23.01.2022 Today we did math. We worked out the multiplying effect of infectious diseases, which is quite a serious calculation if you consider how a virus spreads. Just dont forget that viruses such as friendliness, care and appreciation can spread just as fast if we pass them on to others. #

23.01.2022 Yoga is back next Wednesday in Mirboo North with two spots remaining. https://santoshayogagippsland.com/mirboonorth/ Swami Satyananda says: ... Yoga is coming back to life. The science of yoga is being revived. Lack of insight in humanity was the cause of the loss, or rather, the disappearance of this ancient yogic culture. It was put aside, hidden and forgotten. It was replaced by materialism, together with pleasure seeking. Humans wanted more and more possessions, wealth and status. This materialism has driven human society to the edge of total collapse. At this present time, when humanity is poised on the edge of this crumbling precipice, they are starting to think: ‘What have I done?’ and it is at this moment that they begins to search within and finds that ancestors, yours and mine, had a way of life, a culture called ‘yoga’. We are starting to relive it again. It is nothing new. Neither brought nor implanted from outside, but something that is already in the collective consciousness of all humanity. Yoga is a mighty world culture Yoga should be given, not for the sake of yoga, but for the sake of the human being. Yoga is a way to perfect bliss, anandam. What is the aim of yoga? Samadhi(Perfect Realisation). What is the effect of meditation? Shanti(peace). What is the effect of dharana(meditation)? Onepointedness. What is the effect of pranayama(energetic breathing)? A good brain. What is the effect of asanas(postures); a light and healthy body. What is the result of niyama? A system or science of life. What is the effect of yama? Breaking down the complications in life. Yoga is a science of therapy, a science of selfimprovement and a way of discipline. Yoga is actually a science for mankind, for his body, mind and spiritual growth. Besides all this, however, yoga is a culture and every nation must have a culture. Yoga is a mighty culture in the making, and very soon, it is going to direct the experiences, behaviour, thought and perception of humanity. Yoga is a way of life, a culture of tomorrow. In the coming times, yoga is going to direct the events of the world’s history, and you have a definite role to play in this. It is up to you to accept this great science with love, with admiration, with hope and with sincerity. Yogamag.net See more

22.01.2022 If you forget to tell me to open my eyes after Yoga Nidra, I will definitely get up and walk around with my eyes closed.

21.01.2022 All this week, all classes, all online. I am sure like me, you know someone for whom this weeks social distancing practices are of utmost importance. Even if you dont, you can imagine the numbers of people in our community, vulnerable through age or illness, for whom the practice of social distancing will benefit, by ensuring rates of infection by COVID-19 are slowed down and the demands on our health services are moderated. Maybe like me you feel like weve all practiced a... whole of social distancing over the past decade as advances in mobile technology wowed us with a black mirror which divided many of us in the face of imaginary threats such as race and immigration. Well its time we took back the airways and used technology once more as a means for connection, solidarity and strength. Thats why all this week were heeding the advice of medical professionals, councils and organisations throughout Australia and moving our activities online. This Monday and Tuesday, classes will run at the same time, from the comfort and privacy of your own home. Thanks to Zoom videoconferencing were setting up home practice spaces for over 30 students to keep things going as usual this week. Please stay connected, check in and look after each other, whilst we all recalibrate our need for social proximity, mutual respect and resource sharing over the next few months. 19.01.2022 It’s real out there. If you are a frontline worker donning PPE 4-5 times a day. If you are a healthcare worker doing your best to stop the spread of an unseen force which threatens to rip through our communities and expose its most vulnerable elements. The sick, the old, the poor, the homeless, the helpless and the weak. Remember as you don your mask that you are practicing the ultimate in Shanti(peace) in the face of this pandemic. A peace to the elderly and frail. A practic...e of peace to your fellow citizen, who may not believe what you believe, live where you live or have the same colour skin. A peace expressed to those all around you in this life. Wear your mask as an expression of a new kind of peace, do your work as a new kind of expression of generosity to all who need our help in this life and the next. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti. Also, instruction is back online and available via the link in the bio.

