25.01.2022 Please note that our meeting time has changed to this Tuesday 6:30 pm. Apologies for the late notice.

24.01.2022 Great news today, you can get back skiing from 11:59pm Friday 1 May although general COVID-19 rules will still apply to who you can have in the boat and how many people are gathering on the river bank. Remember your social distancing on the boat ramps and pack your hand sanitiser. Although ... it’s pity that the cold weather is moving in this weekend but you may all be a bit tougher than I am

22.01.2022 In case you missed it ...

19.01.2022 We have today received confirmation that Sandy Hook/ Ben Anderson Barrage is closed until further notice. Refer to the following message from SunWater and their post below. Currently, all Sunwater dams and recreation areas have been closed effective today. We understand that recreation in and around our storages plays an important role in the community, but right now we must do all that we can to discourage travel and public gatherings. Yesterday’s announcement follows the Q...ueensland Government directive to close campgrounds, state forests and state-managed recreation and protected areas in response to the COVID-19 health crisis. From today, our recreation areas, dams, lakes and weirs are closed to public use. This includes day trips, camping, all land and water-based activities and our on-site facilities. We appreciate you may want further information, therefore please refer to the Australian Government Coronavirus website ...

13.01.2022 Great to see some dedicated club members undertaking a fist aid course today. In the event of an emergency it brings comfort knowing that there are some trained members available to help until emergency services arrive. Thanks to First Aid Response for tailoring the course to suit our love of the water. The Queensland Government provided funding to Sandy Hook Ski Club to purchase a defibrillator and deliver first aid training to enable Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.

11.01.2022 With the continued dry weather and lowering water level we ask that everyone take notice of this message from SunWater and most importantly, stay safe.

10.01.2022 Great day down at the river for our 3 lane challenge!

09.01.2022 In response to the unprecedented and evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Sandy Hook Ski Club (SHSC) is today taking further measures to protect the health of our members, volunteers and the wider community: - The 3 Lane Challenge event scheduled for 4 April has been cancelled . - The tentative booking for 18 April is cancelled. - The Barefoot Figure 8 Challenge scheduled for 23 May is likely to be postponed.... The clubhouse will remain closed between now and 30 April at which time the situation will be reassessed. While no cases of COVID-19 have been detected within our member community, SHSC is taking this action as a further precaution and in consideration of the developing situation. Our number one priority is the health and well being of our community. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation and monitoring the advice of the federal and state governments and health authorities. Thank you for your understanding, and should you have any concerns please call.

03.01.2022 COVID-19 PUTS LEISURE BOATING AND FISHING ON HOLD Thought you could escape the coronavirus by grabbing the boat and heading out to sea for the day? Think aga...in. Maritime Safety Queensland has issued a new directive reminding boat owners that recreational boating for leisure is no longer permitted, following the new Federal Government directions around covid-19. "As from Sunday, 29 March Federal Government direction is that public gatherings are restricted to no more than two persons and that people should stay home unless they are shopping for essentials, receiving medical care, exercising or travelling to work or education," QMR general manager Angus Mitchell wrote in a statement. "This applies to all activities that are not specifically exempted boating is NOT." According to Transport Minister Mark Bailey, those using boats for essential travel to work or to get items from the shop, or those fishing to put food on the table for their families can still do so. Use of non-powered crafts for exercise, like canoeing, kayaking and surfing is also still permitted. According to Maritime Safety Queensland, authorities would be out on the water and at boat ramps ensuring the restrictions are being complied with. IN SUMMARY * No recreational boating for leisure due to covid-19. * Those who need to fish for food or need a boat to travel, are allowed to do so as an essential activity but no more than two people or immediate family members on board. * Non-powered boating activities for "essential exercise" is okay, as long as no more than two people together and maintaining social distancing. * Compliance officers will be out checking boaties are complying to new regulations.
