22.01.2022 Bookings for Term 2 2018 are open now! Our unique Saplings Sensory Awareness Play Program is designed for you and your baby. There is nothing quite like it in Canberra for the Birth to 12 months age group. Our room is specifically structured with your little one in mind. Furnishings are varied, soft, welcoming and provide great sensory stimulus for your baby. The music and activities are targeted at the very young baby and you will enjoy singing and playing with your little... one, learning new songs and finger plays each week. Our group time is very popular. Here you will learn about sensory development relating to your childs age and stage of development. Youll also get a chance to talk about any concerns that you have and with the benefit of the group leader and others advice, you may find a solution to your concerns. A hugely popular time of the session is free play, where you and your baby get to explore the activities in the room that have been set up each week just for you. As your baby enjoys predictability, there is a series of activities that will signal to your baby that the session is coming to a close. Currently, sessions still have vacancies on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10am. 21.01.2022 Jolly Jumpers and baby walkers should be avoided, SA Health and experts warn - ABC NEWS - - - - - - - - - Parents are being urged not to buy baby walkers and e...xercise jumpers for their babies because of the risk of injury and developmental delays. SA Health and Kidsafe launched a campaign today to make parents aware of the dangers posed by the devices and to discourage their use. SA Health deputy chief medical officer Dr Nicola Spurrier said it was not uncommon to see babies and children with developmental delays associated with the use of baby walkers and baby exercise jumpers, which are also known by the brand name Jolly Jumper. "Excessive time in walkers and jumpers teaches babies to stand up on their tip toes, causing their calf muscles to tighten and affecting their ability to walk, and in some cases requiring treatment with casting or surgery," Dr Spurrier said. https://www.abc.net.au//sa-health-recommends-not-/10403890

08.01.2022 SAPLINGS Optimizing Sensory Play The Playroom is the Perfect place Like you and me, babies learn about the world through their senses. Our senses bring us important information - to learn, to play, to socialize and generally to function in the world. Our 5 senses, sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell are familiar to us. However, there are two other important senses. One is our sense of balance and movement, which comes from our Vestibular system. It helps us move our bod...y without falling, to ride a bike, to walk or sit up at our desk. We also get information through our body position sense or Proprioception. Here, we can get information about our body parts without needing to look at them. We know how to climb stairs without looking at the steps, or just how much force to use when lifting up and then cracking an egg. Putting together all this information from all our senses enables us to participate in everyday activities. When we integrate all this information, we can make sense of the world we live in and move through activity much more successfully. The greater amount of enriching activities that we can expose our babies to, the more likely that they can develop their senses, individually and together. Through this integration, babies are building more neural pathways and strengthening them, as they hardwire movements and patterns.
