20.01.2022 Golden Rod oh how I love you. Your gifts are so numerous and given generously. Once the frenzy of fresh plant tincture season is over, I move into making medicine with the material that had been put aside to dry. Litres of infused oil for balm have been macerating and just this week I strained a batch of Apple & Golden Rod Bitters. Golden Rod is a warming, aromatic carminitive in its own right but combined with other warming digestives and the fruity sweetness of organic apples, it has offered up its goodness as a gorgeous gift for the gut.

It is difficult to find the words that express my gratitude to those who have trusted me as a fellow traveller on their journey to health. And it is even more difficult to express my gratitude to the plants that make it all possible. Rejoice - at the wonder of it all!!

10.01.2022 A couple of cooler nights in the past few weeks have sweetened up the mandarins on our tree and they are now ripe and ready to provide dual benefits as food and medicine. We all know that fresh citrus is a reasonable source of natural Vitamin C, but did you know that the white pith and the peel of citrus fruits also provides nutrients and health benefits? The pith of citrus - the white bit between the fruit and the peel - is a source of bioflavonoids which help to strengthen ...blood vessels and increase the uptake of Vitamin C by the body. In traditional Chinese medicine the peel of tangerines is aged to produce Chen Pi. Citrus peel is a warming and drying aromatic digestive remedy indicated in bloating and belching, nausea and vomiting. 10.01.2022 Fresh medicine. Local organic beetroot and ginger delivered an hour ago by @singingfarmerorganics already transforming into a bench top ferment. I rarely use supplemental probiotics, preferring instead to cultivate the microbiome through wild ferments and prebiotic foods. When using local, fresh organic veges I also resist heavy washing and peeling in an attempt to encourage microbial diversity. How do you nurture your microbiome?
