I am an ex-pat Kiwi. And earlier this year, as everyone else was worried about Coronavirus, I was diagnosed at the age of 42 with an aggressive form of Prostate Cancer. I was told at the time that I needed surgery within 6-8 weeks because the cancer was already beginning to spread to my Lymphatic and Vascular systems. But (because of Coronavirus) there was a high likelihood that I wasn't going to get that surgery for 6-9 months as the hospitals were all being commandeered as Covid only locations. By that stage it would have been too late. Needless to say, this was the most stressful time of my life. As it turned out, we found a way. I was able to get the surgery I needed and just a couple of weeks ago I got confirmation that I am (at least for now) cancer-free. The thing is without the work of organisations like Cancer Council Australia or the New Zealand Cancer society, the hard work they do and the money they raise for Cancer research, operations like the robotic surgery that I had wouldn't exist. And I would be facing a very different future right now.
