24.01.2022 B/W Edited version of the Moon Halo

24.01.2022 After seeing photos from group who attended Denis Smith - Photographer tutorial which look totally awesome. I decided to spend a bit of time during the weekend to watch the #SchoolofLight videos. I thought I’ll give light painting ago with the Christmas light decoration.

23.01.2022 Enjoying a night dive with Vicki Marks at Rye Pier. Can’t believe the variety of curious species who came knocking on my torch.

23.01.2022 With the sunny weather and blue sky, there is no better way to spend it than going for a dive at Brighton Beach Foreshore Reserve.

23.01.2022 Enjoying what the star show has to offer to finialise the final hour of our 4th year wedding anniversary celebration with Kelly W Chen at Eagle Point Bay.

22.01.2022 We often look up towards the moon and think it’s just plain white. However when you take a closer look at it you can different level of texture on it.

22.01.2022 There is no better way to end a Monday night (during this Stage 4 lockdown) than shoot for the moon. Camera = Olympus em5 Mk II Lens = Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 ISO = 500... Shutter Speed = 1/160 second Aperture = f/5.6 See more

21.01.2022 Here are some photos that I took today using either the Olympus TG6 camera or the Canon DLSR camera with a macro lens. The question I have for you is which photos are from which camera?

21.01.2022 This is my second attempt at light painting and putting the content that I’ve learnt so far from Denis Smith - Photographer tutorial into action. I’m surprised by the variety of items that can be used as tools for light painting. I never thought that the LED balloon that I received for free at my local shopping centre can be used for creative light painting. All these photos were taken using the following settings: ISO = 100 Shutter Speed = 1min 30sec... Aperture = f5.6 Flash = Manual Flash with 6 burst of Full Power Note: I’ve used a fill in flash towards the left with a diffuser to add depth for the tree

21.01.2022 Starting the long weekend with afternoon tea at #danielsdonuts.

21.01.2022 Enjoying a boat dive to #ThePlaygrounds and #J4Submarine on 21/03/2021. Can’t wait to go back again for another visit.

20.01.2022 Momo the Corgi wasn’t impressed when I forced him to be a model. He was more interested at the door, where hopefully someone can help him escape.

19.01.2022 Took this photo (B&W) on 01/10/2020 during the Mid Autumn Festival. In the Chinese culture this festival is celebrated with a feast with family gathering together. Despite the current COVID restrictions in Melbourne, hope everyone was able to to spend some time with their family.

15.01.2022 Looking back at my photo collection and found these photos that I've taken while still a freshy in scuba diving (dive number 26 & 27). These photos were taken during the Scuba Culture weekly Club dive event (Portsea Pier) back on 06/12/2014. These photos were taken using the GoPro HERO 3+ while in the auto mode.

14.01.2022 It’s been nearly three months since I last dived. I can’t believe how cold the water has become since I last dived. The water temperate is at its freshest at 13 degrees. I’ve realised today that all this COVID lockdown has made me easier to feel the cold water that Victoria has to offer during the winter season. Even with the cold water I’ve managed to do a 90 minute dive with Vicki Marks. Thx Vicki for the fun dive today.

14.01.2022 It was time to say good bye, all good things will come to an end.

14.01.2022 It’s been a difficult 2020 but we have managed to get through it. Happy new year everyone. Let’s enjoy what 2021 has to offer. Kelly W Chen, Rebecca Ma

14.01.2022 Looking back at the Scuba Diving photos and realised that I've captured some unique shots (especially the crabs). These were taken on the Scuba Culture weekly Club dive event at Blairgowrie Pier back on 01/11/2014. I still recall this day where we hopped into the water for the first dive with a sunny & clear sky however, when we re-surfaced from the dive everything has already turned to grey. ... Even though the change in weather, the marine life underneath the pier is just amazing with plenty of variety.

13.01.2022 It's nearly two weeks since the lockdown. What better way to spend it at home editing photos from past trips. It's truly a blessing how we can see the seals having a good time. It's amazing how playful these seals can get when we're in the water with them. This was taken back on 13 March 2019 at Chinaman's Hat

12.01.2022 Despite being in Stage 4 lockdown, this is the scenery that I get from my backyard. I took this photo on Monday night and it shows the wonders of our world. You can see Jupiter shining brightly and with Saturn following behind. Stay safe everyone and let's get through this together :)

11.01.2022 I've been browsing through my photos albums lately (I guess that's what you do when in COVID19 lockdown) and found what got me into Scuba Diving and Photography. Thinking back exactly 6 years ago, I've enrolled in the Open Water course with Scuba Culture. This has opened my eyes to the beauty of the underwater world that we take for granted. I recall taking my freshly brought GoPro to the underwater world (12/10/2014 Scuba Culture Club Dive at Williamstown Beach). Here are the first underwater photos that I ever took and I would like to share it with everyone as there just no words to describe the underwater world san-sation (pun intended) :) My apologies for the quality of the photos as these were taken fro my first underwater camera (GoPro HERO 3+).

