06.01.2022 Haven’t done a Friday wrap up for a while and I figure after my news last week (has it been 2 weeks already?!!!) now would be a good time to do another one. If you weren’t around last Monday, you would’ve missed it. I decided to go out on my own and part with my Australian voice agent. No hard feelings, lots of love and respect, it just felt like the right move for my constantly evolving career in this ever changing industry. Well. I sure did choose the right time. Last week... was (sorry, I know we all hate this word but it FITS, damnit) UNPRECEDENTED to say the least. The best week I’ve had in a long time, not just in terms of actual work booked but also general happiness and job satisfaction. This week has been a smidge quieter and I’m very grateful to have been able to find the time to catch up on invoicing and admin yesterday. Breathing space is important. Balance is important. I’ve got an audiobook staring at me and I really really want to get back onto my branding train. Most importantly, I’m HAPPY. Anyway this post is meant to inspire people who see having an agent as some sort of ‘golden ticket’ to the other side of the fence. It’s not. 05.01.2022 Yesterday I had a live directed session for Caeserstone using the Source-Connect NOW platform to connect with LOTS of other people down in Sydney, all in different places. All who had never used Source-Connect before and had only ever attended in person studio sessions. Using Chrome browsers, everyone clicked on the link I sent them to join my session, the audio quality was perfect and we were all wrapped up in less than 30 minutes. I dropped markers when the director asked m...e to so I knew which takes to keep and send through to the editor after the session. It was quick and easy and all done and dusted without anyone having to leave their place of work. So much time saved. When everyone knows what they’re doing, there really isn’t a need for us all to come together in the same room for a voiceover session anymore. While I have a paid license for Source-Connect Standard, I can only use it when connecting to other Source-Connect studios. 01.01.2022 This was my face earlier this week after a new client accepted my quote straight off the bat. FREELANCER TIP - When marketing your biz to potential clients, avoid using words like affordable, competitive, budget friendly or flexible. By all means, offer flexibility in other areas of your business such as with availability & deadlines, but if you present yourself as having flexible rates, what you’re really telling people is that you don’t really see the value in your work.... I have noticed that the more business-like my communication, the more professionally I am treated. And when it comes to quoting new clients, the less I mince my words, the less they hesitate to accept.
