03.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Launching 'Grace's Pink Belt Scholarship' for girls aged 13 to 17. How do you sum up the feeling when a 14-year-old 2nd Dan Black Belt rings fr...om interstate to tell you that she has decided to raise money for Pink Belt Project because Taekwondo has helped her so much in dealing with her own horrific neurological disease? There are no words. Just that feeling in your gut and the back of your throat and a tear or two. Awe inspiring. You see, Grace understands more than anyone, what Taekwondo and training in the traditional martial arts can add to your life. Grace has Autism and Functional Neurological Disorder which results in severe and ongoing seizures with associated memory loss and other neurological impacts. She and her mum Jo are currently in Sydney so that Grace can receive the best treatment currently available in Australia for her condition. In addition, she has moved from her Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan Australia ( Byford - Master Neil Brickwood Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan Byford Armadale Serpentine ) in WA to prepare for her 3rd Dan Black Belt Exam with Musa Taekwondo Academy in Sydney. Mum Jo says Grace benefits enormously not just physically but socially and emotionally through her training. Money raised by Grace will - for the first time - provide a Pink Belt Scholarship (one year of free Taekwondo) to a young woman aged 13 to 17 who has a neurological disability or her family could not otherwise afford for her to train. It will be called Grace's Pink Belt Scholarship. Pink Belt Project aims to empower women over 18 with free access to martial arts training and now also, thanks to Grace, to young women too.
