18.01.2022 In the lead up to the release of 'Prophecy' this Friday, I wanted to take a moment to focus on the cover image for the album, which is by the wonderful Australi...an artist Gemma Smith. Gemma and I first met back in high school, and I have long been an admirer of her work, so I was extremely grateful when she and Sarah Cottier Gallery (who represent her) allowed me to use her 2018 painting 'Goldens' on the cover. You may also have seen her prominent mural as you enter the new wing of Sydney's Museum Of Contemporary Art. As it turns out, there's a lovely synchronicity in the way Gemma and I think about our creative process. Perhaps that's what immediately drew me to approaching her for this album. I suspect she thinks about layering, colour and intuitively letting the work speak in a similar way that I do with sound and performance. In response to the painting, I also named the opening track on the album 'Goldens'. Prophecy is released this Friday 24th July on @theleaflabel and is available, amongst other formats, on limited edition yellow LP, which i think is the best format to admire Gemma's stunning contribution to the album: https://ffm.to/prophecy.ofp
