24.01.2022 A common misconception is that an Interior Designer spends their days fluffing cushions This always makes me laugh. A huge part of an Interior Designer’s role, which Clients don’t really get to see, is the time spent in front of a screen, planning the space. This doesn’t really translate tangiably, but it’s absolutely crucial to having a project run smoothly from the outset. Another massive component of an Interior Designer’s role is the documentation required to communicat...e the design concept to the trades. This is the part that DIY renovators will often skip, and this is where mistakes can happen. As each trade focusses on only their task, it is the Renovator’s job to make sure it all fits together, as no one else is checking this. This is where the faults in the planning and documentation stages would begin to emerge. 24.01.2022 Finishing touches at our Oatley project #boorararesidence The Client wanted a Hamptons style kitchen, which set the tone for the rest of the home. We got to use one of our favourite Hamptons colours Dulux Madigan, together with Paramount Design. Hand-painted joinery, timber corbels and ledge stone cladding complete the look for this home. 23.01.2022 Our joinery profile design for Twin Peaks house involved our favourite grey @duluxaus Lyttleton Half in 2pac and dressed up with @mademeasure leather metal slimline handles . Its simplicity is in the 15mm thin shaker profile that sits with sharp radius corners, and a 25mm door to accomodate the depth of the hinges, which had no where to hide. 23.01.2022 It seems everyone is deciding to improve their homes now that we are spending more time in them. Enquiries for renovations and alterations are a sign that people want to make their homes the best they can be. We are also needing to use our homes in different ways to what we have been previously. 12.01.2022 For this tiny bathroom space, we designed a vanity mirror and had it custom made as a solution to one that would sit with only glass behind it. It needed to suspend from the ceiling and support on the ledge below. It features beautiful 50mm radius corners and is powdercoated in @duluxaus Gunmetal Kinetic. Its also double-sided! This mirror went through six sets of hands. Firstly, our team provided the technical drawings. Then the carpenter/joiner built the template. It then ...went to the metal worker who welded the frame to size, before going off to the powder coater. The glass fabricator then mounted the glass within the frame. It was then installed by the builder. Many Clients find it hard to identify their own style, or to put what they want for their home into words, so visual communication is a handy tool, and references end up being an unwritten design language between the Client and their Interior Designer. Using our expert eye its our role to dissect these images and look for themes or pa...tterns, so that we can edit the ideas you love into one cohesive design concept for your home. Attached are the original inspiration images supplied by a client we are working with. We took a number of design cues from these, including a preference for monochromatic schemes, a love of texture and finishes, luxurious furniture, mixed metals, and rounded forms. This design has evolved on a journey but keeps looping back to these main ideas. Once wed finalised the interior concept, we took some of the features happening inside the house, and echoed them for the exterior finishes, working from the inside first so it all flowed. We were able to work from a beautifully simple blank canvas supplied by the architect. 08.01.2022 No better day to show our girls bathroom design than International Womens Day. Pink was an obvious go-to for this space and theres no regrets in our recently completed Twin Peaks project. Seriously one of the fun-est design choices weve made, and wed been busting to use the musky Inax mosaics for a while. We rearranged the original floor plans so the loo wasnt immediately in line of sight on the main wall, and we presented with a Japanese style open wet room concept that... is busy but highly functional and built to grown with the family. This area moved through a few design tweaks since the original plans, but we are so pleased with the result, and it feels happy walking into this space, as the ceilings are high, and the area is open plan. Featuring a spotted gum battoned entrance door- 2500 high, a breezeway brick feature, and palladiana terrazzo flooring. We used exposed rafters to highlight the raked ceiling, and Dulux Waitangi on the walls for warmth. 06.01.2022 Our recently completed modern kitchen design at Twin Peaks House features dolomite marble, 2-Pac doors and gunmetal metallic trims. Although function is always priority, the inclusion of textural elements via fluted panelling and leather handles, pushed the aethetics of this kitchen out of the functional zone, and into a space where it feels really nice to just cook and hang out. 01.01.2022 Recently a very good friend from high school, who runs her own kickass coaching company @beautifuldisruptions was having a chat to me about personal branding and how important it was for people to understand who was behind the work we do. She was encouraging me to get some pictures taken, and I was like arrrrggghhh- photos of myself !?!? but all my pics are of my kids and they just make me look/ feel older than what I am! Anyway, we bit the bullet and did it- much more shy these days than in my 20s, but its a start.
