22.01.2022 PAIN + SENSATION An insightful video by Anatomy Trains Thomas Myers on pain and sensation, why some myofascial techniques can hurt and the difference between 3 types of pain and how they exist in the body. You cant extend yourself beyond your current capabilities without going into the unknown, and very often, the sensations you get in the unknown are going to get reported to you as pain. Thomas Myers. ... In the video, Tom defines pain as sensation accompanied by the motor intention to withdraw. A sensation is defined as a physical feeling or perception that results from something that happens within the body or comes into contact with the body. Is your perception and experience of your physical feeling a pain or a sensation? Being reminded that there is a difference can prompt us to take a deeper look at how we may interpret some of our physical feelings and gradually, over time, start to feel more comfortable with what Tom refers to as the unknown within our body. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XG1A-Ct69ug
21.01.2022 The Psycho-Emotional Energy of the Knees The knees are an area of our body that hold our solar plexus energy. The energy of our knees relates to our sense of identity, personal power, confidence, movement forward in life, and our feeling of the need for our self-protection. Our knees play a significant role in our ability to stand up in life, to stand up for ourselves and to stand our ground. Over the course of our life and with our occupations and activities, they absorb... a fair amount of pressure between the impact of the ground below and our body weight above - this weight above may not be purely physical but can relate to a psycho-emotional weight that is also a heavy load to carry, especially over an extended period of time. I have worked with clients who have presented with knee pain who also have habitually locked knees. They usually recognise a holding back on their own action based around fear, or feeling the need to 'hold their ground' in an overly rigid way as well as not trusting and allowing the flow of life to happen. This rigidity not only causes excess tension of the knees, but commonly causes a strain in the lower back and an overuse of other areas of the legs to balance the body weight to compensate. Releasing the muscles and fascia as well as allowing a slight bend to the knees to release the locking will begin to bring about greater alignment, more stability of the body and mind, and an ease to the body's balance and posture. "The knees allow you to bend, to concede, to give, and to especially give way, to be humble. In kneeling you relinquish the ego and embrace humility; without this you become stubborn, proud, inflexible and self-righteous. But when the knees give way too quickly, knocking and trembling with fear, then you need to rise up and claim your place in the world, developing greater self-esteem and confidence". - Deb Shapiro, "Your Body Speaks Your Mind" p. 132.
20.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Due to the current world events and government restrictions in place, I have temporarily closed my bodywork practice. Unfortunately, social distancing and bodywork do not mix!... Thank you to my clients for your understanding - but no bodywork doesnt mean that I am not available! Before I can be hands on again (pun intended), I am opening up availability for complimentary 30 minute conversations for those who would like to connect and share an area of distress, and we can talk about ways to focus, balance and find direction for you to take the action that reflects your own self-alignment through your body. We all have natural strengths, some are realised and some are unrealised. Sometimes it takes the experience of a significant event or events to awaken those capabilities we previously could not see as being a part of us If you know of someone who may be interested in this form of support, I am here! Im looking forward to connecting with you more over the coming weeks and months! Take good care, Sarah.

19.01.2022 Many people can live their life not truly appreciating their natural skills and gifts and are reluctant to own and appreciate the value that they hold for themselves as well as others. How lovely to realise or be reminded and reassured of (or possibly even seen for the first time) ones possession of these strengths and gifts as seen through the face and physical body within the structure, tissue, proportions, and combination of features that are unique to the individual. Whe...n challenges become overwhelming, our strengths are there to support the parts that are in need of extra care in that moment, and when our internal resources feel down and out, our external support can be there to hold, encourage and guide us until we can be there for ourselves in that way again - all the more expanded. This is one of the beautiful offerings of Psychosomatic Therapy. 16.01.2022 HOLDING ON TO THE STABILITY OF LIFE As we are currently experiencing change in many forms and in many areas of our life, our feelings of stability in our stance through our feet and through our legs can also change. An area of our body that we can overlook held tension in (unless it is painful), are our toes and our feet.... A clinging or clutching of our toes and feet (with or without pain) reflects a fear of losing our sense of stability and also indicates a holding back in movement and expression. Self-massaging the toes and the muscles and tissue underneath the foot can be helpful and encourage the straightening and spread of the toes. You can use a tennis ball or similar to stand on/gently roll underneath your foot to assist in releasing the muscles and tissue. Underneath the foot can be quite a tender (but freeing) area to work! With awareness and a consistent practice releasing the tension from the toes and feet, a more relaxed experience of contact with the ground, stability and movement is allowed. PS: Dont forget to relax your knees!
13.01.2022 A person who doesn’t breathe deeply reduces the life of his/her body. If one doesn’t move freely, the life of the body is restricted. If one doesn’t feel fully, it narrows the life of one’s body.... And if self expression is constricted, the life of the body is limited. - Alexander Lowen Bioenergetic Analysis

