01.01.2022 People often ask me why should I book with a travel agent? Well over the weekend yet another OTA (online travel agent), in Australia, fly365.com.au has announce...d receivership. The numbers are still yet to be determined but this was one of Skyscanners largest partners. The challenge with Skyscanner it is just acts as a search engine which connects you to partners who pay them to do so but they have no obligation to take responsibility on who they direct you to. If you have booked through fly365 your bookings are likely to be unticketed (meaning you do not have a confirmed booking with the airline) and in short don’t hold your breathe in trying to get your money back I can not stress this enough, after buying a home, travel is the next biggest spend (over a lifetime) for Australians. So it really baffles me when people are willing to give their hard earned money to companies they have never heard off (let alone know how to contact) for the sake of saving $20-50. Why are they cheaper you ask? Well OTA’s buy market share by offering fares below the cost given to them, in the hope you come straight back to them next time, only you don’t. You continue to use Skyscanner and thus there is a price war on these sites which ultimately ends up costing them their business and you, your travel plans and money. If your travel provider is offering fares cheaper then the airline direct you really have to ask why?
