25.01.2022 2020 Births This year I had the pleasure to document the beautiful births of 6 babies - 3 girls and 3 boys. * Rori... * Darcie * Elliot * Andre * Ella * Ethan Unfortunately due to covid and restrictions I was not able to document two other births, however we have been very lucky here in Western Australia and it didn't impact us as much as other states and countries around the world. This year I also entered a few online photography competitions with my birth photography work and was award a few Bronze Awards in the Rise International Photography competition, Finalist in the Shoot & Share Competition, Bronze and Silver awards in the Birth International Image Competition and was also named a finalist. 07.01.2022 World Breastfeeding week has just come to an end, but I wanted to share this breastfeeding story from one of my birth clients with her permission. Photo from her little ones birth, which was also the first birth I was honored enough to be asked to document ~ "World Breastfeeding Week 2020 ~ a topic that is still difficult for me at times. Something that is so natural, what a womans body is designed for, is not always easy. Tongue and lip ties, nipple shields, expressing..., buckets of tears. I tried for months and in the end, the fear of failing was too much to bear. So I just continue to express as I had done, and continued to for a year. Ava only ever had my breastmilk for 16 months. Chest freezer full of EBM. I also donated to 6 other babies. Formula never entered my mind. Not because its not a viable option in some circumstances, but because I made an informed decision about what was best for me and my child. These days, with lacking support for breastfeeding women, societal judgment for feeding in public, family pressure from decades old advice, health professionals including GPs having limited/no training in breastfeeding and giving very poor advice to breastfeeding mothers, not to mention these days, mothers/women are busier than ever, working, older children, limited family support network, poor mental health, the village can often be a thing of the past. It needs to change. Its a world health issue. In the end, whatever a womans choice is, being informed and supported is so important.
