She has a special spot in my heart and her husband-to-be has managed to wrangle a spot right next to hers. #connectionforlife #beautifulcouple #cantwait

23.01.2022 Statistics from Prepare/Enrich Parental Divorce and Relationship Skills: Does Parental Divorce Hinder Marrying Couples? Are premarital individuals who have experienced parental divorce likely to be poorer communicators than those whose parents have not divorced? Sometimes it is assumed that this is the case. However recent research suggests that this might be just a stereotypical myth.... A study by Chris Segrin and Melissa Taylor in 2006 examined the association between experience of parental divorce and relational communication skills in a sample of 111 premarital couples. Couples participated in a laboratory problem-solving interaction from which communication skills were assessed. The results indicated no consistent associations between parental divorce and either lower communication skills or lack of confidence in their own or their partners capacity to relate well. In fact, there was some evidence that those who had experienced parental divorce had some advantages in that they were able to more accurately judge their partners ability to relate effectively. 05.01.2022 Statistics from Prepare/Enrich Balancing Job and Family: Common problems in the early years of marriage Balancing job and family issues has been identified as one of the top three problem and adjustment issues for couples married for five years or less. And for those working non-day shifts, the risk factors for depressive symptoms and relationship conflict are exacerbated.... A study in the USA surveyed almost 1,000 couples who had been married five years or less (Risch G et al, 2003) and identified the top three problem and adjustment issues as: - balancing job and family - frequency of sexual relations - financial issues A 2007 study in the USA examined how the work hours, work schedules, and role overload of working - class couples might be related to the occurrence of depressive symptoms and relationship conflict as couples move into becoming parents. The study interviewed 132 dual-earner couples 5 times across the transition to parenthood. The statistical analyses revealed that: - working evening or night shifts, as opposed to day shifts, was related to higher levels of depressive symptoms - for mothers only, working rotating shifts predicted relationship conflict - increases in role overload were related to the emergence of both depression and conflict - but working a non-day shift explained variance in depression and conflict above and beyond the mere effect of role overload. These results suggest that for new couples, balancing job and family can be challenging and a focus on Leisure Activities, Couple Closeness and Couple Flexibility are likely to identify issues and provide rich points for discussion. Layered with couples working non-day shifts and the risk factors for depressive symptoms and relationship conflict, this information can be useful, particularly for those intending to have children. #prepareenrich Source: Perry-Jenkins, M., Goldberg, A., Pierce, C., Sayer A.
