Walking down the aisles of the supermarket, youre bombarded with a collection of labels like 99% fat free as if fat was a bad thing. There still seems to be a some-what obsession with low fat diets and grocery items because of this perception its better for you. ... But thats just not the case... eating fat does not make you fat, over consumption of refined carbohydrates and sugars do! And more often than not if a product is labelled as fat free, chances are sugars have been added to make it taste better! In fact, fats within the body provide us with energy, support our immune system, increases the absorption of certain nutrients and contributes to healthy hormone balance among other things. But of course not all fats are created equally. UNHEALTHY FATS TO AVOID - Vegetable oils - Deep fried foods - Store bought baked goods such as cakes, biscuits and pies - Margarines These fats offer us no health benefit at all and promote inflammation, increase LDL (bad) cholesterol and thus increases our risk of heart disease and diabetes.