06.01.2022 Psychosomatic Face Splits | The Comparison of Masculine Energy + Feminine Energy We, as human beings, have a combination of both masculine and feminine energy. The representation of these energies can be seen within our face and our body. Our right side represents and expresses the masculine - our action, our doing and how we present to the external world. It is shaped by our masculine influences in life, our analytical and more rigid and structured left brain processes a...nd expression. The left side of the body, the feminine, represents our receptive and intuitive nature, our internal and private world. It reflects our feminine influences, our creativity, and our more gentle, flexible and artistic side - our right brain expression. It is healthy to aim for an overall balanced expression from both sides. How would the right and left sides of your face and body compare? Would one be more overly dominant than the other? Do you experience more injuries/pain on one side of your body than the other? Are there notable differences between your left and right side that you would like to understand at a deeper level? Having a face split and analysis (showing a mirrored right side and a mirrored left side to produce two faces) compared with the original photograph is a simple and insightful way to show how your masculine and feminine energies have shaped your physicality, which serves as a powerful activity for self reflection, awareness and self care The first time I experienced a psychosomatic face split, I was moved by the differences between my right and left side. At the time, they were two very different people living within the one body and their expression was clearly out of balance. Seeing how they were represented in my face and body, and comparing the images to how they showed up (or werent showing up) for me in my life was profound; guiding me to make some changes to move towards finding greater balance. https://www.seabodymind.com.au/face-splits Contact me if youre interested to find out more! #seabodymind #seapsychosomatics #masculineandfeminine #balance #bodywork #psychosomatics #facesplit #facereading #cronulla #energy

04.01.2022 Merry Christmas! Thank you greatly for your support over the few months that S.E.A. has been operating. Its a pleasure for me to connect and share with others who are interested in the psychosomatic communication of how our posture and physical body can respond to our perceptions, beliefs and life experiences. To have the opportunity to facilitate an improvement in someones ability to interact with life after being compromised through feelings of restriction or pain is w...hy I do what I do. Thank you again for your support! Wishing you a safe, loving, fulfilled and inspired Christmas and New Year. Sarah.

01.01.2022 OUR BASE | OUR FOUNDATION How safe and secure do you feel in your environment and in your body? Do you feel a healthy sense of support for yourself, and from others?... Our base energy relates to our feelings of safety, security, stability and being well grounded. It is to do with our basic and instinctive self-preservation and survival needs, nourishment of food and water, support, shelter, feelings of belonging and our sense of family and community. In the body, this energy is primarily represented in the : grounding of the feet, calves, outer thighs buttocks, base of the spine, chin and jaw. The individual and combined presentation of these areas reveals detail about a persons habitual and present life experience in relation to their perception and beliefs around safety, support, security and survival, as well as their physical potential and robustness. For more information and for some physical ways to work with your base energy, visit www.seabodymind.com.au/sea-base-energy
01.01.2022 EMOTIONAL ANATOMY A great article for those interested in Emotional Anatomy.. Its one of my favourite books! ... The emotional organisation (of the body structure) demonstrates how morphology expresses personal experiences and conflicts, how layers and inner tubes are affected, where conflictual contraction occurs, how motility is distorted, what happens to excitation and its currents, and what is the emotional result. - Stanley Keleman, Emotional Anatomy : The Structure of Experience. https://www.brainpickings.org//emotional-anatomy-stanley-/