17.01.2022 Patanjalis Yoga sutras offer a set of precepts for right living. There are five which relate to our inner world. These are not moral codes but guidelines for the life we would live if we realised our true nature and purpose which is the reason for yoga and life in general. Saucha is cleanliness and purity, but most importantly it is the presence of routine methods for cleaning the dross of daily life. Like all yogic practices it can be understood on levels ranging from the g...ross physical reality to the subtle mental and metaphysical. From washing your hands and taking your shoes off to tidying your living spaces and getting rid of junk. From letting go of unnecessary items to letting go of unnecessary fears, attitudes and states of being. From releasing tension through stretching to releasing animosity and resentment through meditation and self study. Saucha is the consistent behaviours of maintaining purity of body and mind, allowing the clarity through which the spirit can shine forth. When you adopt a set of principles for living, you have no need for rules or customs enforced by mass nor social media. Your guidance comes from a higher place and your behaviours and attitudes grow aligned to your higher self. #niyamas #yamas #saucha #yoga #morwell #mirboonorth #gippsland

16.01.2022 Santosha Yoga, through a partnership with One Tree Planted, plants one tree per student per class. Simple. In troubled times, its not to politicians, technology or hysteria that we should look to for responsibility or solutions, but to the natural world which has evolved to support life and living systems from day 1. One tree is all it takes, one person is all it takes and one kind action repeated over and over is all it takes to start a revolution. @onetreeplanted #onetreeplanted

12.01.2022 A lot of businesses right now are either not open or having a hard time looking open. I made this sign at the start of the year after a dream which woke me at 3 in the morning outlining the exact method, materials and design for an a-frame sign expressing the need and availability of yoga in our community. Whilst the body is certainly used during Yoga asana(physical postures), its not the body which is the main benefactor of a yogic Sadhana. For all of us, its our thought...s which create our experience and it is our thoughts which can be stilled and uplifted by the regular practice of Yoga. For many of us a change in the right direction, a new habit, a change in lifestyle is a thing on a list. Something were meaning to get around to maybe sometime, when the conditions are right. For many, taking up regular yogic practice remains a thing on a list. But for some when the time is right, Sadhana becomes the pathway to a new way of being, a new habit, which imbibes life with a sense of wonder, tranquility and ease. The challenge is to follow the signs and make the change. Classes are on a term break at the moment, but our Sunday evening online program includes Yoga Nidra with a variety of experienced teachers delivering a LIVE half hour of deep guided relaxation and positive intention. Entry is for a small donation that plants 3 trees around the world per person. Join via the website. Link in BIO. #onetreeplanted @onetreeplanted #yoganidra #sadhana #yoga #yogaonline #zoom

11.01.2022 Its a wrap. Thanks for joining this weeks classes delivered online. And thanks to all the kids for rolling up their yoga mats to keep the Sadhana room calm, neat and tidy during home schooling conditions round here.

11.01.2022 This week has seen people all over the world setting up a small space in their home to tune in and practice Yoga whist the outside world is turned upside down. The simple step of clearing a space for the purpose of practicing Sadhana is a bold step in an individual spiritual journey but when taken en masse by people across the globe, it becomes revolutionary. The act of preparing a space in your home for regular yogic practice is a statement affirming the power and responsibi...lity we all have for creating states of peace, tranquility and healing in our lives, families and communities. A statement which acknowledges the futility of looking to the external world to deliver expectations of security, health, wealth and purpose. By journeying inwards, we discover the true source of all experience and to realise true peace. Perhaps if anything returns to the way it was before COVID-19, the maintenance of a home practice spaces, alive with regular use will stick with us. This week registrations open for a course in Sadhana and setting up for home practice. Signup for free via the link in the BIO. 11.01.2022 There are no guidelines on how to practise and live spiritual life. The basic framework has been given in the yogic, tantric and vedic traditions, but ultimately we have to manage our own thoughts, ideas, beliefs and convictions. Until we do that, there is no spiritual development. Spiritual development is not mechanical. It does not mean that if we do a certain practice, we will get a definite result. As long as we are doing something physical or mental, that is fine, becaus...e we know what the end result of asana and pranayama, or mantra practice, or meditation practice will be. However, it must be emphasized that the practices can only lead us to a certain point. Beyond that we have to adjust, modify and alter our mental expressions and develop a new perspective. Developing a new vision marks the awakening of the spiritual faculty within us. Hatha yoga or raja yoga do not indicate the awakening of spiritual faculties. Understanding, modifying and changing the mental vrittis indicates the beginning of spiritual awareness. How do we modify or fine-tune our ideas, thoughts, convictions and beliefs, which are the basic building blocks of our nature? The answer has been given in the Yoga Sutras. The yamas and niyamas have to be lived. It is not necessary to practise all five yamas or all five niyamas, but it is important to master one yama or one niyama. The highest practice one can do to cultivate spiritual awareness is ishwara pranidhana, which is the final niyama. Ishwara pranidhana means let thy will be done. Allowing oneself to be the recipient of the divine will is the highest virtue that can be cultivated. It is the highest state of mind that can be developed and experienced.... 10.01.2022 JOIN US SUNDAY AT 7:00(AEST) FOR MORNING CHANTING -JOIN VIA THE WEBSITE IN BIO. While mantra has been the vehicle for realisation for thousands of years in the various spiritual and religious traditions of the world, it is only in very recent years that it has been investigated scientifically. Mantra repetition has been found to profoundly alter the type and intensity of the brain waves, and to initiate profound changes in the physiological systems of the body. Research studi...es have revealed that daily practice of japa yoga improves cardiac output and respiratory efficiency, lowers blood pressure, enhances alpha brain wave activity, and lowers serum cholesterol levels and levels of stress hormones such as lactate, cortisol and adrenaline in the bloodstream. These effects have led medical researchers to conduct further studies in which patients suffering from various disease conditions have been found to respond very favourably to japa yoga. -text thanks to Yogamag.net #yoga #mantra #onlineyoga #chanting See more

