24.01.2022 Social Justice Event Yesterday, San Sisto students came together to learn about the work of Birthing Kits Foundation Australia, and seeking justice for all. The group of students spent their lunch break packing 200 birthing kits for women in remote areas in developing communities, Kits are given to mothers through community outreach programs, supplied to health facilities for use by doctors, midwives and nurses or distributed to traditional birthing attendants. They are designed to support hygienic practices and environments during childbirth in under-resourced settings. . In 2018, we hosted 121 students from local Brisbane Colleges to hear from a representative from Zonta, and since then our students have continued to provide support to this worthy cause. Thank you to Mrs Van Kerkwyk and Mrs Archer for supporting our girls.

17.01.2022 Today at our Years 9 and 10 Assembly, a School Mass was celebrated with the students of Fanjeaux. During the celebration of the Eucharist Fr Alex spoke of the story of Dominic who sat in the small village of Fanjeaux perched on a hill overlooking fields filled with sunflowers. It was here that he affirmed his mission to establish a community of women who would later become the first Dominican community. Fr Alex encouraged the girls, as they soon move to senior schooling, to be like Dominic and explore all options with an open mind when contemplating their future endeavours.

At San Sisto, we take this opportunity to celebrate and thank all our team for the important roles they play within our College - inside our classrooms and out in the community. #happyworldstaffday2020

13.01.2022 Market Day 24 August - Fundraiser On Monday our Year 10 Business students will run their market day, selling many items in support of the Kopanang Women’s Group. In April 2001, the Kopanang Community Trust had its beginnings, driven by the need to support women to gain a sustainable way forward through skills training and empowerment in South Africa's townships. Kopanang means gathering together. These women came together to shape the future of their lives and their famil...ies by creating artworks and products of beauty, sharing faith and community. We are very proud to have one of their beautiful embroidered tapestries hanging in our College Chapel. Please support our year 10 Business students by coming along to their market stalls on Monday. Payment via Flexischools only, so please top up your accounts and simply tap your ID card on the day. Items range from $2.00 to $5.00. For more information on Kopanang Trust, visit https://www.facebook.com/kopanangcommunitytrust https://kopanang.africa/support-us/

11.01.2022 Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. This year, it has been clearer than ever that we are not each other’s enemies. Rather, our common enemy is a tireless virus that threatens our health, security and very way of life. COVID-19 has thrown our world into turmoil and forcibly... reminded us that what happens in one part of the planet can impact people everywhere. As we struggle to defeat COVID-19, your voice is more important than ever. In these difficult times of physical distancing, this International Day of Peace will be dedicated to fostering dialogue and collecting ideas. The world will be invited to unite and share thoughts on how to weather this storm, heal our planet and change it for the better. Even though we may not be able to stand next to each other, we can still dream together. The 2020 theme for the International Day of Peace is Shaping Peace Together. Celebrate the day by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the pandemic. Stand together with the UN against attempts to use the virus to promote discrimination or hatred. Join us so that we can shape peace together. https://internationaldayofpeace.org/ See more

06.01.2022 Yesterday Brisbane Catholic Education Executive Director, Ms Pam Betts visited to speak to our year 12 students. 05.01.2022 Over the weekend we celebrated International Day of Charity. Originally a Hungarian civil society initiative to commemorate Mother Teresa’s death, International Day of Charity took off worldwide in 2012 when the UN declared it an international holiday. Besides honoring Mother Teresa’s tireless work to help others overcome poverty and suffering, the holiday provides a platform for charitable opportunities to take place. Overall, this day reminds us that simple acts of charity ...can alleviate the worst effects of humanitarian crises and create more inclusive and resilient societies. Mother Teresa left a testament of unshakable faith, invincible hope and extraordinary charity. Her response to Jesus' plea, "Come be My light," made her a Missionary of Charity, a "mother to the poor," a symbol of compassion to the world, and a living witness to the thirsting love of God. "Mother often said, 'Holiness is not the luxury of the few, it is a simple duty for each one of us. May her example help us to strive for holiness: to love God, to respect and love every human person created by God in His own image and in whom He dwells, and to care for our poor and suffering brethren. May all the sick, the suffering, and those who seek God's help find a friend and intercessor in Mother." St. Teresa of Calcutta is the patron saint of World Youth Day, Missionaries of Charity and a co-patron of the Archdiocese of Calcutta, alongside St. Francis Xavier. Her feast day is celebrated on September 5.

02.01.2022 Last night our Class of 2020 celebrated with family and friends at a meaningful and memorable graduation mass. Today, our senior students spent time saying goodbye to their teachers and friends before the whole College joined them for one last assembly celebrating their time at the College, before the guard of honour through the campus and the final hat toss and school song on the sacred grass. May their lives be blessed and may they use every opportunity to shape the future. We wish them well as they continue to make their mark on the world. #sansistocollegecarina #sansisters #classof2020 #congratulations #graduation #joy #loveoflearning

01.01.2022 Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the canonisation of Mary MacKillop. The Sisters of St Joseph have invited us to join them at 8pm tonight for Courage Hour, an hour of prayer and personal reflection. The Vigil invites us to come to peace and prayer and wrap our world in courage, that same courage from which St Mary MacKillop lived. Together let us take fresh courage for ourselves and for our world. https://www.sosj.org.au/10th-anniversary/
