07.01.2022 I almost didnt become a birth photographer because of fear. When I decided it was something I wanted to try and two friends took up my offer of photographing their births, I spent every spare second googling birth photography, making a board on pinterest and pinning absolutely everything and anything photography and birth related. I became obsessed with the beauty of birth. Down the rabbit hole of pinterest I found myself on a page that explained how everyone in the birth sp...ace has the ability of to affect the labouring person. By your energy, mood or body language. This could be a positive or negative affect but my anxiety appeared and the thought of negatively affecting my friends labour had me questioning if I was the right kind of person to enter a birth space. I sheepishly called my friend and gave her an exit pass, that if she had changed her mind, that that was ok. But she hadnt changed her mind, she knew the photos I could capture would mean the world to her and her family. Imagine if I had of pulled the pin, let fear and doubt take away an opportunity before I had even tried. I am eternally grateful that my friend didnt bail on me and that I pushed passed that barrier of the unknown. As they say, magic happens outside of your comfort zone.
