25.01.2022 PAIN WHEN BREASTFEEDING IS NOT NORMAL. Not anytime. Not even in the beginning. Let’s stop saying that breastfeeding is a little painful in the beginning, please.... . . I’m not sure if I’m the only one thinking this, but I believe the message is doing moms a disservice. . . Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. Pain is also a perception. We have no idea what someone is feeling. . . Saying that breastfeeding hurts but only just a little in the beginning is causing moms to think that what they are experiencing is normal, when in fact it could be a sign something is very wrong (hello undiagnosed tongue ties!?) . . They ignore their gut feeling and delay reaching out for help, which then often leads to sore nipples, cracked/bleeding nipples, and other challenges that make breastfeeding that much harder. . . In the beginning, your nipples are used in a new way. This means there CAN be a mild discomfort. Moms have described the physical feeling to me as: Pulling and tugging your skin, but not pinching Vacuum suction type of tickling The tickle of a cat tongue The emotional feeling is a whole other post . . Red flags that what you are feeling is NOT normal: Your toes are curling You are at all making the face You have negative anticipation of latching Get help from a lactation consultant . . If there are any of these feelings, you do NOT have to endure them. So many moms push through because of their determination and strong emotional feelings of breastfeeding. But there is almost always something that a lactation consultant can do to help! . . What did your first breastfeed feel like!? . . #breastfeedingpain #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingmom #thebreastfeedingdietitian #newmom #39weekspregnant #38weekspregnant #goldenhour #firstbreastfeed #newbaby #breastfeedingmyths #breastfeedinghelp #breastfeedingsupport See more

22.01.2022 Yes yes yes!!!!!! The power of the birth plan is about getting to know all your options and prepare for various eventualities! #Repost @bornready_physioclin...ic with @reposter.app . When you make a birth plan, don’t just plan your perfect plan. Plan what you will do if things don’t go to plan. For example. What will you use for pain relief if you are induced? What would you do if your labour is not progressing (eg-if you stall at 5cm?)? Could you change position? If so what position would help your baby descend? What would you do if second stage is lasting longer than 2 hours? Do you ask for a few more pushes? Do you consent to forceps or would you prefer a Caesar at that stage? What about a vacuume? What about an episiotomy? Know all the answers. Trust us, the more answers you have the better. See more

10.01.2022 You wouldn’t just arrive on your wedding day expecting everything to go smoothly without any planning or preparation right? I really believe that preparation is... key in achieving a positive birth experience. Sure, we can’t control exactly how our birth will go, but we can definitely put ourselves in the best position to achieve what we want. I think that the idea of ‘going with the flow’ can be really dangerous if you’re not aware of your options, or have the knowledge to advocate for yourself and your baby. Who’s ‘flow’ will you actually be going with? Yours or your doctor/hospitals? Most likely it will be the latter. There is almost always a financial investment in order to get the best support as you prepare for birth, but think about how much money we spend on our wedding day. The day that you give birth to your baby is one of, if not the biggest day in your life. Not just for us but for our babies too. Preparation is key! Don’t forget preparing for the postnatal period too as it’s just as important. For more info on how I can help you to feel prepared and confident about your journey ahead feel free to send me a message See more

04.01.2022 Oh Breastfeeding, I can barely remember a time before we met. 4 1/2 years and 2 kids later I'm feeling all the feels as I contemplate this being the last time I celebrate #worldbreastfeedingweek as a nursing mother. . #wbw #worldbreastfeedingweek2020 #support #knowledge #success #alittlelate

02.01.2022 Why are you in a funk? There are so many things that can contribute to this feeling. This is a good reminder that sometimes it could be something small that I h...ave easy(ish) control of like screen time and hydration or something much bigger. Make the small changes where you can. Get support to make the bigger changes. Then get out there and smash the patriarchy. We can only change the world if we all get out of our funks. See more