11.01.2022 Enjoying the Super Blood Moon at Point Gellibrand in Williamstown.

11.01.2022 While in lock down I got a bit of spare time to continue my Light Painting journey via #SchoolofLight. Denis Smith - Photographer has inspired me to go out and try something different in the backyard. I’ve tried using different colour gels on my 1500 lumen dive torch to generate different effects. Lens = 16-35mm Shutter Speed = 2 minutes Aperture = f5.6... ISO = 100 See more

09.01.2022 Only 4 more nights until full moon. Can’t wait to try and capture the complete full moon. Hopefully it will be clear sky without any rain.

09.01.2022 This is our third installment of diver profiles from our crew, this time, we're featuring one of our Assistant Instructors, San. San obtained his Open Water qu...alification at SCUBA CULTURE and has made his way up the ranks to becoming an SSI Assistant Instructor. These days (when allowed to dive) you will find San guiding club dives or assisting on Open Water courses. San has cultivated his own "following" within the dive club, particularly with divers who have a passion for underwater macro photography, one area that San has specialised in and developed quite some expertise that he's happy to share with our club divers. As part of our club membership benefits, guided club dives are free to members and the knowledge and expertise gained by our divers from our dive professionals is one of the many "fringe benefits" that members enjoy. We (San included) would love to hear back from divers who have in one way or another been involved with San in any way in their diving life, please comment, like and share! Name: San Lo Dive Level: Assistant Instructor Number of dives: 360 logged dives How long have you been at Scuba Culture: I enrolled in the Open Water course back in May 2014 and completed the Open Water course during the freezing cold water season of July 2014. Since then I've been part of the Scuba Culture Club family and became an Assistant Instructor in November 2015. How long have you been diving: My first pool dive was in Aqua Energy Leisure Centre located in Sale, where I did a try dive session during high school back in 1999. It was an eye-opening experience for me and I wanted to take it up as a new hobby. However, my parents decided that they didn't want to fund my new hobby hence at that moment I had to give up as I knew I wasn't able to afford it (despite working on the weekend as a casual). My second dive was in March 2014 where I dived in the ocean in Okinawa (also part of try dive experience), this was an eye-opening experience and is what got me hooked on scuba diving. I recall going to Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre in May 2014 just for a swim and found the Scuba Culture crew there offering a try dive experience to promote the SSI Open Water course. I basically signed up that day and this is what got me where I am today with the help/ advice from all the Scuba Culture staff. Favourite creature to see underwater: My favourite creatures to see underwater are definitely Seals (not the military type), I find that their personality is similar to puppies (with their wide puppy dog eyes) but in the open ocean. They love to interact with snorkelers and divers and sometimes they are very curious and would swim up close to have a peak. Despite their size, they are very good swimmers and can swim around rather quickly while changing direction at a moment's notice. Favourite dive site (Melbourne): This is a tough question as I've got a few favourite sites depending on the situation. Boat Dive - Deep: The Ex HMAS Canberra and J4 Submarine are definitely my favourite places to go for a deep boat dive. As there is something magical about going to see a shipwreck, I get the sensation that I'm visiting and being part of history. Boat Dive - Shallow: The Chinaman's Hat and Popes Eye are my favourite place to go for a shallow boat dive. I recall when I first dived Popes Eye that I did the superman pose as I descended underwater. It was a remarkable experience of being weightless and having a gentle current rushing you through the scenery. Apart from the uniqueness of entering Popes Eye there is also plenty of marine life to see and capture. Another favourite dive is to dive/ snorkel with the seals at Chinaman's Hat where you can get up close and personal with the seals and watch their curious behaviour. Apart from being able to see heaps of seals, there generally are a few large black stingrays hanging around (just be careful as some may get right into your face when you are laying down). I can honestly say this is the best place to experience life with the seals and the best place to take photos of the seals. Shore Dive: Blairgowrie pier is one of my favourite shore dive locations. As there is a large variety of marine life which you can observe in this location. I find that Blairgowrie pier is a great location for those who want to practice macro underwater photography as there are generally plenty of Nudibranch subjects around. Favourite dive site overseas: Currently, my favourite dive site is Silfra in Iceland. It's not your everyday experience where you can dive between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and having 200+m of visibility. Despite the water temperature being 1 degree during autumn and a toasty 5 degrees in summer, the 45min dive was really enjoyable. The dive itself is really peaceful with no engine noises, the only noise you will hear is the noise of your bubbles coming out of your regulator as you exhale. The most fascinating part about this dive is that there is an area where you can touch both sides of the tectonic plates at the same time (great profile photo opportunity). For those who haven't been, I suggest you give it a go as the tectonic plates are moving further out at a pace of 1 to 2cm a year. There will be a time in the future where you no longer be able to touch both tectonic plates at the same time. Favourite course to teach or location to guide: With the Chinaman's Hat snorkel/ dive, you can see the excited faces of the group as we get closer to Chinaman's Hat. This is definitely one of those experiences where the group can swim with the seals in their natural environment. As mentioned, this is definitely the best place for the group to capture their experience with the seals. Apart from Blairgowrie Pier and Chinaman's Hat which I've mentioned already, another favourite location is Ewen's Ponds and Kilsby Sinkhole in SA. What makes this location unique is that these are freshwater sinkholes, where you can get about 50m visibility. This means that when you can dive 23m, you will be able to look up and see the clouds and sun in the blue sky. If you get into the water at the right time, you can see a pillar of light coming through the water which is a great photography experience. Favourite dive memory: One of my favourite dive memories is when I dived the American Tanker in Guam back in 2017. I recall that day where my dive buddy had advised they were sick and weren’t able to dive (by this stage we were already on the boat heading to the drop off point). Luckily, I was able to buddy up with another group of divers so the trip didn't go to waste. While I was chatting with the newly formed buddy group (that had about 5 of them) I realized that everyone in the group were local instructors going out to have fun. We got to the point where we penetrated the wreck and made our way across the wreck. It was an amazing experience to see the inside of the wreck, to top it off by the time we finished the dive, the charter crew was serving freshly cut sashimi on the table. Personal characteristics on land/underwater: My favourite place is definitely being in the water diving. As some of you may already know I love going for a dive but dislike getting completely wet and cold hence I dive in a dry suit all year round. I have a passion for photography and videography and enjoy capturing the following genres: * Underwater * Landscape * Architecture * Astro

