22.01.2022 Thursday's Tip of the Week: Everyday Reading Opportunities It's important to find time to read with your kids to build literacy skills. There are many ways to make reading a part of each day even when you don't have time to sit down with a book. Reading opportunities are everywhere you go. While riding in the car/bus/train, for example, encourage your kids to spot words and letters (on billboards, store signs, etc.), turning it into a game ("Who'll be the first to find a le...tter B?"). While shopping, ask your child to "read" pictures on boxes and tell you about them. Point out the difference between the words and the pictures on the boxes. Encourage older kids to tell you what's on the shopping list. Even daily tasks like cooking can provide reading moments. You can read recipes aloud to younger kids, and older kids can assist you as you cook by telling you how much flour to measure. Give your child a catalogue to read while you sort through the mail. Most important, be a reader yourself. Kids who see their parents reading are likely to copy them and become readers too! See more

15.01.2022 Today some brave year 6 students volunteered to play a game of Oztag against some teachers, organised and refereed by one of our PE teachers Ms Mason. Teachers were confident they would show the students how it was done, but some referreeing decisions "didn't go their way . . ." In the end teachers came up just on top. A great time was had by students, teachers and spectators. Thank you all.
15.01.2022 Prep students got to explore surface tension this week in Jr Science. Food colouring was dropped into milk and with a cotton swab that had been dipped in dishwashing liquid and was placed into the colours. #### Milk has fat in it and the food colouring floats on top of the fat. The fat is all connected with bonds. Think of it like the little pieces of fat all holding hands with each other. Dishwashing liquids are used on greasy or oily dishes because it breaks the bonds in the fat allowing them to separate. When you add the dishwashing liquid to the milk, the fat separates and moves, making your magical milk art work.##

12.01.2022 Yesterday, a year 5 group of students participated in an Amazing Math Race. Teams had to find the answer to each problem before moving on to the next challenge. There was lots of enthusiasm and competitiveness! Students had to draw on their resilience skills when they were told their answer was incorrect. It was great to see how well the teams worked together and really strived to complete each challenge. The winning team was given the combination to unlock a box that was filled with 'gold coins'. What a fun afternoon!

08.01.2022 Fake Snow Grade 1 students got to explore surface tension this week in Jr Science. Students mixed shaving cream with cornflour, resulting in a smooth manageable product being produced that resembled snow. #The tiny pieces of corn flour get mixed into the shaving cream and suspended in the mixture. Shaving cream is made up of tiny bubbles, and the surface tension on the surface of the bubbles helps the cornflour particles when the two are mixed together.##
