fabulous host, best chef and admin support. It was so nice to see Margaret from Albuera and the team from WHPS who we work closely with.

11.01.2022 Friday is Free Dress Day for Bonorong Wildlife Park. Please bring a gold coin donation to support our student driven initiative-one of the actions taken as a result of our science and sustainability whole school inquiry. What a wonderful way to end a successful term of teaching and learning.

07.01.2022 Grade 1/2’s class novel came to life on Friday. I wonder if you can guess which Roald Dahl book they were reading this term?

05.01.2022 We are thinkers, self managers, collaborators, communicators and risk takers as we play together. The creativity and collaboration seen in the playground in term 4 is to be celebrated.

05.01.2022 Please submit survey answers online or hand in to our office by Friday. We appreciate you taking the time to communicate your thoughts.

05.01.2022 Help us keep an eye on schools over the holiday break. Let’s work together to help create a safer school community. #LearnersFirst #TasGovEducation #SchoolWatch #CrimeStoppers

05.01.2022 Smile. It’s school photo day!

04.01.2022 Values certificates are given out at Sandy Bay Infant School when we see a student go above and beyond to achieve a goal or demonstrate our values. Yesterday two prep students shared their puppet theatre they had made for another student after noticing that their peer enjoyed using the five little ducks puppets that Heather had made. Acts of kindness, collaboration, inclusion and creativity such as this should be shouted from the roof top! Other students have been recognised for amazing growth in learning.

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Melissa, Megan, Andrea and our amazing researchers and communicators our young biologists our Prep students. We all loved visiting your Animal Discovery Centre, your passion for your chosen animal and habitat creations were awe inspiring. What confident and capable learners.
