16.01.2022 Have you ever heard of 'maths anxiety'? Perhaps you're hearing that term for the first time but you've already decided that it describes your every interaction with maths! Many people have had negative experiences with learning maths and it is not uncommon to hear people of ALL ages saying things like 'I was never good at maths in school' or 'I just suck at maths'. Some parents are probably reliving their own nightmarish experiences as they try to teach their own children m...aths at home now! When it comes to tutoring, I usually begin by addressing maths anxiety. You would be surprised at how many students believe they are behind in their learning because of their own inability to just 'get it'. They feel stupid in class because everyone else seems to understand and to ask for help would be embarrassing. They try to get by pretending and the gap continues to grow. Too often this ends in people becoming bitter at either the subject or themselves and the easiest way to handle that is to walk away thinking 'maths just isn't for me' or 'I'm more of a creative person'. Would you believe that I would consider myself a creative person? In fact, maths to me feels like a never-ending 'connect the dots' and I find it poetic that there are so many ways to find one solution. Sometimes I have to get a little creative to teach a concept to a student in a way that they will understand! If you have maths anxiety, don't pass it on to your children. If you're hearing negative language towards maths, dig a little deeper to see if it has more to do with a lack of belief in their ability to learn it. If you are finding your distaste for maths is affecting your everyday life and work, it's not too late for you either! 03.01.2022 Hello there! My Name is Sarah Mandica (Hutcheon) and I’ve been in the tutoring business basically since I finished schooling myself! I have always had a passion for teaching and recently completed a Bachelor of Education at Mildura La Trobe University. I quickly realised through all of my experience that I have a preference and strength for one-on-one support for students. ... In a time of uncertainty for many regarding education, I’ve created this service to provide affordable and flexible support for students/learners of all ages! This will be exclusively online (for now!) using Zoom as a platform To extend the amount of people who can be helped through this, I’ve got some friends and colleagues on board too who are capable tutors and have different specialties than me! I want to make sure those who need support will have the best help possible! For example my strength is maths for all grades For this reason, I am doing free consultations to meet you and/or your child to see if I will be able to help you, or if I have a connection to someone who can! I will have a few post about themselves as they come on board. We can help with a specific subject, topic or give general assistance with assigned school work. There are options for on-going tutoring or short-term help (a concept you can’t grasp for an upcoming exam?) Whatever it is you’re looking for, get in touch to see if we can help! Message or Book a consultation now!
