24.01.2022 STEM|EDUCATION MAGAZINE EDITOR'S REFLECTIONS: Dr Sandy’s reflections on Friday 2nd April 2021 as we wrap up editing Edition Two. As the editor of this professional magazine one of my visions or aims is to support and empower our profession. I could see our founder Fi Morrison had so much to offer with her presence on Twitter. We met in person in January 2021, and I wanted to support her in any way I could. I became the editor and aspired to be a supportive checker who embrac...Continue reading

20.01.2022 My Masters abstract written in 2007 Reread it as I am tap tap tapping on a book I have wanted to write for quite sometime. New book title: The Empires New Clothing: Is neo-liberalism the greates lie of all time? TITLE:... In the dawn of a new millennium education, globalisation, citizenship formation and questions concerning teacher accountability are notable players. Is Australia failing to secure a nation’s confidence in their teachers? ABSTRACT: Consequences of current education reform are forming pedagogic legacies in education institutions globally. Australia for example, has followed a neo-liberal government ideology for over 30 years. This has influenced policy and practice in education causing schools to move towards privatisation, increased competition, a user-pays system and an increase in teacher and teacher educator accountability. Conversely, governments of other nations such as Finland have taken on a more social-democratic ideal. Finland’s education system is underpinned by four key principles including good schools for all, education reform is evolutionary not revolutionary, schools are enmeshed in all aspects of society and respect for teachers as community leaders is high. Although, both nations performed well in the OECD PISA results of 2003, are they failing to secure a nations confidence in their teachers as community members? Will failure to support teachers influence a nation in terms of citizenship formation? Will this cause a misbalancing act within society interdependence and reciprocity within Australia? If so, what are the effects of rising teacher accountability in Australia in the twenty-first century? Comparative studies focusing upon nations who have chosen different government ideologies may offer new and fresh ideas to help overcome concerns with teacher morale, teacher retention and improve respect for teachers and teacher educators. ANSWER: YES Time for action

12.01.2022 A professor gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The professor then mixed all the balloons. The students were given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon. At that point the professor told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes everyone had their own balloon. The professor said to the students: These ballons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness....we'll find ours too. #thegenerosityculture #inspiration #linkedin