08.01.2022 Today is going to be my last dive for 2020. Looking back at it we have been hit with multiple restrictions in Melbourne (no chance to go diving or visit love ones). There is no doubt that this year has been tough for everyone. The diving community has gone through a lot this year. On a positive note The New Year is just round the corner. Can’t wait to leave 2020 and head to the 2021. Let’s make a 2021 a good one.

08.01.2022 It’s been 4 months since I last went scuba diving (due to COVID lockdown), I thought I’ll treat myself to a dive at Brighton Beach Foreshore Reserve. Even thought the visibility was limited (2-3m), I’m just excited to be able to get into the water again. Can’t wait to be able go to other dive sites (further than 25km).

06.01.2022 Finally with the ease of lockdown restrictions, I can finally go out to do some #lightpainting. With the help of #SchoolofLight videos, I’m able to start learning the concepts behind this art. A special thanks to @ArthurMak for joining me last night in the adventure. It is truely an amazing experience and lots of fun. Shutter Speed = 15 seconds Aperture = f16 ISO = 100

05.01.2022 On a cold drizzling night what better way to spend it by being undercover and practicing #lightpainting. After watching Denis Smith - Photographer and #SchoolofLight videos I thought I’ll try mounting my torch to the 1L Pura milk bottle and see what effects it can accomplish. Settings:... ISO = 100 Aperture = f22 Shutter Speed = 6 seconds To my surprise the results were quite astonishing, any feedback will be appreciated.

04.01.2022 Finally escaping winter Momo the Corgi and Mia the Spitz is able to enjoy the sunshine that Spring has to offer. It seems not long ago that we are all rugged up at home during the chilly winter period. It’s amazing how the weather changes in Melbourne.

04.01.2022 Feeling great to get a bit of sunshine and be able to stretch the legs at Pine Hill Reserve. I’m sure Momo the Corgi and Mia the Spitz is enjoying play time outside of the house.

04.01.2022 16/04/2021 - Enjoying the extra long weekend at Inverloch and Wilsons Promontory National Park. It’s been so l visited these places. It great to be back as an adult and visiting the different location.

03.01.2022 Enjoying the night view at #queenscliff

02.01.2022 Another beautiful day perfect for diving at Brighton beach with Vicki Marks. It’s been 5 months since I last dive with you, I recall our last dive was is in June going to Rye pier for spider crab migration. Thanks for the fun and exciting dive Vicki.

02.01.2022 Even during the COVID19 lockdown period, mother nature has put on a show last night to cheer us on. Mother nature has never failed to impress me of what is happening in this big wide world and the things we simply have forgotten or taken for granted. Tonight was my first time to witness a moon halo (ring around the moon). It's quite a unique thing to see at night. After googling this, it's makes me think how remarkable our planet is and how we need to cherish it. According... to Wiki "A 22 halo is an optical phenomenon that belongs to the family of ice-crystal halos. Its form is a ring with an apparent radius of approximately 22 around the Sun or Moon. When visible around the Moon, it is called a moon ring or winter halo" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22%C2%B0_halo). For those who have missed it last night, here is a quick glimpse of what took place last night.
