12.01.2022 How often per week do you exercise? We thought this was a good topic to discuss as some people tend to hibernate during winter Multiple studies have shown as little as 1 hour exercise per week of any intensity can reduce the risk of depression and anxiety. If you’re currently not exercising at all try going for a couple of 30 minute walks each week or our 60 minute Restorative Yoga class on Thursday evenings ... Just 2 hours of exercise per week will see changes in your physical health reducing the risk of heart disease and other lifestyle related illness And 2 hours of high intensity training each week (ideally a mixture of resistance training and hiit) is all you need to see body composition changes as long as you’re eating properly as well! At Sapiens Fitness that looks like 4x gym floor classes; 2x STRONG, 1-2x SWEAT and 1x CONDITIONING would be perfect A recent study showed a sweet spot of high intensity training (resistance training and hiit) 3-6 times per week reducing the risk of injury. It’s assumed that those people training more than 6 times per week weren’t getting enough recovery. But there’s also a higher risk of injury training just 1-2 times per week the body isn’t properly prepped for the workload and people might be pushing extra hard to make up for the days they’re not training! So if you’re just getting started and doing 1-2 classes per week it’s important to ease yourself in And we believe 3 is the magic number to keep your routine and momentum. A minimum 3 classes each week means you’re never away for more than a couple of days. The longer you’re away from the gym the harder it is to get back in to it! The key to physical and mental health is consistency Not every workout needs to be a PB, you’ve just got to keep turning up! It’s so much easier to stay in bed on these cold winter mornings but your future self will thank you for making a commitment to get to the gym!

01.01.2022 Tips for staying consistent at the gym during winter During the last few weeks at Sapiens Fitness we’ve spoken a lot about how discipline is more important than motivation when it comes to staying on track. You only have to look around the gym at 5am on a cold winters morning to see not everyone is pumped to be there! But they’ve made a commitment to themselves and they’re not going to let themselves down. (We usually manage to crack a few smiles about 5 minutes in to t...he warm up ) Motivational quotes and fitspo insta accounts aren’t going to cut it but here are some tips on getting disciplined, keeping yourself accountable and turning up! Training buddy Studies show workout performance can double when you have a training buddy! Whether that’s twice the effort during the session or twice as many sessions a workout buddy can help you stay on track Set goals Having something to work towards can help keep you focussed! Setting specific and challenging goals leads to higher performance 90% of the time. Maybe there’s an event or competition you’d like to enter? Or it could just me setting the target of 3 workouts per week every week Find your why! It’s almost impossible to stay committed to doing something unless you know your why. What is the driving force behind you wanting to workout, get healthy, live and move better. Is it to have more energy to do the things you love? Have more confidence in your body? Or set a good example for your kids? Once you’ve found your why and your purpose it will make getting to the gym a lot easier on these cold mornings!
