21.01.2022 People On behalf of the Merimbula Netball and Basketball Committees let me assure you we are still very optimistic that you will get a new surface and roof. Ye...s we have hit a few hurdles along the way since we secured the $1,000,000 and the project has slowed somewhat. You may have read in the paper that a number of councillors have issues with assisting in funding our the project, we note their concerns however your committees holds an opposing view. We are not after gold fittings, we have always sought to keep the costs proportionate to what is needed. We need to remember that the surface is deteriorating at a speed that in less then 6 to 12 months it will be unusable and will require replacing. As those that have player or have kids that play know, if it rains we can’t play, if there is a dew on surface we can’t play. For approximately 3 months of the year we can’t play. I’m not suggesting the other projects aren’t important but our project is shovel ready now and could be completed by Christmas. Most importantly I feel that what has been lost is who actually benefits from completing this project and I don’t think the number from other projects stack up. The Sharks and Netball have over 550 -600 players. The courts will have the potential to be used 12 months of year keeping our player’s active. They will be used by kids, teenagers and adults, ladies and mens, we run all inclusive programs for disabled players, we will be running walking basketball for the elderly. We will be able to run Carnivals that will bring additional tourists to our which is something our town really needs. It will Not be only the Netball and basketball but community groups such as Lions and Rotary and other entities. So drop your elected Councillors an email and if you see them out and about let them how much this projected is needed and that it is needed now. Please also comment, like, share this so we can show how widely and deeply the completion of our courts is felt. Regards Cliffy Scarlett Club President Joint User Committe

20.01.2022 Netball NSW has announced 2020 Netball NSW Performance Sessions! Netball NSW Performance Sessions will provide athletes with a growth opportunity leading into trials. These sessions are aimed at athletes who are 13 years and older in 2020 and are keen to take up the challenge to trial for Association Representative Teams, Regional Academies of Sport, Emerging Talent Programs or State Teams.... 2020 State Team Head Coaches Amber Cross and Jen Huggett have planned the sessions, which will be delivered by some of NSW’s most experienced coaches and will focus on developing athletes technical skills. Sessions will also include preparation exercises that athletes can do at home and trial advice to help athletes approach trials with confidence. We encourage athletes to take up this opportunity and to spread the word.
