25.01.2022 In Cobargo today doing a little drop-in centre at Roly's Village Kitchen giving out food relief hampers and Community Pantry "show bags". Thank you Roly for the tea and coffee. We had a lovely chat to a number of people who dropped in. We got great feedback on the work we have been doing since the bushfires, our emergency food relief, the services from our Pantry in Bega and our Mobile Pantry service which has been servicing Quaama, Bemboka and soon Cobargo. More info about ...that later. Our Mobile Pantry is an important service linking people and sharing with community as well as helping people who are struggling to make ends meet. We have been getting requests for providing the service to Cobargo for some months now but before we could, we needed to do a few things (like get a van and helpers to provide the service). Thank you to Foodbank NSW & ACT for supplying low-cost emergency food hampers which we gave away today and also a big thank you to all our donors who provide the funding to enable us to give away the stuff that puts a smile on people's faces. The bags were donated by the Bega Valley Shire Council, frozen meals by Two Good Co. plus some "rescued" meals that fell off the back of a truck (well the truck fell over).

24.01.2022 Do you eat canned chickpeas? Do you throw out the liquid in the tin? Do you like pavlova? Here's a nifty way to use that liquid, instead of egg whites. The water, called "aquafaba" when cold whips up beautifully for meringues. (I know, because I've done it!).https://minimalistbaker.com/a-guide-to-aquafaba/

17.01.2022 It's that high chair again!! I posted earlier this week that a family who lost everything were in need of a high chair. A kind woman responded (along with two other kind people), but due to a mix-up where I thought someone else was picking it up, I have misplaced the person's name and contact details. Was it you? If so, could you please send me a message on this page? Thank you all for your patience and generosity.

It was almost impossible to vote however because their website kept crashing, but thank you to those who persisted. We didn't win, but congratulations to the winners, Backstreet Bakerhouse, Kiah General Store, and Tabletop Gaming.

05.01.2022 We don't usually put up "Wanted" ads on this page, but this is a special case. A family who lost everything in the bushfires ae in need of a highchair for their infant. Does anyone have one that is excess to their need? If so, could you please message me? Thank you all. (Picture for illustration purposes only - any safe kind would do)
04.01.2022 Wouldn't it be great to have this happen in the area?

02.01.2022 The Pantry is open tomorrow, Friday, from 11am to 2pm. 02.01.2022 The 2019/20 bush fire season devastated Australian rural, regional and remote communities. The COVID-19 pandemic then detracted attention away from the crucial recovery effort. While it's been a tough year for everyone, we know it's been especially tough for our fire-affected communities - particularly the kids.
01.01.2022 Come on in to the Community Pantry today, 2 Peden Street, Bega from 11 AM to 2 PM. Low cost groceries, fruit & veg. Supporting the community.
01.01.2022 I keep forgetting to use Instagram, or to even check it. What a dinosaur I am. But here's a pic from the August delivery by Two Good Co of delicious meals that we give out to our customers for free. Two Good Co are a Sydney-based social enterprise that supports women escaping domestic violence, offers employment and training opportunities, and are great folks. On Thursday they delivered 800 frozen meals to us, plus a heap of fresh produce they purchased on our behalf direct from the Sydney Markets. Thank you so much - what you do is appreciated by all.
