25.01.2022 SAPHI's IoT workshop last week as part of the Hunter innovation festival! It was a great night, and these award-winning smiles say it all. We taught attendees how to build their own low-cost wireless communication network for multiple sensors in a given area. Benefits of these boards for wireless communications?... 1. You are free to use a lot of bandwidth 2. You don't need to inundate your router with heaps of devices 3. You can get excellent range 4. You don't need a sim card per sensor 5. You aren't tying each sensor node to a particular comms method back to the internet 6. They are very low power if they need to be #wirelesscommunications #smartcity #smartcities #iot #network #solutions

19.01.2022 Did you know that only two rows of the LEDs on this RGB matrix are turned on at any one time? The rows are simply turning on and off so fast that it appears as a solid image. To get a stable image on our demo sign here, we need to be able to control the colour of 9216 individual LEDs. The most efficient way to do this from a hardware perspective is by using "multiplexing" which enables us to control 9216 LEDs with just 13 IO pins instead of the thousands that would be requir...ed if we had to control each LED directly. However, to do this, you need a good processor to turn on these rows at a fast enough rate to make them appear as a solid image (100 Hz is the rate FYI). At 100 Hz, the light is moving through each of these 9216 LEDs 100 times per second! To see what this looks like in super slow-mo, check out our video of this sign on YouTube https://youtu.be/juQJfxlk3SM SAPHI uses its knowledge of embedded programming to write software that can drive RGB signs of any size for our clients. This is possible due to the engineering background and experience of our engineers working with low-level code. #programming #iotplatform #softwareengineering #coding #embeddedsoftware #industrialequipment #industrialsolutions
18.01.2022 IoT data logging to help farmers save their most valuable resource. Our team at SAPHI is currently working on a data logging project that focuses on measuring various water quality elements to support research into helping farmers protect their water supplies. This is a great project that hits a soft spot for us. With our founders all coming from out west, we understand the importance of water management.... This is a great opportunity for us to work closely with farmers and researches to harness the power of IoT and help solve major water problems, and we couldn't be more proud. Here we have our team working on visualising the architecture for the web and mobile app to enable the client to monitor and control the systems remotely. #farming #Iot #systemsintegration #bigdata #automation #productmanager
18.01.2022 It has dropped! Our team at SAPHI is incredibly proud to announce the launch of Trigit - a new educational app, designed to make trigonometry applicable and engaging for students! Beta testing of our app as a part of the curriculum in schools is currently underway in the Hunter Region with positive feedback from educators and students coming in thick and fast.... Education is crucially important to our society, and at SAPHI, we understand how difficult it can be to get students to see how the maths skills they are learning in the classroom could apply to their everyday lives. To combat this, our team have partnered with educators in the mathematics faculty to develop a tool that applies modern technology to the age-old problem of getting students engaged in the classroom. TrigIt is a free app, that is accessible to all students. It gives educators the ability to show students the relevance of Trigonometry by applying it to real-world scenarios whilst encouraging them to make meaningful connections to their classroom learning. #education #mathsteacher #stem #cpchat #edleadership #newcastlensw #mathematicseducation
17.01.2022 It was a great opportunity for our COO Liam to sit down with another Liam from Newy Tech People. It was a good overview of what SAPHI has been doing in the coding community and a chance to showcase some of the exciting things we have in the pipeline. Be sure to give it a listen
16.01.2022 Milestone reached here at SAPHI today! We are now running animations efficiently on our RGB panels from low cost embedded controllers. To get animations running on the RGB panels, our embedded controller must be able to update the image 20-30 times a second! It is the technical skills from our experienced low-level programmers that enabled us to achieve this without stressing the processor of the controller. ... 16.01.2022 A quick recap on the SAPHI run monthly coding meetup 'BlastFurnace'. Our last event was fully booked in person with 20 people also tuning in online. We had a great time leading attendees through the process of sending custom IoT messages using the Telstra API. This allows you to connect to any IoT device and receive an automated text message when it records a specific value.... E.g. Does a water pump stop working? Is the vaccine fridge getting too warm/cold? Is there a gas leak? Is a vehicle going too fast? Each trigger will send a customised message to all relevant parties, allowing for fast and simple communication so you can act swiftly in rectifying the problem. #IoT #softwareengineering #learntocode #meetup

15.01.2022 Summary: We designed our Water Tank IoT system to monitor the water level of tanks. The Ground-to-Cloud IoT solution collects the water level data via an ultrasonic sensor that communicates this data to the user via a UI platform. We created a smart alarm that would notify farmers of changes in water tank levels, leaks, open taps, and low battery levels of the sensor. https://www.saphi.com.au/iot-system-water-tank/
15.01.2022 The SAPHI team pulling out the drone in Tamworth last weekend to help a local farmer track the water flow through his crops. The yellow lines indicated a reduction in nutrients in the soil due to flash flood runoff. These images allowed the farmer to analyse where to install contour banks to protect his crops and produce a higher yield. #Farmers have a special place in the hearts of the SAPHI team, and we had fun #volunteering our time and resources to lend a hand.... #dronesforgood #cropprotection #crophealth

14.01.2022 This is a photo that sums up one of SAPHIs key benefits to clients. At SAPHI, we recognised early on that our productivity dramatically increased when we implemented what we call "The Hive". When someone in the team is stuck on a client problem and cannot solve it within a specified time-frame, we throw that problem to "The Hive" and allow each member of the team to view the problem via Slack. This simple process instantly allows for multiple eyes and perspectives to attack ...the problem and find a solution fast. It is kind of like getting help with a find a word. Do you know that experience as a kid when you would stare at a find a word for far too long, looking for that final word, only for a mate to walk past and point it out immediately? Well that is sort of our concept at SAPHI, and it works just as effectively! We have noticed since implementing "The Hive" that problems get solved faster, and the workflow in the office as a whole has increased, allowing us to complete jobs faster and at a higher quality. #worksmarter #workbetter #softwaresolutions #workflow #softwaredevelopmentservices #IoT