09.01.2022 Now is the time to Serve, Love, and Give. Maybe things arent convenient right now. Maybe things arent quite right at the moment, but things always change and people always find ways to check in, smile, connect, include and share.

07.01.2022 Patanjalis Yoga sutras offer a set of precepts for right living. There are four which relate to our inner world. Tapasya is moderation or austerity and can also be understood as maintaining the habits and routines of Sadhana(regular spiritual practice), which sometimes seem challenging. If we succumb to or overemphasise individual sensory gratification or stimulation to the neglect of our daily spiritual habits, commitments or seva(service) to others, our progress is stifle...d. Tapasya is easy when we foresee and understand the inevitable effects of our dominant cultures promotion of individualistic sensory gratification and consumerism. Our earth cannot sustain further growth in consumption of water, fossil fuels, animal products, and the fickle consumer products we usher on to landfill on a daily. Reconditioning our daily habits to correct this, takes an effort of will and determination, not rewarded by the usual feedback loops of status, wealth and power. When you adopt Tapasya, your gains in life are not individual, physical or tangible, but collective, spiritual and ethereal. When you adopt a set of principles for living, you have no need for rules customs enforced by mass nor social media. Your guidance comes from a higher place and your behaviours and attitudes grow aligned to your higher self. #niyamas #tapasya #yoga #morwell #mirboonorth #gippsland #patanjali #satyananda

05.01.2022 Thanks to Tuesday nights students who have continued to fight their technology demons for the sake of Sadhana, joining us via Zoom video conferencing and finding new ways of continuing with home practice during physical distancing which is way a way more accurate term for whats going on in our communities right now as we find new ways of reaching out and caring for each other during a challenging yet transformative time. #physicaldistancing #yoga #homepractice #zoomvideocommunications #zoomvideo

04.01.2022 SUNDAY NIGHT YOGA NIDRA - LIVE TONIGHT AT 8:00pm(AEST). This week this comes courtesy of Audrey Burking(@audreyburking) YOGA NIDRA: In the modern scenario, human life has become very fast, hectic and demanding. The present lifestyle demands adjustment on the part of the individual. Each of us, as per our coping resources, tries to adjust in this changing world. Some adjust by becoming overactive and others by withdrawing from the situation. When we fail to make a proper adjus...tment according to the demands of the situation, a state of negative stress or distress develops in our personality, which gives rise to mental or psychological problems. In most people the mind always remains in a state of arousal and tension. Yoga nidra, as a technique of pratyahara, not only provides relaxation to the body and mind but also has a number of benefits. Yoga nidra is one of the practices of pratyahara where the awareness is internalized. Literally, yoga nidra means psychic sleep i.e. sleep with full awareness. In the practice of yoga nidra the body sleeps but the mind remains awake listening to the instructions - text courtesy of Yogamag.net Join tonights live class via link in bio at http://SantoshayogaGippsland.com

03.01.2022 Om is a sound, a symbol, a vibration and a mantra. It is the sound we make at the start and finish of each yoga class to invoke a sense of stillness before practice and after our practice of Yoga. It is the symbol of all of creation including you, me, others, animals, nature and all myriad of life and the universe of which we are a part. As a vibration it is the start and end of all physical particles which modern quantum science tells us manifest not as physical atoms, but a...s vibrations of energy which only appear as particles and are controlled not by physical laws, but by consciousness itself. As a mantra it is the simplest and most accessible of mantras, which can be practiced without close supervision to harmonise the mind, body and spirit and connect is to our highest purpose.
