25.01.2022 You may have noticed that we had a positive Covid case in Sappho on Sunday 20th between 11am and 12.30pm. Although our risk has been assessed as being very low, we still urge anyone who was in the cafe or bookshop between those hours, who did not fill out the Covid contact forms, to get tested. Please note that as we are in a low risk category, you will only need to self isolate until you get your test result. We were pleased that all our COVID safe measures were found to be well within the recommendations. Rest assured this will continue to be the case. The shop is not required to close beyond the days already planned. This means we will be open on: Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th. We will be closed: Thursday 31st and Friday 1st January , then open as usual from January 2nd.

19.01.2022 UPDATE from Sappho on the Covid situation: Seasons Greetings to all! We thought we would just give an update and a little more detail for those who are interested. Also to once again reassure you that we are considered by the NSW Health Department to be in a "very low risk" category. We have thrown in a photo of Charlie whose attitude appears to be one of "it's all a mystery to me!" 1. The NSW public health officer tells us that the Covid positive case, that visited Sappho... on Sunday the 20/12 between 11am and 12.30pm, hand sanitised both as they arrived and as they left. As anyone who has visited Sappho recently will know, we are the hand sanitizing "police"! We check everyone who enters and refuse entry to anyone who refuses. We have found that customers fall into 4. categories. - those who do it without being asked. - those whoare happy to do so when asked. - those with legitimate reasons to use alternatives and those who for mysterious reasons seem to abhor hand sanitizer more than there rest of us! - and those shout It’s all a conspiracy! and storm off! (our favorites!) 2. The person sat on a well distanced outdoor table. All our tables are outdoors, thus well ventilated. They are well distanced but we further increased the distance once the announcement was made on Sunday regarding the outbreak in Avalon. 3. All our staff have been wearing masks since half way through Sunday, the day the Avalon cluster was announced. 4. We have been told that the person did not have close contact with anyone other than perhaps the café staff. (What we really want to know is how someone managed to browse the book shop for 20mins and apparently leave without buying a book despite a selection of 30,000! haha!) 5. We were informed of the case at 5pm on Christmas Eve. Five of the staff got tested that day, one on Christmas day and the remaining two have been tested today. So far all results have been NEGATIVE! Thanks for reading (if you got this far!). From Charlie and all the staff at Sappho - Have a Safe and Happy New Year !
