You can stop drifting through life waiting for things to happen and learn how to take concrete steps to being your most AUTHENTIC SELF. ... Investing in you will require time, energy, focus, and willingness to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. It doesn't need to cost you much money though - there are many ways to invest in and to develop yourself which are free. 18.01.2022 I guess you have paid attention to this post because you have felt like a fraud at one stage or another? It's okay - you are not alone with this one! We are in the company of people whom are often pedestalled in society due to their celebrity status - think the likes of Eminem, Beyonce, Michelle Obama who have all spoken publically about their experience of this throughout their successful careers. ... Imposter Syndrome is not an official, diagnosable psychological disorder, however it is an experience that warrants support to work through and overcome. It creates a constant feeling of inadequacy, that persists despite evidence of success and capabilities. Imposter Syndrome is where the perfectionistic voice inside of your head starts telling you that you are an Imposter, soon to be discovered as a "Con Artist" by those who interact with you, whether that be in your work role, playing sport, as a performer, etc. It tends to get triggered around transitional periods, for example starting a new job, getting a promotion at work, or like my own personal experience, after completing university and embarking on a career in that new field of work. To tame the Imposter Syndrome Experience: Name the experience - "Ah, here comes that voice that tells me that I'm an Imposter". Note that your thoughts are just thoughts and are often not based on facts. Go easy on yourself and acknowledge that you are going through a period of growth, where it is totally normal to feel uncertain and unsure of yourself. Remember that no human is able to be perfect. It is an illusion and does not exist! Recognise that you have most likely set your "Standards Bar" too high for yourself, so high that you are not acknowledging where you are doing well. Develop a new script and work on your Core Beliefs. More often than not, the Imposter Syndrome Story, stems from Core Beliefs of "I'm Not Good Enough". There is nothing you need to do or be, nothing you need to purchase or attain to be deemed as valuable and worthwhile.... Think back to when you were a baby. Were you enough then? Of course you were! You were you, a unique expression of life, an irreplaceable ONE-OF-A-KIND, the likes of which no one will ever see again when you are gone. It begs the question - when did we start buying into the belief and associated thoughts that we are somehow not enough??? You will never feel enough if you base your worth on the "stuff" you do or don't have. Basing your worth entirely on extrinsic things (things outside of you) can be cause for shaky ground. I do the work that I do, because I want people to step out of the constant comparison and into the realisation of their one-of-a-kind amazingness! If you are on the path toward knowing You ARE enough, I urge you to press on! If you're currently sitting with thoughts of "not enoughness" I invite you to let those thoughts go and pass you by, reconnecting back your truth. Imagine how your life can be different from this moment forward with the Core Belief- YOU ARE ENOUGH. You have everything you need within you to become who you want to be and live the life you want to live. Of course we all have traits we want to work on and develop - this is part of the ongoing evolution of being human. You may be on the path of being more purposeful, more intentional, more free. These all stem from a place of already enough though. The Enough You Are, is enough now, was enough before, and will be enough with each day you become who you are meant to be. 10.01.2022 There's no perfect day in the future to start your dream life. TODAY is the perfect day! It doesn't matter where you start, the main thing is just STARTING SOMEWHERE. ... Think about this for a moment - imagine if you put aside an hour of self-reflection aside each day. By the end of the week you have spent a full working day on CREATING YOUR BEST LIFE. Imagine the momentum you will have built by the end of the year if you kept up this practice each week?! An hour a day obviously isn't going to be for everyone, but it's still worth thinking about what you are spending your time on each day and how much value each of those activities is adding to your life. I read somewhere the other day that people check their phones 150 times per day! Even just 30 seconds each check, that adds up to more than an a hour day! Working as a psychologist for over 15 years now, I witness that it is the small tweaks to habits and routine that make the biggest difference over the long term for my clients. A good exercise to start off with is to record everything you spend your time doing over a week. Often people are very surprised where they can make better use of their time. Consider where you might be wise to schedule in "Life Design Time". This can help you to feel more like you are in the Drivers Seat of your life rather than as a passenger at the whim of everyone else's. You will start to really amplify your awareness around what you do and don't want for yourself in this precious thing called life. There is a lot of power in putting pen to paper to record what you want and your personal goals. Research shows that people who write down their personal dreams and goals on a regular basis are 40% more likely to achieve them. If you share your dreams and goals with someone else, this further increases your likelihood of making them come to fruition. Interestingly, once you have started to put pen to paper, consciously and subconsciously, you will start taking action to make these manifest and come true for you. How cool is that? Shift your attention away from the doom and gloom in the news, the things that negative nellies have to say, the circumstances in your life that you don't want - Instead start to invest in using your IMAGINATION and think about everything you DO WANT to experience and feel. Most people move through life, never really taking the time to reflect and open up to what they strongly desire and deserve in their life. I want more than that for you! I want you to develop a list of multiple things that will light you up and help you to feel like you are living a life of PASSION, PURPOSE and FULFILLMENT. Begin with the END IN MIND. This is a key habit of highly effective and successful people. They revisit and review this regularly. All things are created TWICE - firstly in your imagination, and then in REALITY.
